Bob Johnson's Disneyland Retirement
Diver 1, 40 Years of Magic!
Mr. Johnson was the first Disneyland Cast Member in history to be honored by three different elongated coins at his retirement. Each coin memorializes a part of his life at Disneyland. One coin offers his image with a background of Disneyland Resort, one features Diver Goofy the mascot of his diving specialty, and one features Electro Mechanical Mickey Mouse representing his family's contributions to Disneyland attractions. Each coin reverse has a special retirement backstamp "Bob Johnson" in SCUBA gear, "40 Years of Magic". All three coins were vended at his retirement party via a single three play penny press that was on-site for use by all attendees. These coins are surely some of the harder sets to find. As of this update, a full three months after the event, this author has not seen a single coin from this set offered publicly via auction, sale, or trade and very few in the hands of collectors. Possibly because attendees only pressed coins that they wished to keep as remembrances of the day.

Note: Mr. Johnson's unique profession has been the subject of newspaper articles for many years. Please read more about Mr. Johnson, and his very interesting life at Disneyland via newspaper articles and interviews available from libraries and the internet. Here, at ParkPennies.com, we are all about his cool retirement elongated coins. :-)

We hope attendees of Mr. Johnson's retirement party will continue to contact ParkPennies.com with their very welcome contributions to this page in honor of Mr. Johnson's "40 years of Magic" at the Disneyland Resort.
