12/08/16 Late update today. Boomer was at the park again... AND The Disney California Adventure HOLIDAY PRESSED NICKEL SET IS ONSTAGE at the Los Feliz Five & Dime! I don't have the pictures done yet, should be up tomorrow. I didn't want to delay the news because you can now press both sets of Holiday Nickels at the Disneyland Resort! And they are nice! Very cool designs and stampbacks! I'll be updating the guides, the Disneyland Resort Seasonal Pressed Nickel Collections Guide etc. over the next few days. These very cool coins will be added to the Disneyland Park Pressed Coin Guide soon. The ever popular Penny Machine Locations page is already updated. By the way, one of the machines at the World of Disney is hidden in a spot that is near impossible to find without knowing its new location, which is listed on the... wait for it... ParkPennies Penny Machine Locations page! :-) So, do print, download, bookmark and / or share a copy of the most current listing of Disneyland Resort Pressed Coin Machine Locations before you head for the Disneyland Resort. I noticed today that the books aren't everywhere. But, Chuck N. reported some at Westward Ho Gift Shop near the Frontierland Shooting Gallery and I noticed a bunch of them on a low shelf in the Acorn Gift Shop at the Grand Californian this afternoon. 12/02/16 Boomer is extra alert now looking for signs of the very much anticipated 2016 Seasonal Nickel sets. As longtime readers and avid collectors know, the Holiday Nickels were placed onstage first at Disneyland in 1995, then at Disney California Adventure in 2010 and have not missed a year since. (Neither has Boomer! :-) For many Disneyland Resort visitors, these special nickel sets have become a tradition that brings them back year after year to enjoy the park... And press the newest set of dated Season's Greetings, New Years, and Happy Holidays elongated coins for their most treasured collection, photo album, or scrapbook. Over the years, there have been some really nice souvenir designs! You can view every one of the 80+ pressed coins that make up both the Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure collections in the ParkPennies Disneyland Resort Seasonal Pressed Nickel Collections Guide. Plus, the guide lists when the sets have been placed onstage, taken offstage, prototype coins... Needless to say, these Holiday Pressed Nickels are one of my favorite collections. They bring back fun memories with family and friends over the past 20+ years... If you haven't already started collecting them, maybe this year is the time to start? Happy collecting, Boomer.
11/17/16 Our thanks to Sarah N. for once again reporting that a machine has been moved. This time to a harder to find location. It's the second penny press machine at the World of Disney in Downtown Disney, Anaheim. It was near the door, now it is near the Starbucks side of the World of Disney, in the hallway, near the water fountains and restrooms. Sarah reports that this new machine location isn't visible from the sales floor.
We've updated the Penny Machine Locations page with this new information. Don't be shy about sharing the ParkPennies Penny Machine Locations page. Thanks to your help, it is the most up to date listing of all coin press machines in the Disneyland Resort Area. Also, today, Boomer has a NEW quarter press machine to report! It's at the Penny Arcade on Main Street. We'll update the Disneyland Park Pressed Coin Guide soon, the Penny Machine Locations page is already updated. Wow! It's been a busy few months! 11/14/16 A most welcome report from Ralph X! "Just back from HKDL. Some news:
1st, all the ‘cell phone penny holder’ GONE.
2nd, you cannot buy ‘full collection’ from Disney. They removed by some cannot say reason. BUT, you won’t miss that, you can buy them from air port. Don’t miss again. Call the cashier. Why you need full set? Confirmed you can get 3 pieces of LE pennies. And some retired pennies. Full collection book’s pennies more than the HKDL. I’ll shot some photos of all of them a bit later again.
3rd, but full collection without the Star War 3 pennies. And at the ‘city hall’ (the front door, near the rest room, total 2 machines, won’t miss that), the Duffy machine included the ‘full collection’. But the second machine excluded. You need get them.
4th, the book was updated. Book HKD 125. And full collection with book is HKD 720. A big black book, I don’t like this design. JUST only can find in main street. Call the cashier, otherwise, you won’t find it easily. So, as foreigner like me, you can ignore the book, because of I can make sure you can buy the book with full collection at air port until today (Nov. 13. 2016). But as local Hong Kong. THAT will be painful. Just can ask somebody for help, or, buy a ticket and pass the custom, go to the DFS store. Best Regards, Ralph." 10/26/16 So, we were caught up yesterday. :-) Today, we are very happy to report another new pressed coin set at Disneyland. There is a NEW Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters pressed penny set! The DL0657, DL0658, and DL0659 make up yet another set of nicely themed coins that press / roll nice and flat and feature great stampbacks. The Penny Machine Locations is already updated and the Disneyland Park Pressed Coin Guide will be updated soon. So now, with the addition of this new machine, there are two Buzz Lightyear themed coin presses at the The Little Green Men Store Command (Formerly the Premier Shop) AKA "The Buzz Lightyear Ride exit". The original Buzz Lightyear set and this NEW Buzz Lightyear set.
The new machine was rumored before it arrived because a 60th machine was taken off stage at the same location. With this new machine onstage, there is only one more 60th coin press location that we think might be updated with new designs, according to the Penny Machine Locations listings and our speculations. But, given the remaining machine, that we feel is most likely to be updated, was originally located at the Train Station and the Disneyland Train isn't currently running, we think that machine might be saved for a later update. This time a Stitch and Angel themed three play penny press machine in the Sideshow Shirts Gift Shop in Disney California Adventure. This new three coin set is nicely done, the coins press perfectly and have great stampbacks as you can see in this Stitch and Angel pressed coin set picture. We'll be adding this new set to the Disney California Adventure Pressed Coin Guide soon we hope. 10/15/16 Our thanks to avid collectors Randy K. and Jim C. for reporting a NEW Adventureland pressed penny set! (Matter of fact, that's Jim's excellent picture of the machine buttons shown here.) Yes, it seems like just yesterday that we reported a new penny press... Wait... Yes! It's yet another new pressed coin set. The new set is replacing the retired 50th Tiki Room set of three pressed pennies and is a Moana themed three penny set, with fantastic stampbacks! Based on the recently retired coin press machines, we think there may be another machine or two before the Seasonal Pressed Nickel Set, which has become a tradition at the Disneyland Resort since 1995 and we trust will continue this year. 10/14/16 NEW Frontierland pressed penny set! Yes! Another new pressed coin set was placed onstage at the Bonanza Outfitters. As you have seen over the past few weeks, Disneyland Resort is really "plussing up" the pressed coin offerings. Some might say the end of the 60th pressed coin collection was the start of another great collection. Nice themes, great stampbacks, and only 51 cents each at the park, including the penny that is pressed before your eyes! But wait, there's more! I mean, when we hear more, we'll post it here. :-)

10/08/16 Our thanks to Natalie H. for reporting TWO MORE NEW coin press sets! The latest additions are located at the World of Disney Gift Shop, Downtown Disney Anaheim! This brings the total to FIVE NEW Machines, 15 new pressed coin designs, in this recent post-60th pressed coin design renaissance. The first machine offers Mickey, Goofy, and Donald as shown to the left.
The second machine offers Winnie The Pooh, Dumbo (Jumbo Jr.), and Pinocchio as shown to the right.
All six coins have excellent stampbacks, images edge to edge, press flat and you can press you own penny. If only all theme parks could offer such choice and "show" as you watch your own coin being pressed before your eyes for 51 cents! Don't forget these two new machines are in Downtown Disney. No admission charge is required and there is free parking in the Downtown Disney lot for up to two hours without validation. (More than two hours with certain validations.) 09/30/16 Edited 10/1 It appears all 60th pressed coin machines have been taken off-stage! And... so far, three new pressed coin sets have already been placed onstage, The Pirates machine last week plus two new pressed coin sets today! They are the DL0642, DL0643, DL0643, and DL0644 Beauty and the Beast pressed quarter machine located in The Enchanted Chamber (Castle), and the DL0645, DL0646, and DL0647 Winnie The Pooh pressed penny machine located in Pooh Corner, machine #1. We have updated the ParkPennies Penny Machine Locations page with the locations of these new pressed coin sets and the retirement of the 60th pressed coins. Also, on some "Full Site" pages, new "coin die numbers" will be added as we roll them out. Mobile pages will follow. Please keep in mind that The ParkPennies Coin Die Numbers are still provisional and may be subject to change or adjustment as we confirm them. We know these new numbers, as handy as they may be, will be of interest only to very advanced collectors who delight in the extreme exclusive details offered in The ParkPennies Guides... But, isn't' that reason enough to add them? :-)

09/29/16 Our thanks to the many ParkPennies.com visitors who kindly shared reports that the Kingswell Camera or Elysian Arcade 60th coin press machine (offering the 60th Carthay Circle, 60th Red Car Trolley, and 60th D60 Diamond Celebration pressed pennies) has been off-stage for more than a week. So.... we are updating the ParkPennies Penny Machine Locations page to reflect the machines current status with the hope that will return. Shaina B. also reported that the Rushin' River Outpost machine is off-stage while construction work is taking place. 8/29/16 Our thanks to Colleen for reporting that the coin press machines located at the Lincoln exit (Main Street Opera) are gone. Boomer did hear that the 60th machine has been moved to the Disneyana Shop next door. But, that is the only machine from the Lincoln exit that has been relocated so far. The ParkPennies Penny Machine Locations page has been updated to reflect the current status of these machines. If the machines do not return or if they return with new designs, the date of their retirement will be the date of the closure, if memory serves me, I think that August 22, 2016. 8/21/16 Newlyweds' pressed coins found! Raoul R. wrote us today asking "there were some newly weds who were collecting, and were working off your location list. The Paint the Night Parade started and they darted out of the Opera House leaving their Main Street USA and Brer Fox Critter Country pennies behind. I found the pennies when I went to use the machine; tried to find them, but couldn't in the chaos. Since they were using your location map I was hoping that maybe you might be able to post something, they would see it, and I would be happy to mail them their pennies. 7/21/16 Our thanks to Jess T. for reporting that the Mad T Party penny press machine, CA0141-143 located at the Gone Hollywood Gift Shope in Disney California Adventure, is still offstage. Given Disneyland Resort machines are seldom offstage for long unless they are in line for new coin designs or the machine is relocated and given that there are many rumors of new coin designs for Disney California Adventure, and the machine has not been relocated, (We're almost to the end of this sentence :-) we're thinking the set is retired. The Penny Machine Locations and the Disney California Adventure Pressed Coin Guide have been updated. Happy collecting, Boomer.
7/13/16 Our thanks to Mike R. for reporting that one of the machines at the Disney California Adventure five and dime store was "missing" today. Hmmm... Knowing that this is the machine that held the Luigi's Flying Tires pressed coin and that the ride has been closed, replaced with the Rollickin' Roadsters... Boomer took off for the park thinking for sure there would soon be a new coin at DCA. But, upon arriving, the old machine was in fact still missing.
Well, Disneyland is not a bad place to spend some time. There is lots to do... gotta check the other coin press machines in the park, right? :-) Then, later in the day, another check for the missing machine. The coin press machine had returned... with a NEW Luigi's Rollickin' Roadsters pressed penny!
We've already updated the ParkPennies Penny Machine Locations page, we'll retire the CA0172 Luigi's Flying Tires pressed coin and add this new coin to the Disney California Adventure Pressed Coin Guide soon. Happy collecting! Boomer.

7/07/16 Shanghai Disney Resort (SDR) Magic Medallion coin press machines ("Some", "all", "many") have recently been reported as "out of order". We have heard some machines were not working or coins are "rolling short", missing part of the coin design. (Short rolls are apparent in some eBay SDR coin auction images.)
The reports were received from ParkPennies visitors and personal friends of ParkPennies staff that are or have friends that are in or have recently been to The Shanghai Disneyland Resort. One report commented that a person had repeatedly visited SDR without being able to press a complete set of coins due to machine problems. We are told that some park guests have reported the problem to the Shanghai Disney Resort directly. We anticipate that the machines will be adjusted soon. In our opinion, the best thing to do is tell The Mouse. We hope future reports to ParkPennies will confirm that the machines have been adjusted / repaired. As soon as we have confirmation of fully operational machines at SDR, we will post the news here. If you have an update about Shanghai Disney coin press machines, please contact ParkPennies. 7/01/16 The 2005-2014 Decades set of pressed coins was placed onstage sometime before 10:00 this morning. The machine is working great, presses copper cents perfectly. This should be the last in the series of Decades coins bringing the total number of coins issued for the 60th Diamond Celebration to... 60. (39 60th coins originally placed onstage including the first set of Decades coins, plus seven additional sets of three each Decades coins.) We have posted an image of the 2005-2014 coin press machine marquee here, updated The ParkPennies Penny Machine Locations page, and will have the Disneyland Resort Hotels and Downtown Disney Pressed Coin Guide updated soon. 6/30/16 We're closer to a presentable Shanghai Disney Resort pressed coin guide. (Okay, maybe it's not fancy. But, if you need a list of SDR pressed coins, you might think it a beautiful sight. :-) We will also be adding our "traditional" guide page entries with closeups of individual coins as soon as we have access to the coins for scanning. Which reminds me... :-) Several collectors have contacted us inquiring where they could purchase a complete set of Shanghai Disneyland coins. Wish I knew! 6/27/16 We are still gathering images and working on the ParkPennies Shanghai Disney Resort pressed coin guide that we mentioned a few days ago. Boomer has been extra busy. But, we hope to have it uploaded with 1 machine x 12 coins, 4 machines x 8 coins and 6 machines x 4 coins for a total of 68 Shanghai Disneyland pressed coins later today or early Wednesday! But, wait there's more! :-) We have real pictures of the actual coins, artwork and machine images too! 6/25/16 Today the well known Disneyana Collectors, Dan and Laura B., (Also known as IMTIGGER! on eBay) shared news of a 6/24/16 Blog Post by Michelle Harker, who collectors know as a wonderful source of pressed coin news and The Mouse knows as Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort. But, I digress more... :-) In her post, Michelle talks about the new Star Wars Pressed Coin Machines. Michelle Harker often has news well worth checking out and in my opinion, worth a bookmark. (As you may recall, she was the person that announced the 60th pressed coins.) Additionally, ParkPennies has posted some information about these very cool Star Wars coin presses here in the ParkPennies 5/20/2016 New Star Wars Pressed Coins post and in the ParkPennies Guide to Disneyland Star Wars Pressed Coins.

6/19/16 Our thanks to Alex D. for reporting that the ESPN hand crank penny press machine located in Downtown Disney (Not maintained by The Disneyland Resort Arcade.) has been taken offstage. This machine was last reported out of order in May of 2016 by the machine owner with no following updates so far. It is possible that the machine has been taken offstage for repair and may return. We will note the guide and machine locations pages if the machine does not return soon. 5/26/16 Our thanks to Randy K. for reporting the relocation of a hand-crank penny press in Downtown Disney, Anaheim. He shared his observation of the
DR0139-142 Tinker Bell, Pirate Mickey, Captain Hook, and Sorcerer Mickey hand crank machine between Wetzel's Pretzels and Häagen-Dazs Ice Cream. That's a tempting but dangerous location for old Boomer. :-) We have updated the Penny Machine Locations page. Happy collecting, Boomer.
5/25/16 About the posting of jammed or temporarily out-of-order machines... The Star Wars and Decades coin presses have really been busy lately! While at the park over the past few days, I have often noticed lines at the Star Wars quarter presses. One of the machines jammed Sunday morning. But before long, two Arcade Shop Cast Members, Kathie and Laura, quickly cleared the machine and saved the day. On another day, a dirty quarter was pressed in the Rebel Forces quarter press. (I could have understood if it was put in the First Order machine. :-) Soon, a Star Trader Gift Shop Cast Member shut down the machine. A short time later, it was up and running... Sorry, I digress, again. :-) What I want to say is that because machines this busy do occasionally require maintenance and because at Disneyland that maintenance is often done within a day, ParkPennies does not post or mark that a machine is "off-stage" or "out-of-order" unless a machine has been or is expected to be unavailable for a long time.
We are often reminded by emails and stories shared with us by fellow guests, repeatedly :-), that coin press machines in "other theme parks" may be out of adjustment and rolling short or jammed for a week or more. Yes, I do feel a bit spoiled at Disneyland from time to time, but, isn't that what brings us back to Disneyland again and again? ;-) Next time you see a Cast Member tuning up a coin press, please don't be shy about saying "thanks" and if they share news of an upcoming penny press with you, do let us know. :-) Happy collecting, Boomer.
05/20/16 TWO NEW STAR WARS QUARTER PRESSES ARE ONSTAGE! Today ParkPennies Staff Members Char, Stasi, Dave, and Bob were the first to report that the rumored and long awaited Star Wars pressed coins have arrived! The new machines offer three pressed quarters each. One coin press features the Rebel Forces and the other offers First Order themed coins. Cool! Both machines are located at the Star Trader Gift Shop in Tomorrowland. By the way, these are very special coin press machines. I don't quote Walt often, but, when I saw these machines, I couldn't help but remember his words "Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world." Imagination has made these machines extra-special. Even guests that don't collect pressed coins, if there are any :-), may want stop by the Star Trader Gift Shop and watch the coin press "shows". 
As you'll see there, the marquees or penny press signs have been replaced by video screens that play video clips featuring images of the Star Wars themed pressed quarters with sound while lights of changing colors illuminate the coin as it's pressed. Really, you've got to check them out. And, these priceless souvenirs cost only $1.00, 75 cents plus the quarter that is pressed into a Star Wars keepsake as you watch! 05/06/16 NEW 60th DECADES SET! Today Boomer reported that the 1995-2004 themed set, the seventh set of eight total Decades sets to be issued for the 60th, has arrived! In a couple of months with the arrival of the last rumored Decades set, the 2005 - 2014 set, the 60th pressed coin collection should be complete with a total of 60 different pressed coins. 04/09/16 Our thanks to several fellow collectors who have contacted Boomer with an important update: The Decades penny press machine is offstage. The first report was received Friday. We believe that the machine's absence is temporary, possibly for maintenance. But, we will post an update if we hear the machine is offstage permanently etc. The next Decades set isn't expected (based on past Decade machine changes) for another month or so. 03/19/16 As a follow-up for our report yesterday, we have posted the marquee for the latest 2016 pressed nickel set here, updated The ParkPennies Penny Machine Locations page. The Disneyland Park Pressed Coin Guide with pictures and descriptions will be updated soon. Rumors of a Star Wars penny press persist. As soon as we spot or receive a report of a new machine, we'll post it here. UPDATE 3/21/16 Our thanks to Mike R. for reporting that the DL0627-629 machine was gone this morning and returned this afternoon. The machine, marquee and coin designs did not change... with the exception of new stampbacks that include copyright notices. This change retires the DL0627-629 set and introduces the new DL0630-632 set for advanced collectors. Casual collectors who missed the original 2016 pressed nickel set need not stress over this change as the two sets share the same obverse designs. Clarification: 3/18/16 through 3/20/16 All coins in the set no "C Disney". 3/21/16 on C Disney on all coins in this set. No exception. Happy Collecting, Boomer.

02/15/16 Steven P. has a new Smashed Coin Collection Database that just came to our attention. Steven reports that this new, still in Beta site, will make building a personalized collection easier, mobile, and always up-to-date. The site has an easy search function, large drag-and-drop images, allows users to make unlimited collections in any form or fashion, and works on mobile platforms. Right now, Steven is looking for beta testers to use the site and provide feed back. He is looking for feed back on broken functionality, desired features, and general improvement. 02/09/16 Our thanks to Shawn P. for catching a fumble finger number switch we made when updating the DL0596, DL0597 and DL0622, DL0623. These two coins and related comparison pages are now all correctly numbered etc. If your coins match this DL0596 vs. DL0622 image and this DL0597 vs. DL0623 image. You're good. :-) (An easy way to attribute these very similar pairs of coins is to note that the newer versions / states are shorter in height and each have a small raised "tick". 01/30/16 Recently I was visiting with a fellow guest and penny presser at Disneyland. As we were pressing coins, the conversation moved to how nicely the machines work at Disneyland. Even the pre-1982 solid copper cents I used were exceptionally flat and well formed with complete images. Disney quality. However, the fellow guest reminded me that things are not like that at all Disney Resorts.
Some newly-designed machines at another Disney Resort:
- Do not let you choose or press you own coins. Sadly, you cannot place a penny or token in the machine and watch as it's pressed.
- Are pre-loaded with less desirable copper-plated zinc cents. Not the pre-1982 solid copper cents many guests prefer or insist upon.
- Charge twice as much as The Disneyland Resort. $1.00 to press a single penny, unless you buy all 12 coins offered by the machine, then it's “only” $10.00 for the set.
But, that’s not what the guest was most disappointed about. It was the low quality coins the machine used (zinc) and the poor quality of the "pressing" (some too long and some too short). Here's an image of some WDW 12 die coins shared with us by a disappointed owner.
Why this post is so important. Disneyland Resort guests enjoy the “show” when fun, quality souvenirs are pressed on our own solid copper cents or Disney tokens. Watching a coin or token we have placed in the machine being pressed into a quality keepsake souvenir before our eyes makes a memory, often a very fun memory. But, sometimes we forget that this "plus" at The Disneyland Resort is not by accident and it’s not like that everywhere. If not for the Disneyland Resort Team it could all disappear. So, please don’t forget to let the people in the corner offices and the amazing Cast Members in the park know how much you appreciate what they do. :-) Happy Collecting, Boomer.

UPDATE: 2/2/16 Er, ah, okay. :-) I'm getting the feeling that there are a lot of people that would like to be heard on this subject. We're happy to offer a forum for comments. What are your thoughts about the new 8 - 12 coin choice machines that press coins already inside the machine, vs. the traditional, three coin choice coin press machines that press a coin or token that you place in the machine to be pressed? You can share your thoughts and contribute to a future article on the subject by emailing Boomer.

01/22/16 Recent updates courtesy of fellow Disneyland elongated coin collector, Randy K. : Main Street Train Station 60th set of pressed coins, now located at the Main Street Penny Arcade. Yes, The Penny Arcade has a "penny press" again!
