CM0026 Retired 2008 FACILLITES & OPERATIONS CAST APPRECIATION BAR-B-QUE elongated token image. FACILLITES & OPERATIONS SERVICES © DISNEY, Mickey cogwheel or gear logo, small dot border, "e" for Eurolink Design Corporation replaces the dot nearest the center of the gripper slot. (The CM0026, CM0027, CM0028, CM0035, and CM0048 share the same obverse die which features an "e" at the gripper. (The DN0072 is very similar in design, but features a partial "D" at the gripper.) Each has a different stampback.) Reverse: 2008 DISNEYLAND ® RESORT, FACILLITES & OPERATIONS SERVICES, CAST APPRECIATION BAR-B-QUE. Available 5/15/08. Reports by trusted sources to Robert Hoff, state that 300 unpressed "No Cash Value" arcade tokens were distributed to about 150 attendees with the option to press the tokens in the available machine at the 5/15/08 Cast Member appreciation Bar-B-Que. The die, cut by Eurolink, misses the fine detail of hand engraved dies which makes identification of the small type face and copyright difficult. Die life planned over more than a single year, to be used with new reverse each year. This is the first formal use of a "token press" at the Disneyland Resort. The token provides a heavy, quality souvenir in a world of zinc, possibly soon to be copper-plated steel pennies, a welcome innovation in this collector's opinion. Only one coin was offered by this machine. Reverse: Large Type I (~1.5") Mickey Mouse classic pose, Disney VoluntEARS , DISNEY -small ABC logo- ESPN. The machine was originally located backstage near the Team Center (Harbor Point), Disneyland on 3/17/10. Around 3/26/10, the machine was taken off stage, the stampbacks were replaced with better fitting smaller versions (CM0032, CM0033, CM0034), and placed at a new backstage location, The Eat Ticket restaurant at Team Disney Anaheim. The three die nickel press was placed by Disney VoluntEARS Fund to support American Red Cross Disaster Relief, Haiti, just after the Haiti earthquake. By May 23, 2013 the coin press was changed from pressing cents to nickels and placed backstage, in an area not accessible by the general public, for the exclusive use of Disneyland Cast Members. In 2015, Jeremy H. reported that this coin press machine had been moved to the Walt Disney Studios, Burbank, CA. with no change in the coin dies. Given the machine has moved outside the Disneyland Resort, this elongated coin is now also listed in the Disneyland Off-site guide as number DO0015. On October 2, 2016, Kim J. reported that this set of coins was located backstage near Cast Costuming at the Disneyland Resort. On December 9, 2022, Kelly B. took a spy shot of the CM0045-47 pressed nickel machine at the Harbor Point Cast Member entrance from a monorail window. (Zoomed image of Harbor Point CM0045-47 nickel press machine.) As reported in February of 2024 by fellow collector Joe F., this backstage / Parkside / Cast Team Center / Harbor Point machine was replaced at the end of January 2024 by a medallion machine offering a selection four Disney 100 Years of Wonder medallions at only $10.00 per set. (Half price compared to the previous onstage price.) It is believed medallions will be replaced as they sell out with different designs and the medallion machine may remain until the last of the D100 medallions are sold. Therefore, we cannot be certain this set of pressed nickels has been retired. They may possibly return in the future. So for the time being, this set of pressed coins has not been noted as retired. Editor's note: We are often reminded that the preferred numismatic term is "Elongated Coins". However, as the rebellious, risk taking, devil may care ParkPennies.com contributors that we are, temptation often gets the better of us. As a result, you may see the more casual, terms like: stamped coins, pressed coins, pressed nickels, pressed dimes, pressed quarters, smashed pennies, flattened pennies, crushed pennies, squashed pennies, rolled pennies, mashed pennies, stamped pennies, smushed pennies, stretched pennies, memory pennies, keepsake pennies, flattened pennies, and souvenir coin medallions to describe these fun pressed coin souvenirs. :-) Here are some pages about the often asked questions of How many pressed coins are at Disney? and How much do pressed coins cost? Just for fun, here is a page with a bit of a different take on Pressed Coins Facts and Fiction with tips on how different coins press, cool pressed coin jewelry, early penny presses... Happy Collecting! Boomer and the folks at ParkPennies.com :-)
