At Last! Disneyland Framed
Pressed Penny Sets for Us!

Many Disneyana and Disneyland elongated coin collectors have long envied the framed collections of "pressed penny" coins given as retirement gifts to a very special few Disneyland Cast Members. Now, for the first time, collectors can purchase their own official framed Disneyland pressed penny set.

These are the first six souvenir pressed penny framed sets ever offered commercially by Disneyland ® Resort and could mark an entry into a new group of collectable offerings. The first sets offered were of on-stage or recently retired pressed coins feature themes of DISNEYLAND PRINCESSES, DISNEYLAND TINKER BELL, DISNEYLAND MICKEY MOUSE, DISNEYLAND LANDS and DISNEYLAND FRONTIERLAND DISNEYLAND FANTASMIC! and closed on December 1, 2004. On December 12th, 2004, a SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS framed set closed. Prices realized for this generally unexpected auction ranged from an equally unexpected low $41.00 to $127.00. Although word of these auctions spread fast once they were discovered, generally speaking, these auctions caught most potential bidders off-guard.

According to this collector’s understanding of the Disney Auctioneer’s auction copy, these pressed penny framed sets are double matted with each set featuring a descriptive engraved brass plaque and Disney Auctions certificate of authenticity (COA). Also mentioned in the auction copy,"This splendid framed presentation was developed exclusively for Disney Auctions by the Disneyland Resort". Additionally, an inquiry to the seller brought this reply: "This is an open edition item, which means there is no limit on quantities that can or will be produced." The seller has not yet confirmed the type of cents used to make the elongated coins. (One hopes copper cents will be used exclusively if future sets are issued.)

This collector welcomes what appears to be a market test of a new collectable. I also look forward to the many possible future variations that are, I’am sure, already in the hopes and minds of many "Advanced Collectors".
