Disneyland Resort, Paris has offered some unexpected elongated coins. It is currently the only Disney resort outside of the United States that has offered actual pressed coins rather than planchet (slug) based medals as are currently offered at other locations outside the United States. Even more unusual is that coins pressed at Disney's Sequoia Lodge Hotel in France were United States cents, yes, US pennies pressed in France! The only other location, on Disneyland Resort Paris property known to have elongated coins is the Rainforest Cafe in the Disney Village. At the time of this writing, the French RFC has two very nice four-play "penny" press hand-crank machines that press EURO five-cent coins!
As of this writing in 2007, we have recorded only four penny press machines as being on Disneyland Resort, Paris, property. They are the two three-play machines at the Sequoia and the two four-play five-cent Euro hand-cranks at the Rainforest Cafe. We have no record or report of any machines ever being inside the gates of the park. Of the four machines that were on-property, the two penny press machines at the Sequoia Lodge were removed after a relatively short stay. (Possibly to another location in France, we do not know for sure.) That leaves DLRP with just the two machines at the Rainforest Cafe which is located in Disney Village, a shopping area similar to the Downtown Disney centers in the United States. In a futile attempt to keep some degree of sanity in our guide prefix system, these coins have the prefix of DLRP for Disneyland Resort Paris, a common abbreviation for the resort. Please keep in mind that all these coins are from the "Resort Area", outside the gates. If in the future, elongated coins are issued from inside a gate etc., a separate prefix will used to keep coins outside the park separate from coins inside the park or "behind the gates" as we do for Disneyland, Anaheim with "DLR" for Disneyland Resort Hotels and Downtown Disney, "DL" for Disneyland and "CA" for Disney's California Adventure.
