10/19/06 The Disneyland Park Guide has been updated and now includes the latest 6 coins. 10/19/06 Several welcome emails, which we hope to answer here, have asked if the DL0349 is an "error coin".
As some collectors have noted, the Disney marquee artwork for this set of coins indicates that this coin, as is the case with several other coins recently issued, should read "Disneyland(r)" above "Resort" (in very fine print). It is our opinion, that the dots or marks below the "Disneyland(r)" is a poorly computer-engraved "Resort", the correct word, but illegible.
We feel it is important that this reference guide distinguishes between an engraving that is just unclear or illegible and an engraving that has a clear "error". Such tasks are sometimes difficult.
ParkPennies of course does not intend to define the word "error" only how the word is used in the ParkPennies guides.
Advanced collectors are aware that a coin described as an error coin, without any accompanying demand and scarcity, implies no greater value than a non-error coin and that a coin is what it is by any name.
ParkPennies scholarship depends on your welcomed comments, suggestions and corrections.
We have added an "error" section to the ParkPennies.com FAQ’s. 10/22/06 The Nightmare Before Christmas pressed quarters are still expected based on a discussion overheard at the Main Street Penny Arcade. And you know if / when it happens, it will be posted here. We are happy to report that news of new Disneyland penny press machines usually breaks at ParkPennies.com first. It is possible because of your reports and Boomer’s constant surveillance of the park, interrogations, wiretaps and spy satellites. (Well, maybe not all these parts are in place yet. But, you know he’s working on them and getting closer every day. ) 10/24/06 ZZZzzzzZZzzzzzz 10/25/06 Two new machines! One at World of Disney and one at Greetings in Disney’s California Adventure! All Penny Press Machine Locations are updated. Scans and descriptions to follow. If you are the first to report a new machine to ParkPennies, you will see "Your Name Here!" 10/27/06 Three more at Rajah’s Mint in the Adventureland Bazaar!
Images with links moved to 10/28/06 post.
Our thanks to the good folks at Disneyland that made it possible for "Boomer" to press these coins and share them with you today.
Coin numbers will be Mad Donald DL0365, Goofy Disneyland DL0366 and Mickey DL0367. Yes, these coins also have very cool matching stampbacks! 10/27/06 A DN0006 is up for auction! It’s been a few years since I saw one of these offered. New collectors as well as old timers might want to take a look at the auction. 10/28/06 Lots of guide updates. Below are the most recently issued coins. The title bars have the machine locations and links to the updated guides with descriptions etc. Happy collecting!
10/29/06 A quick note to say thanks for the ever increasing, ok, impatient inquiries and reports about the possible Nightmare Before Christmas 2006 quarter set. The machine has moved around a bit lately, however, there are no new coins yet. They are way late, but, we haven’t given up hope. 11/01/06 Several web site readers as well as Boomer were searching the park today for new penny machines. Sorry, no new machines were found today. 11/02/06 Jamie B., Lou S. and Steve S. reported that the Haunted Mansion quarter press is off-stage! Could be new coins are on the way? We’ll have an update Friday, but do contact Boomer if you spot the machine first and we’ll post your report here. 11/03/06 Mike W., Stasi and Bob reported a new machine at The Adventureland Bazaar. It features Simba, Goofy and Pumbaa. They replace Mickey, Mickey, and Mickey. Mickey’s new location has not yet been reported, assuming the set has been moved to another location. The Haunted Mansion coffin machine is still off-stage as of Friday morning. 11/05/06 Lou S. reports that the Mickey set that was recently displaced at the Adventureland Bazaar is now at the Main Street Penny Arcade. It seems the Mickey set replaced the original penny Tinker Bell set, DL0036, 37 and 38, (Tinker Bell, Hook, Peter Pan) which is now apparently retired. 11/06/06 Lots of people are asking about The Nightmare Before Christmas quarter set for this year. After all, it is the Nightmare Before Christmas set, not the Nightmare Before Halloween set. There still is hope! 11/07/06 Thank you all for sharing information about the NBC set... and reassuring fellow collectors of their planned arrival. We hope to report they are on stage soon.
We are also working on updating the machine location pages and guides. By the way, if you missed the Mickey Mouse set while it was at Rajah’s Mint in Adventureland, the set has moved to the Main Street Penny Arcade. I think Mickey wanted to be closer to Coke Corner and the Gibson Girls ice cream shop. It’s was over 90 degrees at the park today! 11/09/06 NEW penny set at the Pioneer Mercantile in Frontierland! Thanks to Grandhobbies for the report! These new coins as well as the 11/03/06 Adventureland Bazaar Set. Sorry, the DL guides will be updated soon.

11/09/06 Advanced collectors Nancy and John reported that the Nightmare Before Christmas Machine was placed on stage. However, the machine stopped about two hours after the park opened. (And after lots of use. ) Do not rush to the park yet. We will post when the machine is working. Given the nature of the failure, the repair may take a few days. 11/10/06 The Disneyland staff has not yet had a chance to repair the Nightmare Before Christmas machine. The park is very busy given the three day holiday. We hope to report that it is up and running by early next week. 11/12/06 The NBC quarter press is up and running as of Sunday morning at the Royal Courtyard, next to The Port Royal Curios and Curiosities shop. Scans and guide updates to follow. When you share this information with fellow collectors, do invite them to visit ParkPennies.com too. Happy collecting. 11/13/06 Three more new coins at the Penny Arcade! Probably arrived late Sunday. Pictures below in addition to the latest Nightmare Before Christmas pressed quarters!

11/14/06Janet S. reported that the DL0251 "Nifty Nineties" Main Street Nickel press is off-stage.
This machine has been missing since November 12. Advanced collectors will remember it pressed the first Disney coin to have a reverse. We hope that it will return. (The new Mickey, Alice and Minnie machine is now this machine’s regular location at the Main Street Penny Arcade.)
We are quickly making updates to the coin guides. Most all of this week’s coins are now included in the DL Guide, Post-50th section. 11/15/06 If it’s been a while since you were at the park and you want to press a lot of coins, be advised that the availability of change is not as good as it was a few months ago. Recently, ParkPennies has received several comments from frustrated coin collectors about their attempts to obtain quarters or even $1 or $5 dollar bills for the change machines. (Examples: Monday morning, 11/13, before the Main Street rope dropped, both change machines in the Penny Arcade were out of order. On the same day, the two change machines in Critter Country, the $1, $5, $10 in the exit from Splash Mountain and the $5 and $1 changer in front of Pooh Corner would accept only $1 bills.)
So, do try to bring quarters with you. If you have $1 and $5 bills, when in Frontierland, try the change machines at the Shooting Gallery or across the street from the Shooting Gallery on the sidewalk near Bonanza Outfitters.
Good news! Disney’s California Adventure now has a change machine. It is located in the Greeting’s Gift Shop at the door closest to the park entrance. It accepts both $1 and $5’s. Additionally, Guest Services at DCA and City Hall at Disneyland will often sell a single roll of quarters. 11/15/06 Fellow collector, Alan offers a great tip. If you need a large number of quarters, the Disneyland Hotel may have them. (Main building, first floor, East side.)
11/15/06 Fellow collector, Ricky, was the first to report a new set of pressed pennies at the Buzz Lightyear Gift Shop! (Boomer was a distant second. )
The three coins are themed to the movie "Cars" with Lightning McQueen, The Cars Logo and Mater. They are in the Autopia gas pump themed penny press. Here is a quick scan. Better pictures to follow. (Please see 11/17/06 for pictures of these coins.) 11/16/06John W. reports that the "Nifty Nineties" Main Street nickel is back on-stage at the Main Street Penny Arcade. AND it has a new stampback! Pictures and guide updates to follow. 11/16/06Steve S., is a very nice fellow that has shared information with ParkPennies readers via email. However, I’d never had the privilege of meeting him in person. Well, today, he walked up to me shortly after I entered the Main Street Arcade and asked "Are you Boomer?". ( I guess the Hawaiian shirt gave me away. ) Steve had some great news. He found a new set of pennies at the Main Street Penny Arcade! They are: Pluto, Pluto and Pluto, in that order. Better descriptions will follow. They are nice images and I hope to have both pictures and updates to the guides later today or Friday. 11/16/06 Seasonal Nickels have arrived! Scans and updates to follow. (A polite way of saying I’m soooo far behind with all these new coins, I don’t know if I’ll ever catch up. )
Great weather, lots of new coins... life is good! Happy collecting. 11/16/06 Over 120 auctions by fellow ParkPennies readers are currently on the visitors’ auction page! There is a nice selection of new, old and unusual coins listed. Never know, there might be a coin offered that you are looking for. 11/17/06The DL Guide and The Penny Press Machine Location Pages have been updated. If you print the Machine location page, you will have the location of all elongated coins in the Disneyland Resort. (Including the Seasonal Nickels!)
Web masters are welcome to "hot link" to the machine location pages, per the ParkPennies.com terms of use. 11/18/06 Several collectors contacted ParkPennies yesterday unable to find the 2006 Seasonal Nickel set. We are told the folks at City Hall and the Main Street Penny Arcade did not know where they may be. When we announced their arrival, we updated the machine locations page, but forgot to mention their location here on the news page. They are at the exit to the Main Street Opera House and easy to reach via the adjacent hat shop.

11/18/06 Did you find a new set of coins on stage? Share the find with fellow collectors and take credit for the find when you contact Boomer. 11/20/06 Lots of updates to the Disneyland Guides and the Tokyo Guides.
Best of the Season and a Happy Thanksgiving to all! 11/21/06 This time of year people are thinking of cool things to give as gifts, enclose in Holiday cards and stocking stuffers. Well, you know there are a lot of cool collecting ideas. Hmm.... what could I suggest? I know! How about Disneyland pressed coins? A very cool, smaller set to start collecting or gifting is the Disneyland Seasonal Nickel Set (One of my favorites! ) or the very cool Tokyo Disneyland Coins of the Month set. Some of the coins will take time, fun time, to find. However, based on what we have seen, over time, the coins may get harder to find, trade for or purchase. (Especially coins like the pre-2000 nickels, etc.) So, now is a great time to get started! Matter of fact, three seasonal nickels are on-stage at Disneyland now as are three coins of the month at The Tokyo Disneyland Resort. Happy collecting! 11/22/06 NEW PENNY PRESS SET in Disneyland as of today! Here is the machine location linkexclusively for ParkPennies Premier Gold Visitors. Boomer says, "Everyone that visits ParkPennies is a Premier Gold Visitor! Just click the link." 11/23/06 Happy Thanksgiving! As a penny collector, I have lots to be thankful for this year. First I think of the the new friends we’ve met while pressing coins this year. And then the new coins this year like the nice Seasonal nickel set and The Nightmare Before Christmas set, all with very cool stampbacks! There are also some smaller things I’m thankful for like the pictures of the quarters and pennies that were added to the marquees. (Remember when foreign visitors would have to ask a stranger which coins would work in the penny presses? ) The placement of a change machine in DCA was very nice too. (You know, my legs ain’t as spry as they once were and it saves me lots of walkin’. ) The return of the Pieces of Eight medal stamper was a welcome sight. I know lots of people missed it while it was gone. But, by far, I’m most thankful for the many great people that have made such a wonderful life possible. Happy Thanksgiving and Happy collecting from Boomer. 11/24/06 For your viewing pleasure, here are pictures of the latest three coins. The guides have all been updated as well. Have a great weekend!
11/24/06Grandhobbies reported today that the three coins displaced at the Rajah’s Mint by the new Genie set, have been relocated at the Fantasia Gift Shop at the Disneyland Hotel. Because of this move, this set of coins is now listed in both the DL and DR Guides. 11/26/06 It’s been a longtime since a penny art nickel has been auctioned! (Comparison image of the rare DN0020 with much more common DL0059) If you are in the market for one, or just want to sit by the screen with a box of popcorn and watch the auction, here it is. Also, a DR0087, Story here, was offered a few days ago! See the auction here. 11/26/06 View the entire Seasonal Nickel set, from 1995 to 2006 here. Are they cool or what? 11/28/06 ZZZzzzz 11/30/06 ParkPennies.com operatives are again infiltrating the Disneyland Park as you read this report. (Boomer is headed for the park in disguise for today’s top secret mission. He isn’t wearing a Hawaiian shirt. ) As advanced collectors know, there are still a few 50th machines that are unaccounted for. Boomer plans to slither, search and spy throughout the resort today looking for them. If there are any new machines in the park, we know they can’t hide from ParkPennies visitors or Boomer! Maybe a new machine will be exposed today? Maybe a Cast Member will crack from our polite inquiries (relentless nagging) and share a new location or upcoming machine? Check back at about 1200 hours PST for the latest intell! As always, when you spot a new machine, you can easily share the news with thankful fellow collectors here. 11/30/06 No new machines found at the park today. Maybe soon? 11/30/06 Just for fun The First Ever ParkPennies.com Disneyland Trivia Contest!
While at the park today, Boomer noticed that in keeping with the winter theme of the very sharp looking Seasonal nickel press, the inner-space of the machine cabinet is covered with a snowflake patterned paper. Not unusual. But, he noticed a bit of unexpected printing at the top of the back section, a safety warning that gives a clue to the interesting history of the paper which has nothing to do with penny presses! We think to know where this nostalgic paper is from, you’d have to be as old as Boomer or really know your Disneyland Trivia!
If you know or figure out this fun bit of trivia based on the clues, your name could be here in print as winner of the first (and probably only) ParkPennies Trivia Contest!
That is if you are the first person to contact us and correctly identify the unusual origin of this snowflake printed paper.
The winner will be announced Saturday.
If we had any ParkPennies employees, a parent company, subsidiaries, contest sponsors, affiliated companies, advertising promotion agencies or any other ParkPennies web sites, the immediate family and other household members (i.e., spouses, parents, grandparents, children, grandchildren, roommates, house mates, significant others, partners, siblings, cloned selves and evil twins) of each of the above would NOT be eligible to enter and/or to win. (Even if they knew the answer to the trivia question and we could afford a prize.)
Note: Bribes or other courtesies extended to contest judges will be gratefully accepted. But, will have no effect on the outcome of the contest, unless they are really good ones.
12/01/06 Tokyo Disneyland update. New Coins of the Month! Read about them on the TDL News page. 12/02/06 Congratulations to Nancy W., The Winner of the First (and probably only) ParkPennies.com Trivia Contest! On 12/01/06 at 7:17 PST, Nancy W., the well known elongated coin collector, was the first to correctly identify the mystery penny press paper as being from Monsanto’s Adventure Thru Inner Space, a Tomorrowland attraction that "shrunk" guests to atom size and then explored the "inner space" of a snowflake. The ride was a very popular attraction back in the 1900’s from about 1967 to 1985.
We hope this trivia contest was as much fun for you as for us. Your entries were great! Some were right on correct, some were close, and one or two were, well, imaginative and entertaining!
Happy collecting. 12/03/06 How time flies! You know, the hobby of collecting Disney elongated coins is reaching its 20th birthday! Do we need mention how the hobby has grown? I can hardly believe that just about 20 years ago, the only Disney park to offer elongated coins was Disneyland. They offered only two machines in the entire park and the machines offered only one coin each! Today, the same Disneyland Resort offers about 175 different coins. (Including the 12 Rain Forest Cafe coins in Downtown Disney.) Walt Disney World offers even more coins and then there is The Tokyo Disneyland Resort, The Disneyland Resort Paris and The Hong Kong Disneyland Resort!
The growing number of machines are making coins for more and more people too. The new collectors are joining email lists, surfing eBay to purchase coins they missed, joining clubs like TEC and making the "Hits Meter" at ParkPennies.com spin like crazy!
I think we speak for many collectors when we say what a wonderful hobby this is and what great fun! The first 20 years have been terrific and the future is bright! You know, it’s hard to believe that just a few years ago, collectors would sometimes greet one another for the first time, maybe at a penny press, saying "I didn’t know anyone else collected these!" 12/03/06 There are some neat coins offered by fellow ParkPennies visitors on the visitors’ auction page. If you’d like to add your Disney elongated coin eBay auctions, here’s how. 12/07/06 Our thanks to fellow collectors, Lou, Alice, Steve, Bob, Mike, Grandhobbies, David and many anony-mouse visitors for sharing the results of their recent penny press searches. However, so far, there are no new machines to report. Rumors do indicate that a new machine or two are expected in the near future so, maybe one will be found soon.
Did you just spot an unreported machine? Be the first to report it. (If you include your name or handle we’ll give you credit for the find here on the news page.) 12/11/06 No new machines to report, however, there are some extra cool new visitor auctions on eBay. Do check them out. 12/13/06 Two very kind anony-mouse ParkPennies visitors have shared information that the Cars set of coins, (Also known as the Buzz Lightyear Gift Shop or "Gas Pump" set.) is currently off-stage. As of this date, we have received no reports of broken dies or set retirement.
Note: Machines are often taken off-stage for repairs or maintenance. The ParkPennies.com Penny Press Machine Location Pages are usually updated only after we have reason to believe a machine has been permanently removed from stage, replaced or moved to a new location. It is a challenge to keep track of the many Disneyland Resort machine locations or know if their disappearance is temporary or permanent. We greatly appreciate the time and efforts taken by fellow collectors to share their reports with this forum. 12/13/06 Rumor just in. The "Cars" set may have been moved to Disney’s California Adventure. Reportedly they are at the Greetings From California Gift Shop. If so, these coins will also be given CA guide numbers. (Recently, the coins which were moved from Adventureland to the Disneyland Hotel were given new numbers in the DR guide.) We hope this doesn’t get too far out of hand. Poor Boomer is confused enough as it is!
Advanced collectors have noted that many of the Post-50th coins do not have park names or "ties" to any location. The coins simply state "Disneyland Resort". Some collectors have voiced concerns that this generic branding may have been used to facilitate frequent inter-park machine moves. Many readers will remember that machines have been occasionally moved in the past. So far, given the number of machines in the resort nowadays, these moves do not appear to have set a new trend. But you know we are all watching. 12/14/06 Now and then we hear of proposed legislation or read of a special interest group that wishes to put an end to the "penny" as in this Wall Street Journal article. Lately, there is news about the U.S. Mint putting in place new rules about melting cents and nickels as discussed in this Business week article.
Some collectors wonder if coin presses in the United States will eventually be forced to use planchets or slugs as they do at Disney parks in Tokyo Japan and Hong Kong. Collectors have already noticed that Canadian cents are not pressed in Canadian penny presses. Maybe souvenirs pressed on U.S. coins will go the way of copper cents, hand-drawn animation and the hand-embroidered names on Mouse-ear hats? 12/14/06 Fellow collector, Jeff, was at the park 12/13/06. He kindly emailed to verify that the Cars machine is in California Adventure. ParkPennies guides will be updated soon. Friday is one of Boomer’s check the park days, so be sure to check back tomorrow for his report. 12/15/06Boomer reported another new set of coins at Disneyland today! Scans and location to follow. 12/15/06 Here are the latest three coins!

12/15/06 The DL Guide, DLR Guide ( Reverses) and Penny Press Machine Location Pages have all been updated. Enjoy! 12/16/06 Please note the new Tribute set is next to the Seasonal nickel machine, both machines are currently available. 12/16/06 Thank you for sharing links to ParkPennies with fellow Disney penny collectors. Sometimes we don’t have a way to say thanks directly. But, rest assured, when we spot one on email lists, on-line groups, chats or personal web sites. They make our day! Thank you very much. 12/17/06 Reminder... The year is coming to an end! Don’t forget that traditionally, Disneyland retires dated elongated coins early in the new year. The controversial 2006 Chip N Dale coin has been on-stage for nearly a year and may well be retired as early as the first day of the new year. Coin sets like the dated Seasonal nickel sets and the Nightmare Before Christmas sets are often retired in late January or early February. Of course, any machine could be retired earlier, later or taken off stage for repair or other reason at any time. So, if you’ve put off pressing these coins now is a good time. 12/20/06 ParkPennies is, as you can see, a great collaboration by many Disney elongated coin collectors. Over the years, we have given credit to terrific fellow collectors for spotting a new machine or a coin change. But, ParkPennies would also like to give credit to those readers that help by reporting errors and typos. People like Lisa Shoup, who’s priceless help, generously volunteered, has been a life saver for years! We’d also like to acknowledge the recent emails from Veroaleli, Janet C. and others who have also made contributions to the improvement of the reference guides. Thank you!
If you spot something that should be added, may be an error, typo or hallucination , please do let us know. (If you don’t, Boomer will think everything is perfekt!) 12/20/06 Advanced collectors will want to take a close look at the coin sets recently added to the visitor auctions links. 12/27/06Gerald R. Ford is remembered. An American President who first introduced himself as "Mr. Betty Ford" and made a very nervous Boomer smile. (Picture of President Ford and Boomer, in Palm Springs many, many years ago.) 12/28/06 No new coin reports to share yet, although a few rumors of upcoming new coins have been emailed to ParkPennies over the past month or so. Boomer hopes to visit Disneyland Friday morning and will post his findings here late Friday or early Saturday. If you spot a new machine or machine change at the park, you can share the information with fellow collectors and immortalize your name here on the news page , via the contact page. 12/28/06 We are making some internal web site modifications to support future added features. (Cross your fingers! )
If any web site feature isn’t working correctly for you now, please let us know. Just enter your computer type and browser type (Internet Explorer, Firefox etc.) on our comment form. Thank you and happy collecting! 12/29/06Boomer reports 75 degree, clear weather and BIG crowds at the park. Tickets were advertised as "Sold Out" before noon. Boomer can’t figure out why so many people were there given he couldn’t find a single new penny press. 12/31/06 HAPPY NEW YEAR! From the folks at ParkPennies.
