These pressed penny style pin sets were envisioned by Walt Disney Imagineering and distributed to Cast Members first as a "Mystery Pin Collection" in 2010. (Mystery bags were so named because what was inside was a "Mystery" to the collector until opened.) Price at the Cast Member only store, Mickey's of Glendale, we believe was $8.95 each. Later issues offered in traditional packaging have been priced at $9.95, which were also offered exclusively through Mickey's of Glendale.

The initial set of five pins was issued on October 23, 2010, the second set of five was released on November 6, 2010, the third set was released on December 4, 2010, and the forth on December 18, 2010... all at the WDI Cast Member store, Mickey's of Glendale. We are initially told that there would be a total of 25 pins. (However, as of 1/12/2018 there have been 74 pressed penny pins issued for Disneyland USA plus three for Hong Kong Disneyland so far. :-) Sets have featured raised lettering on the reverse side of the pin that state the pins are a limited edition of 250. Some issues show "Limited Edition 250" or "Limited Edition" on the pin package cards. (Please see the image of the pin's reverse to the right of this article.) The pins have been made of cast metal with a "polished copper", "antique copper" or "nickel-like silver" finish. Happy Collecting, Boomer

UPDATES: 2/1/2011 It has been a long time since the last series release. We are currently waiting for confirmation of a fifth series or that the forth series concludes the set. We'll post news updates here and on the Insider Pressed Penny News Page. UPDATE 2/8/2011 Our thanks to avid pin collector Erin who reports that current rumors in pin collecting circles is that there may be another Pressed Penny Pin series release in June... possibly several more to follow that. Over the past few months, fellow collectors Erin, Karl, and others have been checking at WDI for any new pressed penny pin issues. Update 12/27/2011 No news. Maybe this set is complete now? But, why not just take a look? Now, honestly, don't you think they could be some of the coolest looking Disney pins yet? :-) Update12/04/2012 A new set of five Disney California Adventure "Buena Vista Street" themed pressed penny pins were just released at WDI. Sticker price is $9.95 and they are being offered as standard "carded" pins, without the mystery packaging used with previous sets. The pins are copies of five pressed pennies placed on Buena Vista Street after the DCA grand reopening. Future issues in this series have not been announced. (This makes a total of 25, which is also the number originally mentioned as the complete set?) Update 2/07/2013 A new set of four Disney California Adventure "Cars" themed pressed penny pins were released recently. Reports are that this set has only four pins compared to the previous five pin sets. Also we have heard that there is another set planned. Update 3/26/2013 A new set of six DCA Paradise Pier and DL Adventureland pressed penny style pins were released. We are thinking this set of 25 total WDI pins maybe a bit larger than rumored. :-) Update 5/30/2013 Hong Kong Disneyland has issued their first pressed penny pins. Update 11/07/13 New set of three "Ducks" and three "Buena Vista Street" Cars themed pressed penny pins released by WDI. Update 1/14 New Buena Vista Street set of three. Update 02/18/14 New set of three Duffy themed pressed penny pins. Update 03/20/14 New set of three Buzz Lightyear themed pressed penny pins were released. I'm thinking that original estimate of a total set of 25 pins was not accurate. :-) Update 04/14/14 New set of three Tron themed pressed penny pins were reported. Update 07/28/14 New set of three Space Mountain themed pressed penny pins were reported. Update 09/10/14 New set of three Soarin' Over California themed pressed penny pins were reported. 09/21/2017 & 1/12/2018 Still NOTHING NEW TO REPORT SINCE LAST UPDATE...
