Kuniaki Hiraki in Tokyo Japan 05/14/11 The latest Tokyo Disneyland Resort pressed penny holders were added to our Tokyo Disneyland pressed penny books and holders page. 05/12/11 All ParkPennies.com Tokyo Disneyland Resort pressed penny guides as well as the Tokyo Disneyland Resort Coins of the Month page have been updated and are complete as of today. An addition of 27 more coins covering approximately the last month or so have been added. The guides also include five recent coins that, because of the devastating earthquake in Japan, were available for about two weeks and one coin from Tokyo DisneySea that was available for only three days. As readers may know, Disney VoluntEARS has placed a special penny press back stage for Cast Members to help Red Cross fund relief efforts via the sale of Japan Earthquake & Pacific Tsunami Relief Fund pressed pennies. Rumors suggest that this machine may be made available for contributions by Disneyland guests or possibly the public. However, details are not certain yet. 03/18/11The Tokyo Disneyland Pressed Penny Medals Guides are now all up to date as of today. 03/12/11 We have received some good news from fellow collectors in Japan. So far all have said they and their families are safe, structures have had only minor damages. Transportation and power are issues. Kuniaki mentioned that: Tokyo Disneyland Resort will be closed until March 21.
The ground rises or sinks in many places as a result of liquefaction around the Disneyland Resort and the neighborhood transportation station.
TDR parking is in a particularly terrible state. Our thoughts and prayers are with all that have suffered from this terrible series of earthquakes. 03/06/11Edited 03/10/11 As longtime readers will remember, our Tokyo Disneyland news page is updated as news is received. 10/26/10 Coins of the Month for October have been added to the 2010 Tokyo Disneyland guide.
10/18/10 (Update: added latest two Tokyo Disneyland penny books ) These books have been really popular, even with the current Tokyo Books now selling in Japan for 1290 Yen and 1590 Yen. (About $15.92 and $19.62 each!) Collectors in the United States will most likely need to add postage and a monetary token of their appreciation to the price for the kind sole who paid for transportation and admission to Tokyo Disneyland, and then purchased and shipped the books all on his own time... Price aside, they are excellent quality books often with astonishing graphics, a must for Tokyo Disneyland collectors in my opinion.
The great news for collectors in the United States is that most of all our current penny books are under $10.00, sometimes way under $10.00. Matter of fact, there are several types at Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Also an excellent selection of non-Disney Penny Collector Books, many with exclusive elongated coins in their covers, offered by our good friends, PennyCollector.com and at their many penny press machine locations. Do take a look, they might be a fun addition to your pressed penny collections.

Now that the new issues are in 100s per year, the extensive coverage of all coins we have offered since 1996, isn't practical any longer. I wish they would have offered MYSQL or PHP when I went to school instead of FORTRAN, COBAL, or how to make vinyl records! But, sadly no. He has in the best sprit of the hobby, generously shared his excellent knowledge, pictures, and news about Disney pressed souvenirs in Japan with us. Kuniaki also developed an excellent web site of both Tokyo Disneyland Resort and Disney Store Japan coins which I have mentioned often in this forum.
Of special interest to ParkPennies.com readers, because of recent Google translation software changes, I have been able to fumble together a simple, very effective link to an English translation of Kuniaki's excellent web site. With this link, at last, English speaking ParkPennies.com visitors can get the latest information directly from Kuniaki Japanese language web site, in Japan. I urge ParkPennies.com visitors to visit Kuniaki's excellent web site to get the latest pictures and locations of newest Disney "pressed pennies" in Japan.
It has been fun, but, also a very daunting challenge for this non-Japanese speaking penny collector in the USA to keep the Tokyo Disneyland Guides up to date over the past 15 years. Our guides were possible only via the help of fellow collectors, tons of research, and especially the help of a very good friend in Tokyo who has pressed TDR coins for us for nearly 15 years now. The resulting cataloging of prototypes, off-planchet metals, books, holders, etc. distant by thousands of miles, was sometimes stressful and challenging, but, always fun and rewarding. Over the next years, we look forward to concentrating on the fun stuff. We'll be refining and improving our references covering the first 15 years of Tokyo Disneyland "pressed pennies". We will also be adding more in depth details, stories, and related information we have gathered over the past 15+ years. We hear from the our friends in Japan that there will be six more new coins just at the Hotel MiraCosta. Scans and guide updates will follow. 11/04/08 Our thanks to Mr. C. Neal, the well known Disney elongated coin collector, for reporting his discovery of three Tokyo Disneyland Resort Rainforest Cafe medals! The Tokyo Disneyland style souvenir medallions or "pressed pennies" were vended from a three play machine found at the RFC in the Tokyo Disneyland Resort Ikspiari Complex. Images, numbers and descriptions have been added to the Tokyo Disneyland Resort guide. I know, you are thinking "Why Japanese? You haven't even gotten the English right yet!". I'm thinking the same thing! 10/14/08 Coins of the Month and all other coins to date, have been added to the Tokyo Guides. Nice engraving!
10/04/08 Lots of updates and adds to the Tokyo Disneyland Guides lately. Most recently, four new coins were added to the Tokyo Disneyland "Pressed Penny" Guide and the Tokyo DisneySEA "Pressed Penny" Guide. 10/02/08 Japanese collectors are reporting that the recently placed October coins of the month are rolling short and a bit off-center. However, the machines were greeted as usual by LOTS of Japanese collectors. The Coins of the Month series seems to gain in popularity each year. You can see how each penny press machine offering Tokyo Disneyland "Pressed Pennies" of the month and Tokyo DisneySEA "Pressed Pennies" of the month has an individual style of coin each year, making a series of yearly collection sets. We lament that Disney parks in the USA do not offer a coin of the month yet, but, we have not given up hope. 10/02/08 New Mickey Mouse pressed penny holders! And no, I don't know why it seems Tokyo Disneyland has better quality engraving every year. If I didn't see it with my own eyes, I wouldn't believe it. Especially when WDW and Disneyland Anaheim seem to be going the other direction. Emails to ParkPennies.com suggest that Tokyo Disney found a new company to engrave their penny press dies. What ever they did, it seems to be working. 05/07/08 Still a few typos, but, we have uploaded the Tokyo Disneyland 25th Anniversary Collection Guide and updated the Tokyo Disneyland Coins of the Month. Several other Tokyo Disneyland guide pages have also been updated. However, we are already behind! Three more coins of the month were issued on 5/1/08! 05/05/08 Lots of " Free pressed pennies" were sent out today. So, if you sent in your SASE this last week, the wait is almost over. It was great to see several requests from fellow members of The Elongated Collectors included. If you are reading this page, you should really look into becoming a member of TEC if you aren't already!
Also, recently three new coins of the month were issued at Tokyo Disneyland. We are swamped, but, should have a major Tokyo Disneyland Guide Update soon. 05/01/08 Hard to believe we've been at www.ParkPennies.com for four years already! Some longtime readers will remember the very small personal web site we started a few years earlier too. However, by far, the most exciting changes over the past six or seven years (at least for us) is that you have visited and shared this reference site with your friends and fellow Disneyana fans.

From Boomer and the folks at ParkPennies. 04/26/08 No reports of new Tokyo Disneyland coins for five days in a row! I wonder what the heck happened? Looks like all of the 25th Anniversary coins might be on stage now. The coins featuring the "25th" logo have settled at 39 so far. Many collectors have noticed that the anniversary set, Tokyo Disneyland Coins of the month, and all other TDR coins recently issued have been pressed on copper planchets. I have not seen a nickel colored coin from Tokyo Disneyland for some time now.
Both sets make for excellent collections. Maybe the coin of the month series will catch on in the US as the anniversary sets have in Japan? We expect the latest coins to arrive shortly. Once scanned, we will add them to the guides. This month's TDR updates will total more than 50 coins! 04/21/08 Yep. Another penny at Tokyo Disneyland! Most of these new issues appear to be part of a Tokyo Disneyland 25th Anniversary set. They remind me of the Disneyland 50th Anniversary Magical Milestones set or maybe the 25th Anniversary set offered at Walt Disney World. Could be a very neat set. The engraving and artwork seem to be very nice. We hope to have images for you soon. 4/12/08 A good friend tells us that there are as of today, about 36 more new coins at Tokyo Disneyland! We hope to have pictures of them soon.
Some readers have mentioned that these coins have been hard to find. Tell me about it! Limited order sizes, shipping, postage, and availability have made these coins a formidable challenge recently.

We are very thankful for these reports from Kuniaki Hiraki in Japan. The Tokyo Disneyland pressed pennies or medals have become increasingly difficult to acquire, especially for collectors in the United States. As you may have noticed, the longtime suppliers that offered the coins on eBay and via subscription lists are not offering the coins as regularly as in past years. The costs of purchase, currency devaluation, shipping and related risks have made it difficult for dealers to resell the coins at a price comparable to past offerings.
Even though availability and costs of acquisition are challenging, we are still acquiring these coins for display in the ParkPennies.com guides knowing that coins that are hard to acquire often become the keys to a collection over time. 03/02/08 Our thanks to Kuniaki in Japan for this excellent report and pictures!

12/21/07 Wow 'tis the Season to be busy! A Merry Christmas or Happy Holiday to you all. We know many of you are out there getting last minute gifts or goodies, maybe some of you are even getting ready for New Years!
We've found a little time lately to update the Tokyo Disneyland Guides with the latest coins for the ever growing number of TDL collectors and added a search feature for everyone. It's not a really cool search like we hope to have later, but, it helps and trust me, for us it was a real surprise when it worked! Like a fellow collector said while I was "perfecting" it: "A small step for a kid, a giant leap for Boomer!" Last week, we mentioned we'd have a small 'thank you' this Season in appreciation of your visits and links to ParkPennies.com... Well, two very generous, longtime friends of ours and the hobby presented ParkPennies.com with the gift of the wonderful die that made the coin pictured above. After an unnecessarily long period of contemplation, an epiphany of both imagination and penny-pinching thrift occurred to Boomer. He thought (drum roll) why not make a gift a ParkPennies pressed penny to our ParkPennies.com friends!? (Yep! Nothing gets past Boomer! ) He reasons that with the die he could personally make a ParkPennies.com pressed penny as a gift for you. Cuz he cares, has a terrific new penny die to share, and loves to press pennies. (We also need to keep him busy and out of trouble.)
So, although we can't up a specific time, if you happen to spot one of us at the park, we'll have a coin for you. If you are out of the area, we missed you at Disneyland, or if too many gray-haired guys wearing Hawaiian-style shirts and khaki colored pants have sworn to you they weren't Boomer and ran away screaming... Be sure to include your choice of either a bright uncirculated shiny copper cent or a darker patina circulated copper cent. No strings attached. 06/19/07 We are updating the Tokyo Disneyland Guides. Most recently, the Tokyo Disneyland Resort coins of the month series. This is one "high concept" collection! Every coin has the name of the park, Disneyland or DisneySea, and is dated. Originally, TDR had just one coin of the month machine. Now, there are two in Tokyo Disneyland Park and another one in Tokyo DisneySea. For more than two years now, each coin has been on-stage for only that one month, giving it's spot in the park up to the next coin on the first day of the next month. 02/28/07 Lou S. recently reported "Type II" variations of the Tokyo Disneyland TDS0511 and TDS0513. We are hope to add the Type II variations of these coins to the TDL guide soon.
We believe collectors of Tokyo Disneyland coins should be on the lookout for slight die variations. As evidenced by recent reports, lately, an increasing number of dies have been replaced with similar dies often early in their service cycle.
