The Good Old Days of Disneyland Pressed Pennies...

Snow White Pressed PennyThe Vintage Disneyland pressed pennies from 1987-2005 often featured iconic original well-defined, high relief images, location related themes, and neat collectable sets. Here I've displayed one collectable set, the Vintage Snow White set. It's one of the many fun sets that have been offered at Disneyland Park over the years. It's not the only Snow White pressed penny set ever onstage. But, just take a look at the quality of these coins! Not only do they have a terrific Disney theme, but, I'd say the engraving is some of the best that has ever been at the Original Theme Park. These coins were hand engraved by Mr. Jimmy Vargas, the Master Engraver at Eurolink Design Inc. Many people have said that he made the name for Disneyland in the elongated coin world. When lesser locations offered flat, poorly done pressed coins with little detail, these gems were waiting for guests at Disneyland. His work and the unique art chosen for the elongated coins of this era, is often credited for the success of these early "Disney Quality" elongated coins.

Although the original set of Snow White pressed pennies were retired years ago, you can still spot them for sale or trade now and then. It could be a bit of a scavenger hunt. But, chances are you'll have a lot of fun doing it! When you're done, you'll have a really nice set of pressed pennies that will remind you of the adventure and nostalgia of pressed pennies. Maybe frame them? Well, I'm getting a bit gabby again. So, let me close in saying I think the Snow White pressed penny set makes one of the many great mini Disney collections, even including the Wicked Witch. :-) Related: Snow White Movie Premier 1937 pressed coins

Related: There are a lot of really nice "mini collections" you can look them over in this DL Disneyland pressed penny guide, this Pressed Penny Collection Index, or this link for a lot more Disneyland Penny Press Machine Coin Collections, some from other Disneyland Resorts around the world.

Editor's note: We are often reminded that the preferred numismatic term is "Elongated Coins". However, as the rebellious, risk taking, devil may care ParkPennies.com contributors that we are, temptation often gets the better of us. As a result, you may see the more casual, terms like: stamped coins, pressed coins, pressed nickels, pressed dimes, pressed quarters, smashed pennies, flattened pennies, crushed pennies, squashed pennies, rolled pennies, mashed pennies, stamped pennies, smushed pennies, stretched pennies, memory pennies, keepsake pennies, flattened pennies, and souvenir coin medallions to describe these fun pressed coin souvenirs. :-) Here are some pages about the often asked questions of How many pressed coins are at Disney? and How much do pressed coins cost? Happy Collecting, Boomer

Just for fun, here is a page with a bit of a different take on Pressed Coins Facts and Fiction with tips on how different coins press, cool pressed coin jewelry, early penny presses...
