DW0003 Horizontal elongated coin or pressed penny image. QUALITY HOTEL ACROSS FROM DISNEYLAND ANAHEIM, dot border. The machine was located across the street from the main Harbor Boulevard entrance to Disneyland in the Quality Hotel circa 1986 to 1988. Due to the similarity between this coin and DW0002, it is thought that both machines were owned by the same individual/organization, Eurolink Design, and placed in operation and removed about the same time. Off-denomination elongated coins are known to exist. |

DW0004 Horizontal elongated coin or pressed penny image. HOLIDAY INN - ANAHEIM ACROSS FROM DISNEYLAND, castle rooftops and flags. This coin, is believed to have been pressed by a single die Centek machine located inside an arcade room at the Holiday Inn Hotel (later operating under the names of Radison Hotel and then The Red Lyon Hotel) at 1850 South Harbor Blvd. Anaheim, CA., near the intersection of Harbor Boulevard and Katella Ave., across from Disneyland circa 1986-1988.
Low foot traffic at the location and limited machine in service time may be why the coin is not often seen today. Pictured is wide grip variation, small grip variation is known. Off-denomination elongated coins are known to exist. |

Also known by some collectors of Mr. Dillard's well known coins as catalog number DIL-440. Mr. Dillard, the roller of this coin, wishes to make it clear that this DW0017 nickel is a test coin, not meant as a rarity.
According to research and an interview by Don B., with Ray Dillard, the well known TEC coin roller, two nickels were the first coins rolled to test the 1995 TEC badge die. The smaller diameter coins were used to determine if engraving was done in line. Based on the test, Mr. Dillard determined that the die was engraved correctly and started to roll the Badge Design. Discovery and image courtesy of the Don B. collection.
This die was rolled on clad quarters for coin sets; on clad
and silver quarters for convention badges. Also on half dollars
and seven were rolled on Polish coins.

According to research and an interview by Don B., with Ray Dillard, the well known TEC coin roller, there were two Badges Enameled that were on 1995 Clad Quarters. They were rolled as test coins to see how they would turn out compared to the silver quarters that had been used in years past. Ultimately, use of the silver quarters was continued because of the way they enhanced the enameled colors. Also known by some collectors of Mr. Dillard's well known coins as catalog number DIL-440. Editor's note: We are often reminded that the preferred numismatic term is "Elongated Coins". However, as the rebellious, risk taking, devil may care ParkPennies.com contributors that we are, temptation often gets the better of us. As a result, you may see the more casual, fun terms like: pressed pennies, flattened pennies, crushed pennies, squashed pennies, rolled pennies, mashed pennies, smashed pennies, stamped pennies, squished pennies, smushed pennies, stretched pennies, memory pennies, keepsake pennies, flat pennies, and souvenir medallions to describe these fun penny souvenirs. |
