2004 was an usually good year for Disneyland pressed coin collectors. Guest at the Disneyland Resort, Anaheim, California were treated to the first elongated coin stampbacks or "reverses" ever at any Disney Resort. Introduced on a flagship elongated coin, the Main Street USA pressed nickel, the simple in design reverse read only "DISNEYLAND ® PARK" in a course "dot matrix" style print.

It was a hit! Often guests were surprised to see an image on both sides of the coin; some collected two coins so that one could be used to display the reverse in their pressed penny collections. Many of the guests that had casually collected pressed pennies at other theme parks, museums, and other places, were delighted to see the "extra" reverse. Something extra, something special, same price!

The tradition carries on. Most all coins placed in the park today, follow in the tradition of the 2004 Main Street USA elongated nickel. The feature stampbacks. Some with character names such as Mickey, Minnie, Jack Skellington or attraction names such as Splash Mountain. All can be fun to collect. Matter of fact, collecting Disneyland stampbacks is a fun specialty. We've even started a few different reverse guide pages at the request of collectors.

DL0251 Retired Main Street USA small grip pressed nickel or elongated coin image. The DL0251, DL0251a, DL0380 and DL0408, all share the same obverse coin die. However, there are differences in coin grips and stampbacks. The DL0251 with an enhanced coin grip is a DL0251a; add a new reverse and you have the DL0380; change the reverse again and you have the DL0408. This coin is was the first elongated Disney coin in the world to feature a stampback and is a part of the "Lands Set". It replaced Lady and the Tramp DL0127. DL0251-251a "DISNEYLAND ® PARK" pressed nickel stampback. DL0251-251a Horizontal pressed nickel reverse image. "DISNEYLAND ® PARK". Dot matrix style lettering. This is the very first "stampback" or reverse ever at any Disney park. First issued on the DL0251 and later on the DL0251a. This "dot matrix" very early style reverse reads "Disneyland ® Park". On November 12th, 2006, this die set was taken off-stage and returned November 15th 2006 as DL0380 with a new backstamp or reverse of DISNEYLAND ® RESORT. DL0264r back stamp DISNEYLAND® RESORT Reverse Close-up. DL0264 Horizontal pressed penny reverse reads "DISNEYLAND ® RESORT" in an early "dot matrix" style of printing / engraving. This die was a single replacement in the Autopia Gas Pump themed penny press set of three dies. Although the DL0264 coin was onstage for only about four months, a reverse was added. (The "A" and "B" button carry over coins were left unchanged, with blank backs.) A very nice gesture that did not go unnoticed by pressed penny collectors that both preserved the existing coins as well as offering a reverse for the new coin.
