The Tokyo DisneySea
TDS0509 Type I and Type II Medals

(Often called Pressed Penny or Elongated Coin)

We hope the images above and the ParkPennies.com TDS Tokyo DisneySea Guide sections below will help collectors identify / differentiate these coins or medals as they are called in Japan. Type II has a stronger more rounded "R" in ARIEL and Baby Ariel's hair has a more defined brow. There are other small differences in the way the engraving interprets the same art. When holding the two coins side by side, details in depth and execution of images are more pronounced. When trying to attribute a single coin: The "R" is probably the best indicator of the type II replacement die vs. the original. The type I original die offers a large tick centered just above Ariel's tail and a small tick just below the heart shaped bubble near the grip notch of the coin.
