Examples of Disneyland PNC and Postcard
"Wannabe" Elongated Coins

Cross collectibles can be rare finds. Philatelic Numismatic Combinations, PNC’s, sometimes contain Disneyland elongated coin gems! The pictures above are examples of some PNC’s that were issued featuring Disneyland "Wannabe" coins. Most of these coins have become quite sought after, not to mention valuable. Even though they may not be genuine "©Disney", they are Disneyland themed / associated with The Disneyland Resort. Matter of fact, the Pan Art postcard elongated coin is considered to be the first elongated coin ever associated with Disneyland! Even though it’s a WannaBe, It’s date of issue, 1970, is hard to beat. Predating even the Disney DN0001, Mickey Mouse Rays Prototype coin. One of the few times old age is an advantage. There are also three "e" for Eurolink replaces the dot nearest the center of the gripper slot. Gunther PNC’s commemoratives shown above. They are Disneyland’s 35th Birthday, Mickey’s 60th Birthday and Snow White’s 50th. The Disneyland 35th and Mickey Mouse 60th share the same DW0007, Mickey’s 60th Birthday coin. (As do some other "e" for Eurolink replaces the dot nearest the center of the gripper slot. Gunther PNC’s not shown.) When a single coin is shared by several PNC’s, The Guide will list the coin only once and it is given a single number because there was just one die. There is also an "e" for Eurolink replaces the dot nearest the center of the gripper slot. Gunther Snow White 50th PNC shown. It features Snow White and the seven dwarfs all on the same coin!It was issued for the 50TH ANNIVERSARY of Snow White, the animated Disney motion picture, in 1987. As you can see, the Snow White PNC is much like the Mickey Mouse PNC’s in design and was also issued with coin denominations of penny, nickel, dime, and quarter. Yes, I have a scan of the penny for you here: DW0005. Values are all over for these PNC’s ranging from about $20.00 up to a few hundred dollars each. The nickel, dime and quarter Mickey Mouse 60th are at the higher end of the range with the Pan Art postcard and Mickey Mouse 60th zinc cent still today’s bargains in my humble opinion.

First elongated coin to be associated with Disneyland. A convention of the Society of Philatelists and Numismatics was held at the Disneyland Hotel. Commemorating this event an elongated penny was attached to a Disneyland Hotel post card, stamped with a SPAN logo,given a 5-cent stamp, hand canceled and sent to convention participants. Each PNC was serial numbered. Approximately 500 made. |
