DO Disney Off-Site Elongated Coins
Penny Press Machines That Live Off-Property
© 2006-2009 ParkPennies.com
Pressed Pennies Outside The Resorts
This "DO" Disney Off-site Pressed Coin Guide features elongated souvenirs that were authorized and copyrighted by Disney, are somehow related to The Disneyland Resort and are from locations outside any Disney Resort property.
To qualify for listing in this guide, the coins must have been from Disney owned penny press machines located outside all Disneyland Resorts, outside any location that has its own elongated coin collecting guides such as The Disneyland Resort or Walt Disney World etc. and not associated with a special event. As an example, some pressed coins listed here are from Disney Quest in Chicago or the Disney Soda Fountain in Hollywood California etc. (If these locations were inside a Disney Theme Park or on Disney Resort property, they would have been listed accordingly as are Downtown Disney pressed coins.) Coin order is not chronological as discovery is often haphazard. Needless to say, some of these coins are scarce and / or very difficult to obtain. Elongated coins believed to be off-site and un authorized are listed in the DW Disneyland Wannabe Guide .
Happy Collecting,
Boomer

This Disney copyrighted coin was not in or adjacent to any Disney park. This Pixar Studios elongated coin set was added to the ParkPennies.com guides in 2006. Because Pixar Studios is not open to the public, at least not the likes of Boomer here at ParkPennies... we weren't able to add them to this guide until after more than a year of plotting, to first find examples of the coins, then confirm the machine's location, and lastly scheming up a way to obtain a set of coins... :-) So, it is possible this machine was first placed as early as 2004?

Disney VoluntEARS Volunteer Haiti Relief Pressed Nickels
DO0011 Retired Fireman Mickey Mouse
VoluntEARS Haiti elongated nickel . DISNEYLAND, Fireman Mickey Mouse in fireman's protective suit, ax in hand, © DISNEY, no border. Replaced the CM0029, same obverse die with larger reverse. First backstage 3/26/10 removed from last location around 5/7/10.
Reverse: Small
Type II (~1.25") Mickey Mouse classic pose, Disney VoluntEARS , DISNEY -small ABC logo- ESPN.
Before this machine was moved to Company D on 4/9/10, it was available inside the Disneyland Resort, to Cast Members only. Therefore this set of coins was first listed in the
Disneyland Cast Member and Special Events elongated coin guide as CM0032, CM0033, and CM0034.
We do not think this three dimensional engraving was done by Eurolink or in house at the Disneyland Arcade Shop.
This machine moved from location to location. Nickels baring this new, smaller reverse were first located backstage near the Eat-Ticket Restaurant, Team Disney Anaheim, (Disneyland), on 3/26/10. On about 4/2/10 the machine was moved to a new backstage location, The DCA Cafe, in Disney's California Adventure. On about 4/9/10 the machine was found outside the park just inside the entrance to Company D, the Disneyland Cast Members' store. Cast Members and polite members of the general public were permitted to press coins at this location until around 5/7/10.
The three die nickel press was placed by Disney
VoluntEARS Fund to support American Red Cross Disaster Relief, Haiti, just after the Haiti earthquake.
Robert Hoff of ParkPennies.com was told by trusted sources that the cost of a pressed nickel in this set, at all locations, was a donation of 25 cents or more up to $1.50 plus the nickel to be pressed. (This
Disneyland pressed coin number made with the
possibly now canceled #CMS0024.0.2 obverse

DO0011r-DO0013r Retired Mickey Mouse Disney Type II VoluntEARS small
reverse. DO0011-DO0013 and CM0032-34 Horizontal elongated nickel reverse. Small
Type II Mickey Mouse classic pose, Disney VoluntEARS , fairly clear "DISNEY -small ABC logo- ESPN". Shorter, smaller image when compared to the earlier CM0029-31 reverse.
This backstamp or reverse image is shared by the CM0032, CM0033, and CM0034 in this three coin set. However, each coin has a slightly different reverse image as each coin has a separate and slightly unique reverse engraving.
Originally located backstage near the Eat-Ticket Restaurant Team Disney Anaheim, (Disneyland) on 3/26/10. This smaller Type II reverse replaced the larger Type I CM0029-31 reverse when the nickel press machine was moved from The Harbor Point Team Center to the Eat-Ticket Restaurant at TDA and the machine locations that followed.

This backstamp or reverse image is shared by the CM0029, CM0030, and CM0031 in this three coin set. However, each coin has a slightly different reverse image as each coin has a separate and slightly unique reverse engraving.
Originally located backstage near the Team Center, Disneyland on 3/17/10. When this machine was moved to its second location, The Eat-Ticket Restaurant, on 3/26/10, this larger reverse had been replaced by the smaller CM0032-34 Type II reverse. The original obverse dies carried over.

Scrooge McDuck Elongated Coins
Distributed by Heritage Auction Galleries in 2010
DO0014 Vertical pinched penny, elongated nickel, elongated dime, and elongated quarter. Scrooge McDuck, also known as Uncle Scrooge, with his cane and Bag 'o Money! Inscribed "CARL BARKS, © DISNEY" at the base of the image, classic dot or bead border, initials RWD replace the dot at the center of the coin grip for Raymond W. Dillard, the well known elongated coin collector, designer, and manufacturer. This Disney themed elongated coin is said to be the last done by the very well respected engraver, Bill Grencavich before his retirement. Originally pressed on U.S. copper cents for distribution and very limited four coin presentation sets pictured below (penny, nickel, dime, quarter). Reportedly, at a later time, six sets of elongated coins were made for collectors which included a Steel Cent, Indian Head Cent, Brass Slug, Kennedy Half Dollar, Susan B. Anthony Dollar, Sacagawea Dollar, Canadian Cent, Buffalo Nickel, Silver Quarter, British Half Penny, and Polish Coin.
Reverse: "Ink" image of the original coin is visible on the reverse of the cents. A "ghost" of the original coins remain in relief on the reverses of the nickels, dimes, and quarters.
In a July 3rd 2010 conversation, Mr. Dillard mentioned to Robert Hoff of ParkPennies.com that he had recently pressed and shipped 1,000 cents per an order he had received from Heritage Auctions. Additionally, that six penny, nickel, dime, quarter sets packaged in plastic were sent to Heritage. All elongated coins were for use as promotional items by the auctioneer. (A trusted source later reported to ParkPennies.com that these coins were distributed at the Comic-Con International 2010 held July 20-24, 2010 at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, California.)
Collectors around the world recognize Heritage Auction Galleries as the world's largest auctioneer collectibles including Scrooge McDuck collectibles, comics, Disneyana, etc. The inclusion of a "© DISNEY" suggests placement in this guide section as Disney Off-Site coins e.g. elongated coins licensed by Disney, but, not issued by any Disney Resort. ParkPennies.com has contacted Heritage Auction Galleries for their confirmations, corrections, contributions to the back story of this special elongated coin. To date, they have been very gracious, however, without significant comment on the subject.
Carl Barks elongated coins without "© DISNEY" have been issued by the Carl Barks Fan Club, CBFC. We hope to add a page dedicated to these coins in the near future. Image of a Carl Barks Fan Club Coin here.
Reports of this coin by both Nancy Wooten and Ray Dillard were first believed to be of two different coins. Therefore we give credit to both of these well known and respected elongated coin collectors for this find. (This Disneyland pressed coin number made with the possibly now canceled #DOP0008.0.0 obverse elongated coin die in its original "0" state / variation, paired with a blank "0" reverse coin die.)
