Disneyland Pressed Tokens!
"May be the start of a new collectable series...".
After an anxious, hopeful, long wait of more than 15 years... Collectors greeted the first Disneyland Token Presses on Wednesday, May 1st, 2013 at the Tomorrowland Starcade. The three Eurolink style three play coin press machines, modified to accept and press tokens, were placed near a token vending machine featuring brand new "Starcade, Disneyland Park" inscribed tokens.
Cost for a fun, made-while-you-watch pressed token souvenir of your choice, three 25 cent tokens, only 75 cents. Two tokens pay for the press and the third token is pressed into a large, thick, heavy, brass-colored elongated souvenir! Yes, a quarter+ sized Disneyland pressed souvenir for 75 cents!
Because token machines do not press real coins, they provide some real advantages. Pressing tokens can side step future issues such as anticipated changes in Federal coinage and related regulations at the same time they avoid today's problems with pressing zinc cents. Also, the Disneyland Starcade tokens are bit larger than even a quarter, so they offer a larger surface with the potential for more visible and detailed images than possible with a cent, nickel, or even a quarter.
Our Disneyland pressed penny treasures cost the same 50 cents today, as they did back in 1987 when they were first introduced at Disneyland (!) Needless to say, with inflation having eroded profits over the past decades, tokens add needed profitability. Even though a quarter-sized souvenir is kept by the collector, all three quarters paid for the souvenir are kept by the machine operator. That's good because a little increased profitability is a needed incentive for coin press machine operators to support our wonderful hobby. And even better, with these token presses, we keep a quarter-sized souvenir for 75 cents, instead of paying a $1.00+ to press a quarter. :-)
Our conclusion... for many elongated souvenir collectors, tokens will be a fun part of our collections, maybe even a specialized stand alone collection, like the Pirates of the Caribbean Piece of Eight Stamper Medallions . Now is a great time to collect them starting with the very first of the onstage series.
Disney elongated souvenirs after 25 years, still an affordable, fun collection of souvenirs and memories for all ages. Happy collecting, Boomer .

First on-stage from 8/30/12 to 10/14/2012 as a nickel press machine in Starcade coin number DL0528(n). After a long absence, this machine returned on 5/1/2013 as one of the first three Disney coin presses modified to press
game tokens in the USA, coin number DL0528T. Nickels could no longer be pressed. Then, on August 21, 2013 this machine began pressing pennies for the first time, coin number DL0528p. (The DL0528(n), DL0528t, and DL0528p all share the same obverse and reverse coin dies. Their engraved images are all the same, only the coins / tokens they press are different.) A remodel of the Starcade removed all penny press machines and walled off the arcade in early February 2015. Given these dies, in any variation, have not returned to the Starcade or any other location in the park in months and they are "The Space Mountain 35th Anniversary Set", we believe, based on a preponderance of the evidence, they ain't coming back. Retired February 2015.
