Tron Legacy Pressed Penny Set and...
Pressed Dimes Arrive at DLR!

Tron DCA 10th Anniversary pressed dime.Tron's Sam Flynn with his Identity DiscMay of 2011 has brought the Tron Legacy themed pressed penny set of elongated coins in both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. Disneyland has the DL0499, DL0500 and DL0501 pressed pennies with coin specific stampbacks, shown below. Disney's California Adventure offers a Tron pressed dime set with DCA 10th Anniversary stampbacks. Both sets have nice engraving, wire borders with "D's" in the wire borders of the coins. (With the introduction of the DCA Tron set, each park now has its own specific "D" initial. The Old English script style of Disneyland and the artist brush style "D" of Disney California Adventure are now used on their specific elongated coins.) Tron fans will probably want to collect both sets and at only 51 cents for each pressed penny and 85 cents for each pressed dime, they make a bargain Disney souvenir that can last for generations.

The Disneyland Park has passed another milestone this month! The number of pressed pennies issued since the hobby began is now more than 500! Many longtime readers couldn't help but notice as their collections grew from a few elongated coins in a pocket-sized book to banks of three-ring binders. At the same time, the number of souvenir coins listed here in ParkPennies guides from all Disneyland Resorts and venues has grown into the thousands. And guide files, pages, and images number more than 16,000... so far. That's a lot of happy collecting and fun memories! :-)

Got a few minutes? Why not read a bit about our take on the history of Disney pressed pennies or view the first Disney penny machine marquees that greeted the first Disney elongated coin collectors in 1987. Want to see them all? Here's a page with links to images of thousands of Disney elongated coins and "pressed penny souvenirs" from Disneyland pressed coin collections around the world... and you can see them right here at ParkPennies.com. :-)
Happy Collecting, Boomer

Because reverse "dies" and coin dies are different in many ways, they are treated differently here at ParkPennies. Guides confirm that unlike coin dies, reverse “dies” often share a single design / artwork "type" pressed onto the reverse of many different elongated coins. When these reverse "dies" are compared to others of the same design "type", often there are slight differences as each is etched or engraved individually. Editor's note: We are often reminded that the preferred numismatic term is "Elongated Coins". However, as the rebellious, risk taking, devil may care ParkPennies.com contributors that we are, temptation often gets the better of us. As a result, you may see the more casual, terms like: stamped coins, pressed coins, pressed nickels, pressed dimes, pressed quarters, smashed pennies, flattened pennies, crushed pennies, squashed pennies, rolled pennies, mashed pennies, stamped pennies, smushed pennies, stretched pennies, memory pennies, keepsake pennies, flattened pennies, and souvenir coin medallions to describe these fun pressed coin souvenirs. :-) Here are some pages about the often asked questions of How many pressed coins are at Disney? and How much do pressed coins cost? Just for fun, here is a page with a bit of a different take on Pressed Coins Facts and Fiction with tips on how different coins press, cool pressed coin jewelry, early penny presses... Happy Collecting! Boomer and the folks at ParkPennies.com :-)
