The following background information on Souvenir Pressed Coins was developed by David Tomita and is presented here with his permission. Dave maintains the Disneyland Penny Press Guide and can be reached at: david@pharm.medsch.ucla.edu

The Souvenir Pressed Coins Machines will imprint a design (press) on your penny for two quarters (51 cents a piece) and also a quarter for three quarters ($1.00 a piece). This is probably one of the least expensive souvenirs, unless you want to collect all of them!

David offers the following tips:

Depending on what penny you use, you may get a smear of zinc (silver looking metal). In 1982, pennies were made with both copper and zinc. Suggest you use pre-1982 pennies.

You might want to get the design pressed onto the "face" of the penny because the "tail" side sometimes leaves parts of the monument and you end up with an incomplete image.

Generally, if you insert the penny so that the "face" side is to the right, that is the side that will be pressed with the design. Also the quarter to the far left tends to be the quarter that gets pressed in Quarter Presses.

A total of 21 machines at the MK, producing a total of 59 coins (56 pennies and 3 quarters) producing 52 unique penny images and 3 unique quarter images (2 of the quarter images are the same as 2 of the penny images) [4 duplicate penny images].

25th Anniversary

SPECIAL 25TH ANNIVERSARY PRESSED COINS

As of October 1, 1996 there are special 25th anniversary quarter press machines located at various resorts at WDW. There are 12 different designs, a different one at each resort. The machines take 5 quarters with one quarter being pressed. The sign on the machines said that the presses will be destroyed after December 31, 1997. Each of the designs have a 25 on them also.
