Disneyland Retirement Coins
Honoring Special Cast Members
I can’t image a greater honor for a Cast Member than to have a Disneyland "pressed penny" made in their honor! A hundred years and more from now, collectors will read about and remember these special Cast Members while searching for the coins that honor their names.
Here on this page are Disneyland elongated coins gathered from the ParkPennies CM Disneyland ® Cast Member Reference Guide and DS Disneyland Arcade Shop Guide that feature Cast Members. To this date, they have been issued only as retirement gifts and mementos from friends that worked with them over the years.
CM0001 Retired Ron Dominguez
pressed penny image. RON DOMINGUEZ, Ronald K. Dominguez portrait, DISNEYLAND ® , star border.
Coin commemorates Ron Dominguez’s retirement August 31, 1994 and was the first coin ever made to celebrate the retirement of a Cast Member. For a short time around Mr. Dominguez's retirement, Cast Members could press this coin for free backstage.
No reverse.
The number of coins pressed can not be determined because the machine was free to Cast Members back stage and not metered. However, a quantity of zinc cents were pressed in advance for distribution at the retirement party. Reports to ParkPennies.com suggest the die was presented to Mr. Dominguez as one of his retirement gifts. A red handkerchief, signifying The Order of the Red Handkerchief was also presented to retirement attendees and is sometimes found accompanying the Cast Member pressed penny. (This Disneyland pressed coin number made with the possibly now canceled#CMS0001.0.0 obverse elongated coin die in its original "0" state / variation, paired with a blank "0" reverse coin die.) Of special interest.... Retired "Scott & Tracey, Wilson Family Finally 6-5-5" This early Arcade shop engraving features a wedding cake. (Married when they met again, 25 years after they were high school sweethearts.) Made by the Arcade Shop to memorialize the wedding of a good friend and longtime Arcade Shop Cast Member, on his wedding June 5, 2005.
Most were pressed without stampbacks, about three coins featured a Magical Milestones Reverse.
Approximately 50 coins were pressed in total, mostly on brass planchets (believed to be tokens), including around 15 quarters and a few smaller image cents.
