Having served 42 years as a Disneyland Cast Member, Mr. Everett Rowlett started his well-earned retired with a party held on July 24, 2024. Although he had a wide knowledge of park machinery and equipment, pressed coin collectors will remember him as a knowledgeable Electro-Mechanical technician. He was there when the first Disney pressed coin machine was placed onstage and helped care for them for decades. You may even have witnessed him magically bring an out-of-order coin press back to life before your eyes. I did. :-) Although Everett was deaf, it didn't keep him from success in his profession or earning respect and friendships at the Disneyland Resort. This author often heard positive stories and words of praise about Everett from Bill Hogarth, one of Everett's long-time co-workers, as well as from others. Everett more than earned his place in the Tribute to Electro Mechanical Shop Cast Members.
The amazing custom pressed coins presented to Everett Rowlett at his retirement party were pressed at the Electro-Mechanical Shop by Everett's friends and co-workers. The coin's obverse features: "Everett Rowlett" at the top of center edge the horizontal coin, an image of Everett Rowlett at the center, and "42 Years of Service" and "Disneyland Resort" at the bottom center edge of the design, with a double wire band connecting the top and bottom inscriptions. The coin's reverse features: "Retired, Electro-Mechanical" text emitting bolts of electrical lightening. Next to the text, Goofy is holding a wrench and smiling. (This reverse coin die was reportedly designed and engraved by Rob Johnson of the Electro-Mechanical Shop.) The types of coins presented to Everett at the event are known to include: Pressed Copper Pennies, Nickels, Dimes, Quarters, Brass Tokens, and Copper Tokens. All were reported to be in custom printed two by two coin flips, reading "Everett's Retirement Party 2024" on the obverse and "2024 Disneyland" on the reverse. Invited retirement party attendees received pressed copper cents as keepsakes.
