Themed Pressed Pennies Make
Fun Elongated Coin Collections
Thinking about starting a collection of pressed pennies? Many collectors chose to collect pressed pennies based on a favorite theme. As longtime collectors might say, elongated coin collecting themes are as varied as the people that collect these fun, smashed, squished, pressed, souvenir penny treasures! We collect mostly Disneyland pressed pennies or as they are called by Numismatists, elongated coins, because the Disneyland Resort is close and it's easier to keep our collection up to date. However, some popular pressed penny collecting choices are from penny press machines located at zoos, museums, space centers, national or state parks, zoos, aquariums, theme restaurants, and theme parks... Many of these locations are virtual hot beds of penny crushing machines! Plus they are easy to find and fun to visit! Other pressed penny collectors look for pressed coins from penny machines located at tourist points of interest, ships, fairs... Again, most always the places that have penny press machines are places with other fun things to do with friends and family. So, no matter where you live in the United States, chances are you can build a pressed penny collection low in cost and high in fun.
Searching for hidden penny press locations is part of the fun for many collectors. Souvenir coin press machines are often found in some very unusual places. We've heard of elongated coin machines at rest stops, car dealerships and even a dental office or two! However, if you would rather not search for penny presses, there are many on-line listings of known penny press machine locations too. Penny press machine locations can be great inspiration for a family day trip or penny pressing adventure.
I've been told to keep the pressed penny collections to a minimum here. I know, that's hard to believe after reading all this! But, I did limit the penny collections on this web site to just one. I chose one of our favorite pressed penny sets to share. It's the 51 coin collection shown above which was issued by Disneyland Park and first available on May 4, 2005 from 17 three-play electric penny presses located throughout the Disneyland Resort. The entire collection was retired on the night of October 1, 2006. But, while available, each coin cost just 50 cents plus the coin to be pressed. So, the entire set cost only about $25.51. Admission to both Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure was probably needed to press most of the coins. (A shopping pass may have been available.) Other Magical Milestones penny press machines were located in the no-admission-fee resort hotel and downtown Disney areas outside the park gates. If you'd like, please visit our ParkPennies.com for more fun collections of Disneyland pressed pennies and elongated coins.
Originally, we added guide descriptions of just a few pressed pennies from only one Disney park to this web site. But, based on your feedback, (and my obsession) we've added this special collection featuring Disneyland's 50th Anniversary Magical Milestones Pressed Pennies. Many of you know I enjoy sharing coins that have been collected by us and friends over the years. So, let us know of other collection examples you'd like to see here and I'll have an excuse to add more!
Happy Collecting,
