The George Meyer Retirement Party
Elongated Coin Treasures
From all reports we have received, fellow Disneyland Arcade Shop Cast Members gave Mr. Meyer one great retirement party. Given just the pictures above, I don't think I need to mention George received some really neat retirement gifts at the party. We have pictured only some of the elongated coin related items and we hope to add more as readers send in more pictures.
As you can see in the picture above, there was a nickel press at the party making about the best event souvenirs any Arcade Shop Cast Member or Disneyland elongated coin collector could ask for. We are told that the nickel press was not noticed by most attendees until after a speech was made which mentioned the machine. After that, the machine got lot's of attention! Unfortunately, it jammed during the festivities and as a result the die was damaged. Luckily some coins were pressed in advance on another similar die, the DS0012. The combination of the two sources provided guests with some wonderful mementoes of the day.
Each of the two dies made a distinctly different coin image. Listed as the DS0011-a and DS0012 below you can see why they are very much alike and very different at the same time. The die that was held inside the nickel press machine at the party, we believe pressed the small grip DS0011 coins pre-party and large grip DS0011a coins at the party. Each die pressed several types of coins. The framed collection above center, based on reports to ParkPennies.com, displays examples of an elongated penny, nickel, quarter, small (locker) token and large (one dollar Mickey) token. The top right picture features framed marquee artwork and a collection of gold plated coin variations below it... with a gold plated die bottom center! Very nice!
This page is still a draft. Please don't be shy about contacting us with any pictures or information you'd like to have included. As you can see, friends of George have sent in a few pictures already, however, we can never have too many! (We are particularly looking for a small penny press picture.)

A specially marqueed single die nickel press machine held this coin die at the retirement party on January 31st, 2007. The machine was available to guests who wished to press elongated nickel souvenir mementos of the day. Two attendees estimated that about 120 coins were pressed by party guests before a jam damaged die.
Coin(s) from this die are believed to have been included in the framed set presented to George Meyer on his retirement.
