12/20/11 The Seasonal Pressed Nickel Sets have arrived! We've already updated the Disneyland Penny Press Locations Guide (map) with the new machine locations. And the Disneyland and Disney California Adventure guides have also been updated with pictures, guide numbers and locations. Happy collecting!

12/13/11 Our thanks to the many readers who have shared their penny machine searches and reports here, especially over the past month or so. As of today, the anticipated Seasonal nickel machine(s) have not yet been reported. There is extensive construction taking place in Disneyland at the Penny Arcade as well as Disney California Adventure that may have delayed arrival of the machines. Surely the construction will affect the placement of the machines. As always, here is the link to share your reports of new Disneyland penny press machines. We hope to have news soon.

11/26/11 Hong Kong Disneyland Christmas Coins!!!! View them on the Hong Kong Disneyland 2011 Guide page. Our thanks to Mike P. and Hui M. for this report. Hmmm... now Disneyland Tokyo and Disneyland Hong Kong have CHRISTMAS coins on stage. We are receiving status reports daily from collectors that are searching Disneyland USA for the traditional "Seasonal" sets. Stay tuned for updates. 11/22/11 The Seasonal Pressed Nickel Set has not arrived at the park... yet. We are optimistic that there will be six coins, three at Disneyland and three at Disney California Adventure again this year. We are receiving reports daily and will post updates here as they arrive. If you spot them at the park first, please email Boomer at ParkPennies.com.

11/1/11 We have news of Mr. Bob Johnson's retirement! On October 26, 2011, a party was held for him in honor of his 40 years as a Disneyland Cast Member and diver. Cool! :-) Of special interest to ParkPennies.com readers, his retirement party offerings included a three die penny press. All three pressed pennies were different and all featured a SCUBA diver reverse. This is the first time a retiring Cast Member has had three different coins pressed in his honor.
Although Mr. Johnson's retirement party was not open to the public and was held very early Wednesday morning, it didn't miss our attention. Well, maybe we did have a bit of help from some very kind ParkPennies.com readers. :-) And of course, if you have pictures of the machine, the retirement party, or past articles written about Mr. Bob Johnson and his very interesting, unusual profession, please contact ParkPennies. 10/20/11 We have added the NEW Tokyo Disneyland Cast Member Exclusive "pressed pennies" to our guide. This is the first time Tokyo Disneyland Resort has offered a Cast Member only, "back stage" coin. Also, we added six more "a" variations of coins. Just as the DCA Tron dimes were changed by a widening of wire or line borders around the coins, so have the Tron pressed pennies and Fantasy Faire pressed pennies at Disneyland. The six coins have been added to the Disneyland Guides as "a" variations, to acknowledge the small change to an existing pressed penny die.
10/16/11 Well known collectors, Nancy W., John W., Don B., and Chuck N. all reported the New NBC pressed quarter machine to ParkPennies while visiting at the park today. They earned credit for this find as our 10/15 news page, due to a bumble by Boomer, wasn't uploaded until after the park open today.
10/15/11 THE 2011 NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS QUARTERS are onstage! Also, the Tron dime press has returned to DCA, with a very slight change. And... Hong Kong Disneyland has three new coins that will be listed soon, thanks to Mike P's and Hui M's help. 09/17/11 The Tokyo Disneyland Pressed Penny Books & Calendar guide has been updated along with the Duffy The Disney Bear souvenir guide.
09/15/11 Fellow collector Jamie B. reported that five machines inside DCA are currently / still off-stage. "The entire front of the park is closed due to construction. This includes the shops, Greeting from California and Engine-Ear Toys." (4 machines) " The fifth machine missing was the TRON dime press at Gone Hollywood Gifts . ". ParkPennies.com had hoped that these machines would be relocated during construction. However, Jamie's recent search of the park did not uncover the missing machines. Given that these machine may be unavailable for the duration of the construction and could even return with different dies, we have added a gray background to their listings in our iPhone, smartphone, and printer :-) friendly Disneyland Resort penny machine locations pages. The new gray background will also be used for future penny press machines that have been or are expected to be off stage for an extended period of time. Newly placed machines will continue to feature the red background. Our thanks to Jamie and others for sharing reports with fellow ParkPennies.com readers.
09/13/11 The Tokyo Disneyland Pressed Penny Guides now include all coins from the first 1996 to the latest September 2011 issues. The Tokyo Disneyland Coins of the Month Guide has also been updated to include coins issued in September, 2011.

08/26/11 This machine has been offstage for a long time with many rumors as to its fate... As of late Wednesday night (we believe) the Paradise Pier Hotel has returned with three new pressed pennies! The machine features two new images with the third coin offering a new version of the previous Paradise Hotel logo. All three coins have "Disney's Paradise Hotel" stampbacks. The machine is pressing very flat, pressed pennies with high quality engraving and nicely done stampbacks... why not press a set? No admission required to this hotel location! Paradise Pier Hotel penny press machine set Offers the new DR0127, DR0128 and DR0129 First onstage 8/25/11
Note: You may have noticed that some recent penny press replacement die images have been smaller than the images they replaced. Often these new style dies have images about the size of the typical four-play hand crank penny press die image or more like a "dime-sized" image. Fellow collectors have also noted that the machines are often set to press longer souvenirs on these dies leaving an engraved image that can be out of center, as shown in the images above. Possibly the longer setting was chosen to avoid future short rolls? Machines can "set in" over time causing the coins to press shorter. At least the rolls are not short. :-) (The coins pictured in this set were pressed on uncirculated pre-1982 copper cents. Post-1982 zinc cents may press even longer, well-worn copper cents might press at about the right length.)

08/15/11 All Tokyo Disneyland pressed penny guides have been brought up to date as of today's date. Also the DisneySea 10th Anniversary pressed penny holders and book have been added to the guide. A new Duffy Calendar for 2012 has been announced for release later this month. We'll add it to the Duffy pressed penny page as well as the Tokyo Disneyland guides as soon as we have scans.

06/29/11 Our thanks to Ricky K. for being the first collector to report the new Tropicana Inn 2011 dated ec to ParkPennies.com! This coin is now listed in our DW Disneyland Tributes pressed penny guide as DW0036.
06/29/11 We have received several emails from collectors asking if the Paradise Pier Hotel penny press has return, possibly with a DCA 10th Anniversary reverse. This rumor may have started by an erroneous posting at another web site a couple of weeks ago. As of today, the Paradise Pier penny press has not returned. We hope to have an update soon.
06/23/11 The DCA Cars dime press machine is back! The good news is that the Lighting McQueen penny die, now features a Cars Logo! The addition of this logo seems to have balanced the metal draw some and improved the roll quality. Also this change retired the CA0089 guide listing and added CA0113 to the guides. As many collectors will remember, the Cars coin press, unlike most machines at DCA, has machine / computer cut dies that take a good amount of metal to fill their engraved devices, metal that dimes can not offer. Luckily, most of the other Disney California Adventure 10th Anniversary dimes benefit from dies hand engraved by Eurolink's Jimmy Vargas and press nicely, even on dimes. In this collector's opinion, the Arcade Shop has made an extra effort to do the best that could be expected with this challenging set of pressed dimes.

06/08/11 Disney California Adventure's Brother Bear pressed quarter set now has 10th Anniversary stampbacks and a new price, $1.25 each including the quarter to be pressed. (Same as most quarters at Walt Disney World.)
06/08/11 Chuck N. reported today that the ESPN pressed pennies at Downtown Disney, which were raised to $1.00 plus the cent to be pressed about a year ago, have returned to the original price of only 50 cents plus the penny to be pressed. If you have delayed pressing these coins due to price, now may be a good time to get while the gettin' is good. As many readers have commented, some pressed penny machine have increased from 50 cents to $.75 or $1.00 this last year .

05/26/11 The Treasures Gift Shop, Paradise Pier, Disney California Adventure pressed penny machine set now features Disney California Adventure 10th Anniversary stampbacks! This set is the last pressed penny machine in DCA and the only penny set to date that features the 10th Anniversary reverses. (Same reverse as the 10th Anniversary pressed dimes.) Although many collectors thought that this machine might become yet another dime press, Disneyland Resort decision makers have continued the penny press tradition. DCA guests still have the choice to watch a nostalgic Disneyland penny souvenir being made before their eyes, now with a commemorative 10th Anniversary reverse, and still for only 51 cents!
05/20/11 New Tron machine at the Penny Arcade! Our thanks to Josh F. for being the first to report this new machine and even included a marquee picture via his Android Friday around 5:30pm. While at the park, Boomer did manage to jam the machine. Luckily, Cast Member Glen was in the Arcade and had the machine working again within a couple of minutes. The machine is pressing copper cents right on perfect in this collector's opinion. So, do stop in and press some for your collection or for a friend's collection.

05/14/11 The latest Tokyo Disneyland Resort pressed penny holders were added to our Tokyo Disneyland pressed penny books and holders page.
05/12/11 All ParkPennies.com Tokyo Disneyland Resort pressed penny guides as well as the Tokyo Disneyland Resort Coins of the Month page have been updated and are complete as of today. An addition of 27 more coins covering approximately the last month or so have been added. The guides also include five recent coins that, because of the devastating earthquake in Japan, were available for about two weeks and one coin from Tokyo DisneySea that was available for only three days. As readers may know, Disney VoluntEARS has placed a special penny press back stage for Cast Members to help Red Cross fund relief efforts via the sale of Japan Earthquake & Pacific Tsunami Relief Fund pressed pennies. Rumors suggest that this machine might be made available for contributions by Disneyland guests or possibly the public. However, details are not certain yet. 05/10/11 We have added the DL0495 Buzz Lightyear pressed penny to the Disneyland guide, the DL0437 elongated coin with an updated Type III reverse. This latest reverse change brings matching stampbacks to all three coins currently in this set. To hopefully avoid a total collector meltdown, we have a full page detailing the many Astro Blasters Toy Story penny press changes.

05/03/11 We have updated the guides with the newest Cast Member elongated coin issues, the Japan Earthquake & Pacific Tsunami Relief Fund pressed pennies! I must say, that reverse is a real stretch for a penny! :-) But, as you can see in this picture, Disney did it. Currently, this set of coins is listed only in the Cast Member guide, as these coins are NOT currently accessible by regular Disneyland guests. If so, they may also earn listing in a Disneyland Resort guide other than the Disneyland Cast Member elongated coin guide.
05/02/11 No scans yet, so this report currently has rumor status. However, two trusted sources, Lou S. and Nancy W. have both heard tell of a Cast Member only issue, Japan Tsunami Relief set of Disneyland coins. Like the Haiti pressed nickel set some months ago, ParkPennies.com believes these coins may be pressed by the same machine, probably with a Japan specific reverse and maybe on cents. If correct, these coins would currently be backstage and not be accessible by Disneyland guests at this time. Hopefully, the machine may be moved to a public location in the future as was the Haiti nickel press. Stay tuned for updates.

04/28/11 The DCA 10th Anniversary pressed dime set #8 has arrived. This pressed coin set was originally located at the Fly N Buy Gift Shop, Condor Flats, Disney California Adventure. All guides and our single page penny press machine map already have been updated. Happy collecting!

04/12/11 Deep in the dank and dusty basement of a Cayucos California antique shop, warmed only by the auras of keepsakes once held by collectors long passed, the eerie silence is broken by the chime of an arriving text message. An anony-mouse collector's cryptic comment claims: "NEW SET @ penny arcade!". Boomer carefully closes the cabinet doors preserving a precious cache of Disneyana collectibles in the seldom searched corner of the barely explored cellar and makes a beeline for DISNEYLAND!
Thanks to lite traffic, high traction tires, and paddle shifters, Boomer arrived at the park before closing in time to press, scan, and catalog this new set of lands pressed pennies for ParkPennies.com fellow collectors. Enjoy and happy collecting!

03/28/11 Our penny press location pages have been updated to include the latest DCA dime sets. There is a one page and a four page version currently and they are a great help in locating the machines / pressed pennies you want while you're at the park. I must admit that ParkePennies.com machine location guides are not nearly as pretty as the maps available at City Hall. But, we are a bit smaller operation here and can update the maps much faster. :-)

03/12/11 We have received some good news from fellow collectors in Japan. So far all have said they and their families are safe, structures have had only minor damages. Transportation and power are issues. Kuniaki mentioned that: Tokyo Disneyland Resort will be closed until March 21. The ground rises or sinks in many places as a result of liquefaction around the Disneyland Resort and the neighborhood transportation station. TDR parking is in a particularly terrible state. Our thoughts and prayers are with all that have suffered from this terrible series of earthquakes.

03/06/11 Edited 03/10/11 As longtime readers will remember, our Tokyo Disneyland news page is updated as news is received. Our Tokyo Disneyland Resort Pressed Penny Medal Guide Images are updated after we receive coins from Japan to scan. (Which as you can imagine, has become an increasingly costly and time consuming endeavor. However, we believe Kuniaki's web site and hard work deserve our recommendation rather than our duplication of the prized images he has generously offered us.) Currently pending guide coin images include TDL Plaza Restaurant's Lightning McQueen, Bolt, Roz, Boo, TDL Pan Galactic Pizza Port's Wall E, Eve, Peas in a Pod, Jessie and five Ambassador Hotel 10th Anniversary coins which should be added this month along with the March 2011 Coins of the Month etc.
If you are an anxious collector, as we are, Kuniaki Hiraki web site in Tokyo Japan offers new coin images, often the same day they arrive onstage. 03/01/11 Somehow Boomer did it. ParkPennies.com is now full 4GH (Fourth-Generation Hosting) with far more bandwidth and capacity than before. Our last server worked well for more than 7 years. But, the growing popularity of the internet and the hobby may have caused some page loads to slow or stop at busy times. So, yet another upgrade was necessary. If you've been counting... This is our fifth upgrade in web sites / servers since our original tiny 5 megabyte site way back the late 1990s. A comparison of ParkPennies.com web site hits, a common measure of use, not visitors, from 2004-2008 vs. late 2008 illustrates how fast the hobby of collecting Disney elongated coins has grown here and the reason for the upgrades. We believe this new 4GH server system will keep everything running smoothly for a long, long time to come. However, as always, please let us know if you notice any problems, typos, etc.
02/25/11 Some visitors here at www.ParkPennies.com may have noticed a "busy server can't connect" error message from time to time. After talking with our service provider, it seems we need to upgrade our server capacity. While Boomer is fiddling with this project, we'd greatly appreciate your help. Please don't be shy about telling Disneyland Resort and the Arcade Cast Members how much you appreciate their efforts to bring these coins out each year. I can tell it wasn't easy this year. But, they made it happen and "plused up" the set with three DCA coins... All with nice 3-D engraving, dot borders, dated, stampbacks, and excellent artwork. If you have a chance, do let them know how much you appreciate the Seasonal Nickel set. :-)
