Ariel from Disneyland Park and
Ariel from The World of Disney... Twins!?

Ariel, World of Disney, Guide Number DR0081.Ariel, Disneyland Park, Guide Number DL0124Twins? One, the Ariel vintage pressed penny from inside the Disneyland park, guide number DL0124, and the other, an Ariel pressed penny from just outside the Disneyland park, at the World of Disney in Downtown Disney, guide number DR0081. They do look the same, right? But, longtime users of our guides will recognize a "DL" prefix indicates that the coin was from a machine located inside the gates of the Disneyland Park, Anaheim and a "DR" prefix indicates the coin was from a machine outside the Disneyland Park gates, with the numbers following the prefixes indicate the chronological order in which the coins were placed onstage. So, there are two?

Can I hear you snoring? Bare with me here, I'll try to bring this all together... I've given the what, when, and where... maybe the why and how will be really good!? As you know, many readers of ParkPennies.com collect every single Disneyland Resort coin, period. PERIOD! Not a problem. But, some readers specialize in collecting only coins from one park or location. Say for instance coins that can be accessed without paying admission, the "DR" elongated coins. Others might collect only the coins from inside Disneyland Park "DL" coins, the California Adventure "CA" coins... etc. ZZZzzzzZZzzz

Sorry... now even I'm snoring! Okay, a point? Once in a great while, a machine is moved from one guide location to another. Say for instance from inside the Disneyland Park to the World of Disney, like the Ariel coin in this example. When that happens, the people that collect coins only from inside the park, must have one for their "DL" collection and the folks that collect only "DR" coins must have one for their collections too. So that's why a coin might be listed as part of both collections and how and why we assign the numbers.

Of course, if you are a collector of all coins from the Disneyland Resort, you really need just one of these coins for a complete collection. After all, the two coins are really from the same machine, just two locations, right (?) Okay, let's be honest, if you are like me, you'll probably want two, one for each section of your collection, twins! Happy Collecting, Boomer

SEASONS GREETINGS 1996, Sleeping Beauty Castle, © DISNEY, "e" for Eurolink Design Corporation replaces the dot nearest the center of the gripper slot, DISNEYLAND ® , dot border. First on-stage around November 23, 1996. Retired January 1997. Editor's note: We are often reminded that the preferred numismatic term is "Elongated Coins". However, as the rebellious, risk taking, devil may care ParkPennies.com contributors that we are, temptation often gets the better of us. As a result, you may see the more casual, terms like: stamped coins, pressed coins, pressed nickels, pressed dimes, pressed quarters, smashed pennies, flattened pennies, crushed pennies, squashed pennies, rolled pennies, mashed pennies, stamped pennies, smushed pennies, stretched pennies, memory pennies, keepsake pennies, flattened pennies, and souvenir coin medallions to describe these fun pressed coin souvenirs. :-) Here are some pages about the often asked questions of How many pressed coins are at Disney? and How much do pressed coins cost? Just for fun, here is a page with a bit of a different take on Pressed Coins Facts and Fiction with tips on how different coins press, cool pressed coin jewelry, early penny presses... Happy Collecting! Boomer and the folks at ParkPennies.com :-)
