Batuuan Spira Gift Card Tokens have been offered at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts. These heavy, thick metal tokens were issued in folding envelopes / sleeves and available for purchase inside the Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge "land" also known by some as Black Spire Outpost or Batuu. Initial Spira were limited to one per guest. Later on limits were relaxed. The earliest Spira credits token was bronze or brass in color with sleeve printing in Aurebesh* that read "Spira BSO". (The in-universe for the area of Galaxy's Edge is the Black Spire Outpost, on the planet Batuu.) The second Spira version was a nickel or silver color with an envelope / sleeve that in Aurebesh* read "may your deals go well".
Update 8/2023: Our thanks to Jeremy M. for reporting that the Disneyland Resort recently updated the silver Spira gift token packaging. Although the token itself is unchanged, the 2023 sleeve in Aurebesh* now reads "may you have the better hand".
A back story presented for these rechargeable gift cards supported a "local currency exchange" theme, so purchases made in Batuu could be made in Spira, not earthly dollars. (However the cards were also honored any place where Disney gift cards were accepted.) Originally, guests could purchase Spira gift card with a minimum $100.00 balance in "credits", no tax or fee. Later, a fee of $4.99 was added to the purchase price. In keeping with our by collectors and for collectors, these "redeemable tokens" were added to the ParkPennies Guides by popular request.

The Adam Cool Pressed Coin above is listed here because of it's unique manufacture. The coin is pressed into a die not squeezed between rollers. This makes for a round pressed coin that was hard to identify until we found an entry in a catalog attributing it to Adam Cool, the well known engraver. We hope it is of interest, but, it does not otherwise qualify for listing here as a "redeemable token" as it was never meant to be "redeemed" for a snack or arcade game play. I'm thinking it really is a "pressed penny"! :-) |

Lamplight tokens were first offered during the "Touch of Disney" event at the Lamplight Lounge, Disney California Adventure Park, from March 18 through April 19, 2021. The Disney California Adventure limited event gave guests an opportunity to see more of Disney California Adventure with some dinning and entertainment extras (Like TOKENS! :-) before the Disneyland Resort re-opened after the COVID-19 closure on April 30, 2021. Two tokens with a string tie pouch were officially offered for $8.00 only to guests at the Lamplight Lounge and were popular souvenirs throughout the event. Acquisitions of these cool mementos have been reported as still continuing in October of 2021, the time of this update. Although they currently are listed provisionally as "tokens of interest" their status may change. (As of this writing, the tokens do not yet qualify for full listing in this guide as "used for machine operation, premium redemption or awards". Rumors before the Touch of Disney event suggested that the planned tokens might be "redeemable" for food, game play, etc.) |

And inspired us, after reader suggestions,
lots of welcome reader suggestions, to add a token collection page. :-)
Disneyland tokens* can be fun to collect. Tokens have been issued for use as payment in arcade games, lockers, and even issued as Cast Member awards for years. While most were spent, some of these inexpensive "coins" have found their way into pocket change, drawers, collections and in 2013, even into Disneyland token "penny press" machines! On purpose!
Some of us ParkPennies readers have collected these fun mementos (intentionally or unintentionally :-) for years. However, with the recent Disney California Adventure introduction of the ElecTRONica Flynn's Arcade tokens and later the Mad T Party tokens, followed by the Starcade tokens at Disneyland and the introduction of the first Disney USA token press machines at Disneyland... Collector interest has grown, rapidly! Recent ParkPennies reader emails have asked if there could be a ParkPennies.com Disneyland Tokens Guide. We jumped at the chance. To date we have added a Disneyland Machine Tokens Collection, Disneyland Pirates of the Caribbean Doubloons Collection, Disney Typer Disk Tokens, and Disneyland Wooden Tokens (nickels). We'll add images of tokens from our modest personal collection. We hope you'll submit images of additional tokens you've collected to share with fellow collectors. If crowd-sourcing works as well for Disneyland tokens as it has for Disneyland elongated coins, we'll all have one great guide to help us all complete and identify... Disneyland Tokens!

"Tokens", that is, the coin-like disks designed to be used as payment for use in arcade and vending type machines; redeemable for goods or services. (Not collector medallions or Mardi Gras Coins / throws / Doubloons) As such, tokens were not primarily issued for collecting, if at all. But, there are some really neat Disneyland issued tokens, they could make a really neat collection. We gotta have 'um! :-)
