Comparison of the Top Hat Mickey "Penny Art" or Penny-sized DN0019
and the nickel-sized DL0058 / DL0058A

These two Top Hat Mickey elongated nickel coins, if not side by side, could be easily confused. Given scarcity and values vary so widely, we offer this close up of the two coins next to each other. If you want an even closer view, please view this extreme close up picture of the DN0019 and DL0058-a. You may also find more information about these two coins in the DN Disneyland Elongated Coin Guide and the DL Disneyland Elongated Coin Guide. There is also a ParkPennies.com article about scarce coins that mentions the DN0019 and other interesting coins.

Hoff support the conclusion that these dies were engraved as penny-size in error. They were meant for use in the Disneyland nickel machine. The small penny sized die images left an unacceptable blank space at the end of the rolled coin. Corrected dies were ordered before the machine was placed on-stage. Per the best information available to us at the time of this report: It is estimated that approximately 7 Mickeys, 10 40th Anniversary and 5 Minnie’s native coin examples are believed to be in the hands of collectors. Examples also are known to exist on non-native coins. Die status is unknown.

It was pressed by the incorrectly cut DN0019 penny-sized nickel die. See also DN0019, DL0058 and DL0058a. Reported by and image courtesy of The Mark Brown Collection.
