VoluntEars Haiti elongated nickel
Larger pressed nickel image in
frame or window # 1 2 3
DO0011 Vertical elongated nickel DISNEYLAND, Fireman Mickey Mouse in fireman's protective suit, ax in hand, © DISNEY, no border. Replaced the CM0029, same obverse die with larger backstamp. First backstage 3/26/10 removed from last location around 5/7/10.
Backstamp: Small Type II Mickey Mouse classic pose, Disney VoluntEars, DISNEY -small ABC logo- ESPN.
Before this machine was moved to Company D on 4/9/10, it was available inside the Disneyland Resort, to Cast Members only. Therefore this set of coins was first listed in the Disneyland Cast Member and Special Events elongated coin guide as CM0032, CM0033, and CM0034.
We do not think this three dimensional engraving was done by Eurolink or in house at the Disneyland Arcade Shop.
This machine moved from location to location. Nickels baring this new, smaller backstamp were first located backstage near the Eat-Ticket Restaurant, Team Disney Anaheim, (Disneyland), on 3/26/10. On about 4/2/10 the machine was moved to a new backstage location, The DCA Cafe, in Disney's California Adventure. On about 4/9/10 the machine was found outside the park just inside the entrance to Company D, the Disneyland Cast Members' store. Cast Members and polite members of the general public were permitted to press coins at this location until around 5/7/10.
The three die nickel press was placed by Disney VoluntEars Fund to support American Red Cross Disaster Relief, Haiti, just after the Haiti earthquake. Robert Hoff of ParkPennies.com was told by trusted sources that the cost of a pressed nickel in this set, at all locations, was a donation of 25 cents or more up to $1.25 plus the nickel to be pressed.

backstamp
Larger pressed nickel image in
frame or window # 1 2 3
DO0011-DO0013 and CM0032-34 Horizontal elongated nickel backstamp. Small Type II Mickey Mouse classic pose, Disney VoluntEars, fairly clear "DISNEY -small ABC logo- ESPN". Shorter, smaller image when compared to the earlier CM0029-31 backstamp.
This backstamp or reverse image is shared by the CM0032, CM0033, and CM0034 in this three coin set. However, each coin has a slightly different reverse image as each coin has a separate and slightly unique backstamp engraving.
Originally located backstage near the Eat-Ticket Restaurant Team Disney Anaheim, (Disneyland) on 3/26/10. This smaller Type II backstamp replaced the larger Type I CM0029-31 backstamp when the nickel press machine was moved from The Harbor Point Team Center to the Eat-Ticket Restaurant at TDA and the machine locations that followed.

Editor's note: We are often reminded that the preferred numismatic term is "Elongated Coins". However, as the rebellious, risk taking, devil may care ParkPennies.com contributors that we are, temptation often gets the better of us. As a result, you may see the more casual, fun terms like: pressed pennies, flattened pennies, crushed pennies, squashed pennies, rolled pennies, mashed pennies, smashed pennies, stamped pennies, squished pennies, smushed pennies, stretched pennies, memory pennies, keepsake pennies, flat pennies, and souvenir medallions to describe these fun penny souvenirs. |
