12/31/13 For the New Year, we've updated our Android and Apple home screen icon. Now when you bookmark www.ParkPennies.com or any page on the web site, with your Chrome or other modern browser, the new icon will be available for the bookmark and / or your home screen. With that icon, the most current ParkPennies.com Machine Location page (PDF), ParkPennies Penny Press New page... is just a single click away. Plus... You'll have a picture of a beautiful pressed penny adorning your smartphone! :-) Happy New Year and Happy Collecting, Boomer and the folks at ParkPennies.com.

12/22/13 As a complement to our new Disneyland Tokens Guide, we have added a MouseCar Moola variations page. If you have additional tokens / variations not already listed, please let us know. Happy collecting, Boomer.

12/12/13 Ricky K. shared new locations for the Downtown Disney four play hand crank penny press machines. The AMC machine has been moved to the left of the front doors of the Apricot Lane store and the D Street machine (Vinylmation) is across from the Lego store right of the Monorail entrance. Rumor has it that the old locations were impeding traffic. We'll update the world's most accurate :-) Penny Press Locations Page today.

11/16/13 The ever growing collection of Walt Disney Imagineering Pressed Penny pins has been updated with the latest six new pins. The WDI pins collection is made up of over 50 pins now, each a limited edition of 250. Most are themed after Disneyland Resort elongated coins (DL, DR, and CA Guide Elongated Coins) with a few from Walt Disney World and a few styled after error or prototype elongated coins that were never onstage (DN Guide Elongated Coins).

11/14/13 New Pressed Pennies! Two Disneyland penny press machines have new stampbacks! The Westward Ho pin shop machine near the shooting gallery in Frontierland and the Winnie the Pooh penny press in Critter Country. We have samples of the coins and hope to have images and a guide update soon. Our thanks to Mike R. for the report. UPDATE

11/15/13: Two recent reports from the park state that the Westward Ho Trading Post penny press machine is "offstage for servicing". However, the Tigger, Winnie The Pooh and Roo machine is onstage just outside the Winnie The Pooh Shop in Critter Country. Details and pictures have been added to the ParkPennies Disneyland Pressed Penny Guide, numbers DL0553-558 and the ParkPennies Penny Press Machine Locations page (PDF). Happy collecting, Boomer,

11/12/13 Are you checking this page hoping to find news that the 2013 Holiday Nickels have arrived? I am! :-) So, are the 2013 Holiday nickels here yet??? No. But, we've haven't heard any rumors that they won't arrive as "usual". According to the ParkPennies Holiday Pressed Nickels collection page, over the past 18 years, the "usual" arrival time has been from early November to early January, with most arrivals from mid-November to mid-December. So, chances are we'll see a new nickel press machine or two at the park(s) soon.
For timely penny press updates, be sure to bookmark this page and / or "Like" the ParkPennies FaceBook page... If you don't see an update, please keep in mind that we try (not always successfully :-) to keep our posts both welcome and informative. To that end, we keep posts to a minimum here and especially on our FaceBook Page. So, if a day or two or even four passes without a post, don't think we've forgotten. We're at the park checking for new machines often and we especially welcome your email reports and the opportunity to share them here. (With name credit for the first ParkPennies reader to report a new machine. :-) Happy Collecting!

10/18/13 New Pressed Pennies! New Disneyland Hotel pressed penny set! The Goofy's Kitchen penny press machine has returned after a short absence with three new pressed penny dies! One pressed penny features Mickey, one Goofy, and one Stitch! As all other elongated coins in the Disneyland Resort Area Guide, this penny press machine can be accessed and used without the need to pay admission to either theme park. And the first three hours of parking is free at the DownTown Disney parking lot. We hope to update *updated 10/18/13* the Disneyland Resort Area guide soon with pictures and guide numbers. Happy Collecting! Boomer and the folks at ParkPennies.com.

10/09/13 New Pressed Pennies! New pressed penny set in the Grand Californian Hotel and Spa lobby! As regular readers will recall, The Acorn Gift Shop penny press machine went missing a while back and was later spotted in the Grizzly Arcade, an area reserved for the lucky folks with Grand Californian Hotel room keys... then it was gone again for a short time. Well, on October 7, 2013 it reappeared in front of the Acorn Gift Shop with a NEW set of three pressed pennies! (Our thanks to Mike R. for his report.) We updated the Disneyland Resort Hotels Pressed Penny Guide on 10/11.
Our thanks for your kind words of support, sympathy, and condolences while we've tried to spruce up this aging nostalgic old school style reference site. :-) Do let us know if when you spot any bugs; we'll do our best to hide them. :-) Happy Collecting, Boomer and the folks at ParkPennies.

09/25/13 We've added more tokens to the new ParkPennies.com Disney Tokens Guide. This guide is new, and just a start at a guide to these fun, inexpensive collectibles. (See: The cost of Disney Pressed Coins.) We hope, with the help of readers, this guide will grow over time. Please contact Boomer if / whenever you have additional token images or information to share with fellow collectors. Happy Collecting, Boomer and the folks at ParkPennies.

09/23/13 Before you panic... :-) Yes, we've spruced up a few pages at ParkPennies! But the good stuff is still here. Dozens of links that were listed down the left side of the page are in drop down menus under pictures of the link's related park coin. A long list of frequently visited pages is also available in a drop down menu near the left hand top of the page. And... the good old top links and Google search box are still at the very top of the page. We hope you'll like the changes.... But, as regular visitors are more than aware, The ParkPennies folks are much better at posting news than computer programming. So please send us your feedback about this test page. Let us know what you like and what you'd like to see added or changed. After all, ParkPennies.com is for you, our friends and fellow collectors. Happy Collecting, Boomer.

09/19/13 As of around 10:00 a.m. 9/18, the AMC Theater hand crank penny press was still jammed. However, when we left the park around 3:00 p.m. the machine was working great. Our thanks to Steve who reported that the Acorn Gift Shop penny press was moved to the Grizzly Arcade. The new location is accessible only by hotel guest key. The machine's coins have not changed since the machine was moved to the new location. (We have updated the pressed penny guide page with an image of the penny press machine at the new location.) UPDATE: The machines have been working great lately.

09/15/13 Afternoon Our thanks to Ricky K. for reporting that the Disney AMC Theater machine is still out of order. This machine appears to be serviced by an outside company. We hope to report it is working soon. If you have an update to share, please contact Boomer.

09/14/13 New Pressed Pennies! Our thanks to a longtime ParkPennies.com contributor, Lou S., for reporting the arrival of the two rumored DownTown Disney hand crank machines. The machines are four die outdoor stand-alone design. (Be ready to do some cranking!) One is located near the Anaheim DownTown Disney AMC Theater and the other near Vinylmation across from the Tortilla Jo's restaurant. As of late Saturday, the machine in front of the Disney AMC Theater was not working. It accepted quarters but rejected the accompanying cent. :-( We hope to report the machine up and running soon. We'll update the ParkPennies.com Pressed Penny guides as soon as we have scans of all eight coins. Happy collecting, Boomer and the folks at ParkPennies.

09/14/13 ParkPennies.com readers have emailed us looking for the 30th Anniversary VoluntEARS pressed penny set. Currently all three coins are separately listed on eBay by a well known seller. Here is are links to view the VoluntEARS auctions and other auctions by fellow ParkPennies readers.

09/02/13 We just added 18 coin images to complement our most recently reported 18 Hong Kong Disneyland pressed souvenirs. :-)
Happy collecting, Boomer and the folks at ParkPennies.

08/26/13 As per the Disneyland Pressed Penny Guides, the returning Starcade token press machines now press cents. Please note that although the Wreck It Ralph and Tron machines have pressed cents before, the Space Mountain 35th Anniversary coin press machine is now pressing cents for the first time. -No obverse or reverse coin design changes were made, only changes in the type of coin / token that is accepted by the machine and pressed. Our thanks to the well known Disney elongated coin collector, Mark B. for suggesting we post a note about the change here on the news page.

08/26/13 Our thanks to Oded Paz and The Elongated Collectors Organization for the honor of awarding us the 2013 TEC Presidential Merit Award for "Maintaining the web site ParkPennies.com providing a great service to collectors of Disney ec's". We have been proud members of TEC since the 1990s and thank TEC for many good friends and fun memories over the years. ParkPennies has a link for information about joining TEC, the popular TEC Newsletter and more. Happy collecting, Boomer.

8/22/13 Our thanks to Rich C. for sharing news with us that the Starcade "token" presses have returned, now pressing pennies. (UPDATE 8/26/13: Please note this is the first time the Space Mountain 35th Anniversary set has been been offered on pressed cents as detailed in the Disneyland Pressed Penny Guide.) Many collectors liked the pressed tokens. I wish Disneyland could have kept them, maybe with new dies and larger images. Hopefully collectors that wanted these first of a kind souvenirs pressed them already. The ParkPennies Pressed Penny Machine Location Page and our guides have been updated. Happy collecting, Boomer.

08/21/13 An earlier post mentioned new WDI Pressed Penny Pins were reported at the D23 Convention... Well you know Boomer couldn't wait to acquire the new pins and update the Pressed Penny Pin Page for you. Yes, ParkPennies.com has a Pin Page! What is this world coming to? :-) No, seriously we haven't lost our focus, most of these neat pins were modeled after really cool Disneyland elongated coins. So we know many fellow advanced pressed penny collectors will want to collect them. Of course, a comprehensive guide is important to building a complete collection. We hope you'll find the ParkPennies Reference Listing of all Pressed Penny Pins a useful and welcome addition to our pressed penny guides.
Most importantly, our thanks to you for "Like-ing" our ParkPennies FaceBook page! We've nearly reached the 500 "Likes" mark! Your visits and sharing our humble site with your friends via links and posts has made it all happen. Thank you very much for your support and Happy Collecting, Boomer.

08/10/13 A new WDI Wreck It Ralph themed set of six "Pressed Penny Pins" was just released! We'll be adding them to the WDI Pressed Penny Page as soon as we have a set in hand for scanning.

08/07/13 D23 Pressed Pennies? Sorry, not this year. But, needless to say, many Disneyland Cast Members are fellow pressed penny fans too. Over the years we have seen them make great efforts to support this wonderful hobby. So, do let them know we appreciate their efforts and hope they'll have a D23 coin press at the next D23 event. I know, we just did, but... :-) Happy collecting, Boomer.

08/02/13 Many readers have asked the status of the three token presses at the Starcade. As longtime readers will recall, three penny press machines were converted to pressing quarter-sized arcade tokens and placed at the Starcade in Tomorrowland on February 2, 2013. (News post below) They were exceptionally popular. However, on about July 16, 2013, they were taken offstage. We noted the machines on The ParkPennies Pressed Penny Machine Location Page as "Missing". Since then, there has been speculation that the machines might return with new larger image dies or that the machines have been retired after having a very busy last few months pressing 75 cent tokens for happy collectors. So far, we only have rumors, but, will post updates, as they become available, here. When you have news to share, please contact Boomer.

08/01/13 Could be of interest if you own penny presses or collect pressed pennies? ;-) ... The good folks at Coin Update have a bit more information about the:
"H.R. 1719 Cents and Sensibility Act [Coin Update coverage] The bill seeks to immediately alter the composition of the cent, nickel, dime, and quarter to American steel. In the last Congress, separate bills had been introduced seeking to change the composition of only the cent and nickel to steel". ParkPennies has a small collection of links to articles at the bottom of this page about "The Future of United States Coinage" and here is a link to a PDF copy of Bill HR1719, Cents and Sensibility Act as reintroduced on April 24, 2013.

08/01/13 New Pressed Pennies! Tiki Room 50th Anniversary pressed penny set! It's located in the Raja's Mint penny press at the Bazaar in Adventureland, Disneyland USA! We've already updated the Disneyland Pressed Penny Machine Location Page and the Disneyland Pressed Penny Guide Page. Happy collecting! New Tiki Room 50th Pressed Penny Set!

Tiki Room 50th pressed penny07/22/2013 New Pressed Pennies!New stampbacks for the Mickey, Bellhop Goofy and Goofy's Kitchen pressed penny set at the Disneyland Hotel! This machine and the Ratatouille machine next to it both have new stampbacks now and were working great. 07/17/2013 New Pressed Pennies! After a short absence, The Acorn Gift Shop penny press has returned with new Grand California Hotel & Spa stampbacks! We've already updated the Disneyland Resort Area Pressed Penny Guide and the Disneyland Pressed Penny Machine Location Page. Happy collecting, Boomer.
ParkPennies.com Guides cover All Tokyo Disneyland Resort pressed pennies over the first 15 years of issue.

06/23/2013 For many ParkPennies readers a new pressed penny find is a great excuse to visit the park, share the news here with fellow collectors and start looking for the next new coin. But, most ParkPennies readers are a long distance from the park or understandably find DLR admission prices and travel costs a luxury reserved only for very special occasions. So, I thought we'd post a few fun, sometimes overlooked, alternative ways to collect Disneyland elongated coins for those new to Disneyland pressed coin collecting.
If you have transportation to the Disneyland Resort- Don't forget all the Disneyland Resort Hotels, Downtown Disney, and Nearby Disney Themed pressed coins listed in the Disneyland Penny Press Locations Page can be pressed without paying admission. Parking is also free at the Downtown Disney parking lot for three hours and pressed pennies only cost 51 cents! A visit to DTD can be a fun time for an avid collector or an entire family, if you are on a budget or not. :-) Downtown Disney has lots of neat stores too. Like The World of Disney... that has penny press machines! :-) There are also lots of places to have a snack or lunch like the Rain Forest Cafe... that has penny press machines! :-) Or White Water Snacks, a sort of hidden casual place to eat at the Grand Californian Hotel, one of Boomer's favorite places to have a Coke or some Nachos.... and it's not far from the penny press machine at the Acorn Gift Shop! :-) Oh, don't forget that if you visit Downtown Disney after work or school, there is often free outdoor entertainment in the evening, especially on weekends. Fun!
You can also collect via your desktop or smartphone without leaving your home (0r office :-) - Online "Yahoo Groups", The Elongated Collectors Organization, and other web sites listed on our Fun Pressed Penny Links page offer a great way to meet fellow collectors, trade elongated coins and talk about collecting without leaving your home. Also, don't overlook the sometimes remarkable Disneyland elongated coins offered on eBay. We have personally found coins auctioned by fellow collectors as well as non collectors that we may otherwise never been able to acquire. Needless to say, it's more fun to win that bargain auction than to hear about it from someone else. :-) So, we have a page that lists Disneyland Pressed Penny Auctions by fellow collectors. The ParkPennies.com "staff" doesn't have any coins for sale on this list, but, we sure check it often. ;-)
I can't believe it! I was only going to post a sentence or two...! Happy collecting, Boomer and the Folks at ParkPennies.

06/01/2013 Our thanks to Jeanne who recently reported that the VoluntEARS 30th Anniversary machine is backstage in a Cast Member only area and now presses nickels. Pressed pennies with the 30th Anniversary logo stampbacks were offered at the May 1st, 2013 30th Anniversary Event. No change in the coin has been reported other than the denomination pressed. The Disneyland Cast Member and Special Events elongated coin guide has been updated with images of the new pressed nickels.

05/30/2013 Bryan in Hong Kong reports that all HKDL Magical Coin pressed penny machines have increased the cost of a Magical Coin from 10 Hong Kong Dollars to 15 Hong Kong Dollars. (Now about $2.00 USD each.) Read more on our HKDL Magical Coin news page.

05/23/2013 New Pressed Pennies! New Disneyland Hotel themed stampbacks have been added to the Ratatouille pressed penny set at the Disneyland Hotel. Guide numbers and pictures will be added to the Disneyland Resort Pressed Penny Guide shortly. These coins, can be pressed without paying admission to the park, as can all "DR" Disneyland Resort Guide listed coins. Our thanks to the Anony-mouse reporter.

New Disneyland Hotel themed pressed penny stampback05/22/2013 A very longtime collector, known by many early Disneyland elongated coin collectors, has placed some of his coins up for sale by private auction on his Disneyana web site, www.cs-collectibles.com. These coins are not listed on eBay... you might spot a coin you are looking for? Here's the link to his Disney elongated coin sale. Happy collecting, Boomer.

05/14/2013 The good folks at DisneyPostCards.com just sent a most welcome email talking about the 1970 Disneyland Resort Pan Art Postcard. You know, the one that features the earliest known Disneyland related elongated coin! Well, I checked out their Disney Post Cards web site and thought you would want too also. Be careful, I think it would be easy to catch the Disney postcard collecting bug.... if you haven't already. :-)

05/11/2013 Our "Just the Facts", abridged, travel-sized version of the entire ParkPennies Disneyland Resort pressed penny guide, is linked on this left side of this page. The file has been here for years, but was even harder to find than it is now. :-) As you may know, the "Just the Facts" guide is a single Excel file, easily modifiable for personal, non-commercial use, and covers all Disneyland Resort Guide elongated coins from 1987 to 2013 as updated. Because the guide has no pictures and very brief descriptions, it's great for quick reference, want lists, trade lists, notes, etc. And, because it's an Excel file, it can be converted into Word docs, labels, indexes, etc. Enjoy!
As always, if you wish to republish any ParkPennies content / properties or use them in a way not already granted by the generous ParkPennies.com Terms of Use, just email Boomer usually we enthusiastically grant permissions.

05/04/2013 We've updated the Duffy Pressed Penny Guide with six new coins.
5/04/2013 Our thanks to the well known collectors John and Nancy that shared with us that the machines that have been behind construction walls at the exit to the Lincoln exhibit / Main Street Opera, are now accessible. The ParkPennies Penny Press Locations page has been updated.

5/03/2013 NEW CAST MEMBER ISSUED ELONGATED COINS! ParkPennies has received most welcome news of a Cast Member Event that was held at the Disneyland Resort on May 1, 2013 for the 30th Anniversary of The Disney VoluntEARS charity.... The VoluntEARS penny press machine was there and in honor of the event, the VoluntEARS pressed penny set features a new stampback! So far, we have only preliminary information. But, we do have a picture of the new reverse and have updated the Disneyland Cast Member and Special Events elongated coin guide.

Voluntears New Celebrating 30 years of Magic Reverse5/01/2013 A very busy day! Lots happening at Disneyland! First a New pressed dime set in ToonTown, Disneyland USA!
Our thanks to Mike R. who spotted the machine as it was being installed around 1:30PM. The ParkPennies Penny Press Locations and The Disneyland elongated coin guides have already been updated. The dime press is currently making well spaced, fully rolled, flat dimes (!) with "Disneyland Park" banners on the front and a "MICKEY's ToonTown, Disneyland® Park" stampback! I was also impressed by how well this Eurolink style penny press has been set up to press such small coins.

DL0547-549 pressed dime machine marquee as of 4/30/135/01/2013 With our thanks to Paul P. THREE penny press machines were reported back at the Starcade in Tomorrowland...
Boomer thinks this may be the start of a new collectible series... The Tron penny press, the Wreck It Ralph penny press and the Space Mountain 35th Anniversary nickel presses are back and pressing tokens now! Yes, the new "Starcade Disneyland Park" inscribed tokens that are dispensed for 25 cents each at the Starcade and are used in the various coin-op pin ball and video machines, can now also be used and pressed in the Starcade coin press machines! Each of the three coin press machines placed onstage May 1st, 2013, at the recently remodeled Starcade, accept these cool tokens exclusively. Yes, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln need have no fear of being pinched at the Starcade any longer. :-) Two tokens pay for the press and a third token is pressed into a large, thick, heavy, brass-colored souvenir! As collectors have observed in other Disney parks around the world, pressed tokens can avoid challenges like we have here in the USA, like future changes in coinage and today's zinc cents. Because the tokens are even a bit larger than a quarter, they offer a larger surface with the potential for more visible and detailed images than currently offered at the Disneyland USA or WDW Resorts. This conversion to tokens also means less cost to the collector for a souvenir of this size. At 75 cents each including the token to be pressed, the cost is even less than the $1.00 it used to cost to press a quarter. (Four quarters total, three for the press plus one kept by the collector.) Yet, the profit to the machine owner is nearly the same because a pressed token is kept by the collector, instead of a pressed quarter... a needed bit of relief for coin press machine owners that haven't seen a significant price increase in these little treasures since 1987 when pressed pennies were introduced for 50 cents each or 1996 when pressed quarters were introduced for a $1.00 each. (The Tokyo Disneyland Resort and Hong Kong Disneyland have used planchets (copper disks) for years. ) Yikes! There I go wondering on and on again! :-)
So, you ask... what do the new pressed token souvenirs look like??!!! Not that you can really tell given my poor quality pictures... They look much better in person. The solid, heavy, thick, brass-gold-tone tokens are really nice. They are currently pressed with the smaller cent and nickel dies shown, but, have the potential for very large, detailed quarter+ sized images. Boomer on Google

The nine new pressed tokens, pressed on unchanged Tron DL0499 DL0500 and DL0501, Space Mountain 35th Anniversary DL0528 DL0529 and DL0530, and Wreck It Ralph DL0531 DL0532 and DL0533 coin dies and backstamps, will retain their original guide numbers with a "T" suffix acknowledging the new token variation. The ParkPennies Penny Press Locations page and The Disneyland elongated coin guides are already updated. Happy Collecting! Boomer and the folks at ParkPennies.com.

04/24/2013 The Princess quarter press is back onstage after a short absence. It appears that the Disneyland Arcade Folks demonstrated their in park talent by correcting the original Jasmin coin die to read Jasmine. And the machine is pressing beautifully! Luckily, many readers here and via "Liking" ParkPennies FaceBook page, pressed this set when first reported and have the now scarce "Jasmin" pressed quarter. Our thanks for the most welcome reports and updates you share here with fellow collectors that help make these early reports possible. Spot a new elongated coin at The Disneyland Resort? Share the news with fellow collectors here, you will get named credit for your find, and keep Boomer on his toes! :-)
The Disneyland elongated coin guide and the ParkPennies Penny Press Locations page have been updated. Happy collecting, Boomer and the folks at ParkPennies.com... See you at the Park! :-)

04/19/2013 Reports, research, and a little detective work have established that the latest Princess elongated quarter set features some slight variations. We have noted the Disneyland elongated coin guide as follows: " Temporary note: When first placed onstage, the DL0544 "B" button was the only coin in the original onstage set exhibiting a post original engraving coin grip enhancement. However, samples of coins pressed post 4/7/2013 from buttons "A" the DL0543 and "C" the DL0545 also show signs of post original engraving coin grip modifications that must have been done between 4/3/2013 and 4/7/2013. Once this coin press machine returns to stage and a set of current samples can be examined, our guide entries for this set will be updated. Most likely, the DL0543 and DL0545, which were modified after their placement onstage, will have "a" variations, e.g. DL0543a and DL0545a, much as the DL0531-533 / DL0531a-533a set. Advanced collectors may wish to attribute this slight variation in coins they have already acquired and / or provide appropriate accommodation for the future addition of these variations in their collections." Boomer sez "They made the little notches bigger." :-)

04/08/2013 Our thanks to Randy K. for his contributions / updates to the ParkPennies.com Penny Press Locations page today.

04/07/2013 Our thanks to Eddie for being the first to report that our old friend, the Tinker Bell pressed quarter machine, that has long been inaccessible because of construction, is again available at the Main Street Train Station. Our thanks to Mike R. for reporting that the new Princess quarter machine was apparently serviced and returned to the Small Word Toy Shop today. And is working great.

04/03/2013 A big thank you to Greg J. who reported a Buzz Lightyear reverse variation which was not acknowledged in our guides. We have noted that variation with credit to Greg.
04/03/2013 The latest Walt Disney Imagineering pressed penny style pin sets, "Rivers of America" and "Lilo and Stitch", were added to the ParkPennies.com WDI Pressed Penny Pins Guide page.

04/03/2013
NEW PRINCESS QUARTER SET! Just placed onstage Tuesday, April 2nd, at the Small World Toy Shop located in Fantasyland at the Disneyland Resort. (More details and coin pictures have been added to the Disneyland elongated coin guide.) We were impressed with the three dimensional detail of the engraving, the artwork size, and that the machine presses them perfectly flat. Also each coin is inscribed with "Disneyland Park", the character's name, and a logo "FantasyLand Disneyland Park" reverse that covers the coin reverse. As has been the trend with new Disneyland Resort quarter press machines, these very collectible Disneyland souvenirs are priced at $1.25 including the quarter that is pressed. This new princess pressed quarter set replaces the DL0425, DL0426, DL0427 Cinderella, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty pressed quarter set, which is now retired. Our thanks to all fellow Disney collectors that visit our humble web site, shared it with friends or "Like" our FaceBook page :-) Happy Collecting from the folks at ParkPennies.

04/02/2013 Our thanks to Mike P. and Robyn who recently asked about the latest WDI pressed penny pin set which was released March 26th. We hope to have scans of these really neat Paradise Pier and Adventure Land themed pins added to the WDI Pressed Penny Pin page later this week.
03/12/2013 Ralph B. reports that all the Knott's Berry Farm Snoopy/Charlie Brown machines are new. I know there are more than a few Knott's collectors that read this page... our thanks to Ralph B. for his report.
03/05/2013 Looks like it may rain in sunny California... maybe good day to surf Disney elongated coin auctions? Currently there are more than 250 separate Disney elongated coin auctions linked to ParkPennies.com by fellow visitors. Boomer has picked up a nice coin or two by checking that list often, especially for Buy it Now items. If you'd like to link your auctions to ParkPennies.com it's free, here's how. Happy collecting from the folks at ParkPennies.
03/02/2013 NEW 2013 pressed penny set! Details in the Disneyland Pressed Penny guide and on the Disneyland Pressed Penny Machine Locations page. This coin set features a very small 20 13 that replaces four dots at the bottom of coins' borders and a special Main Street USA 2013 reverse. Still only 51 cents each! UPDATE: This machine has recently been reported by several readers as "out of order". As longtime collectors have observed, sometimes a machine is repaired during the day or overnight. Other times repairs require the machine to be taken off-stage. We often hear collectors familiar with WDW, complement the quality of the work done by the Disneyland Arcade Tech people. I too am confident that the Disneyland Arcade Team will continue to do what is needed to keep our treasured penny presses running. But sadly, ParkPennies usually has no way of knowing when any particular machine is being serviced or when it might return.

03/01/2013 Possible 2013 penny press set reported onstage. Update to follow.

02/19/2013 Recently John W. wrote to share a bit of very interesting information given to him by a Cast Member while John was pressing coins at the Starcade, Disneyland USA... According to the Cast Member, some Disneyland penny press machines are being tested for conversion to press tokens(!) If token pressing "penny" machines prove as suitable for park placement at Disneyland as they have at some other Disney Resorts, it could be a great opportunity for both penny and token collectors. Boomer can't wait! :-)
(Related: Some background thoughts about the necessity and popularity of Disney token presses is mentioned in our 11/29/2012 post. Examples of 1,000s of Disneyland pressed tokens from Disney machines already in service:TDL The Tokyo Disneyland Resort and HKDL Hong Kong Disneyland Resort )

02/06/2013 Our thanks to Mike R. who reported the return of the Wreck It Ralph penny press machine at the Starcade, Tomorrowland. It appears the machine was offstage for maintenance that included enlarging of the coin grip notches. These die modifications will make the returning coins guide numbers DL0531a, DL0532a and DL0533a. The original, DL0531, DL0532 and DL0533 coins, with the smaller grips, are now retired as they can no longer be pressed.

01/08/2013 The Disneyland Pressed Penny Locations Page has been updated and is current as of today. Do keep in mind that we don't note a machine's absence unless we feel it will be offstage for a week or more. Repairs, jams, etc. usually are corrected quickly. Machines in areas that are closed for refurbishment are sometimes moved to an adjacent area within a few days. Such moves are usually updated in the Disneyland Pressed Penny Locations Page as the news arrives. (Your most welcome reports really help us to keep the location page up to date.)

01/07/2013 The Disneyland and California Adventure Seasonal Nickel sets are now offstage and most likely retired. If you are an avid reader of this page, you had about three weeks to press a set of these traditional Christmas pressed coins. The Disneyland Resort has moved on from the 2012/13 Christmas and New Year Celebration. If you missed them, eBay usually has some for sale if you don't wait too long. View the entire very cool Disneyland Seasonal Pressed Nickels collection page.

12/23/2012 For visitors that would like to see all past and current Disneyland "Christmas" nickels, we've updated our guide page of all Disneyland Seasonal Pressed Nickels.

12/20/2012 2012 Disney California Adventure Seasonal Nickel Sets are onstage! Details, location etc. on the Disneyland penny press machine locations & checklist. We'll update the guides soon. Our thanks to John and Nancy W. for reporting this very welcome find!

12/18/2012 We are working with Twitter to secure the release of our trademark name, "ParkPennies" for our use. It was registered and is currently being held by a lowly name squatter. (An all too common problem) Their intent is of concern to us. Please be aware that tweeting "@ParkPennies" or "#ParkPennies" or "#Parkpenny" or "@ParkPenny" will be directed to them, not ParkPennies. If this person's reputation is such that he doesn't feel comfortable using his own name, we feel he and our hobby would be better served if he were to improve his reputation rather than misleading people by using our trademark, name, or look-alikes of them. Or... maybe he could just use the name Cok"a"-Cola instead of ours? :-)
12/18/2012
We often receive welcome emails from readers. The most common inquiries are about new machines and their locations. Also, we are often asked if a particular machine, currently offstage, will return. To help answer these questions we have a vintage Magic Eight Ball Fortune Teller :-) and a very current Disneyland penny press machine locations & checklist. The List is a one page PDF file so you can view it online, via SmartPhone at the park, (See also SmartPhone Apps) or you can print The List and take it along with you to the park. The List includes every machine onstage at the Disneyland Resort and additional Disney themed machines located near the resort. The List is also noted with "Missing" tags for coins that were placed onstage and then were possibly taken offstage for seasonal rotation, refurbishment, or new theming over extended periods of time and may return some day. (Usually no changes are made to The List for machines that are expected to return in less than one week.)
When evidence shows, with a reasonable degree of certainty, that a coin die has been retired, it is removed from the Disneyland penny press machine locations & checklist and noted as "retired" in the Disneyland Pressed Penny Guides.
The List is free for all and supported by fellow readers and ParkPennies.com operatives who kindly report new penny presses.

12/16/2012 Late evening update... The Seasonal nickel set is onstage and working great! Our thanks to Ron K. who was the first to spot this new machine. Details are on the Disneyland penny press machine locations & checklist. We should also have coin images, descriptions, and guide numbers added to the Disneyland Pressed Penny Guide soon.

2012 Seasonal Nickel Press Set Marquee
12/14/201212/16/2012 The Disneyland Seasonal Nickel machine is not currently onstage. Although reported as being briefly onstage, it is currently being serviced offstage. We hope that it will return Monday or Tuesday? Stay tuned for updates. No reports of a possible Disney California Adventure machine as of today.

12/11/2012 The ParkPennies.com Disneyland Pressed Penny Coin Guide has been updated with the latest Wreck It Ralph pressed penny set.

12/10/12 Our thanks to The Peck family of Anaheim for reporting.... A NEW PENNY PRESS SET! It's a Wreck It Ralph themed three play penny press located near the Wreck It Ralph Event inside the Starcade, TomorrowLand, Disneyland USA. This set has great back stamps and the machine is rolling perfectly. Boomer spent the day at the park and he met some really nice pressed penny collectors at the new machine. But, he is really tired now, you can tell because he is talking about himself in third person... %-) So the scans and guide numbers will most likely be done by late Tuesday. For now, our Disneyland penny press machine locations & checklist is already updated with the guide numbers, machine location, and brief descriptions. More wonderful souvenirs and at only 50 cents each plus the penny you watch being pressed. Happy collecting!

12/04/12 NEW WDI Pressed Penny Pin Set! This makes a total of 25 Disneyland pins made in the style of pressed pennies. Yes, people collect pins too. :-)

11/29/12 If you regularly read ParkPennies.com, and we hope you do :-), you'll remember our various posts about "The Future of the US Cent" (Center frame with related links near the bottom of that page.) The long running battle to change the composition of "pocket change" and / or ultimately put an end to it, is continuing with the current hearings entitled “The Future of Money: Dollars and Sense”. We'll post some highlights after this round of hearings have completed. However, based on the direction of past hearings, it seems probable that we will see a major change in the composition of at least pennies and nickels before too long. When we add the motivation from current budget challenges and fiat currency issues, it may be only a matter of time until "press-able" circulating coins become scarce, even without the enactment of another law against destruction of our current US coinage.
But, no worries. Planchets are already used in place of pennies by "penny press" machines in Japan, "Magical Coin" machines in Hong Kong, and often US Cents are fed as planchets from hoppers inside Canadian penny presses. So, "token presses" and ways to convert older penny presses to "token presses" are already available. These machines and conversion kits are even made by some US manufacturers. And pressing planchets can provide a higher profit to the machine owner without an increase in the cost to the customer. So, collecting our treasured souvenirs need not come to an end. :-)
Are you currently sorting copper cents from circulation? If so, you are not alone. Old copper cents, last minted in 1982, are being taken out of circulation at a noticeable pace by lots of people. Folks are speculating on the future price of copper and I hear tell a few pressed penny collectors are setting them aside for future use. ;-) Fellow old timers may be reminded when we could even sort silver dimes, quarters, half-dollars, and dollars from our pocket change... Now, what was I thinking all those years when I spent a *silver* quarter (Current value $6.08) for a single gallon of gas!??

11/25/12 Are you checking to see if news of a 2012 Seasonal Nickel Set has been posted? Yep. We can read minds! :-) But, we still can't say when the nickels might arrive this year. The Seasonal Pressed Nickel Sets over the past 17 years have been placed onstage every year and over a wide range of times. So, we will hold out hope for a 2012 set at least until the end of the year. Do check back often we will post any updates as soon as they are available.

11/15/12 A well known elongated cent, The Pike from Mr. Ray Dillard's legendary collection, sold today via the Stacks and Bowers Auction for $3,750.00 ($4.406.00 including buyer's premium of 17.5%). Although we know of Disney themed elongated coins which have individually sold for more than $3,000.00, we believe this sale has set a new record price for the public sale of a single elongated coin. If you have additional information, please let us know.

Note from www.scoins.com of a previous sale of "The Pike". Buyer premiums were not mentioned in this Numismatic News article. However, Nina, a ParkPennies.com visitor, recently emailed us quoting an auction selling price of $4,025.00 which might include a 15% buyer's premium?

Scotsman realizes $1.6 million during show debut
A three-session sale by Scotsman Auction Co. of St. Louis, Mo., realized $1,655,532 hammer during the debut of the New Silver Dollar Coin & Currency Show Oct. 17-19 in St. Louis. (See story Page 1.)
The first two sessions comprised hundreds of lots of U.S. coins and related material.
Highlights included a 1799 Draped Bust large cent graded Very Fine-30 by Professional Coin Grading Service. It went above the expectation with a total of $23,000.
An 1857-O quarter eagle gold coin determined by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation to be MS-64 condition brought $17,500. According to NGC, this is the finest known.
Lot 2102 amassed $10,250. An About Uncirculated-55 grade given by catalogers helped the 1855-O double eagle stay at the top end of its predicted sale range.
A featured medallion was Lot 367. The 1787 Immunis Columbia Colonial pattern piece listed as Mint State-63 Brown by catalogers sold for $23,750. Scotsman describes it as "one of the finest known, if not the finest."
The third session exclusively contained Robert L. Hendershott's collection of 1904 World's Fair memorabilia. A key piece in this section earned $3,500. The elongated dubbed "The Pike Souvenir," is one of an estimated 15 known, said the auction house.

11/3/12 Our thanks again to Kuniaki Hiraki who has reported these new coins at The Tokyo Disneyland Resort: Kuniaki writes... I regret that I must tell you about some bad news. All Souvenir medallion machines at TDR cannot be made now. The cast has said that there is a problem with the machines. According to information from reliable sources, the machines must be checked one by one. Because one of the machines caught fire on Nov. 01, 2012. I did not make the medals of this month yet. 10/31/12 Hmmm... So now that Disney bought Lucas Films, Star Wars, Indiana Jones... You are probably wondering when will we see Disneyland Star Wars and Indiana Jones pressed pennies at the park? Talk about cool pressed penny sets! Boomer is already pacing the floor! :-

)
10/16/12 Update: Ray Dillard's historic elongated coin collection is on track to be auctioned by Stacks and Bowers at the Whitman Show in Baltimore (November 15-18, 2012). Due to the size of the collection, the coins may be offered over three sales. I'll post additional updates and catalog information as received.

10/14/12 Our thanks to Shawn P. for his report that the Haunted Mansion / Nightmare Before Christmas quarter press is still offstage and that he was told by a Cast Member that it would be offstage until at least November 2, 2012. Shawn also noted that the coin press machines (Tron and the Space Mountain 35th) are missing at the Starcade. A Cast Member at that location said it was to make room for other equipment. Now, seriously, in absence of a medical emergency, what could possibly make better use of store space than a penny press?! :-)

10/14/12 Our thanks to Thelma C. for sharing news of a 2012 Halloween pressed penny set at Hong Kong Disneyland! We'll update the HKDL pressed penny guides as soon as we have scans and machine order / picture of the machine marquee for these new coins.

10/13/12 Halloween is just around the corner... Boomer is on the lookout for a possible 2012 Nightmare Before Christmas pressed quarter set. Nothing to report yet. NBC quarter sets are a long tradition at The Disneyland Resort. Often appearing onstage from early October to late November.

10/08/12 Our thanks to James H. for his Disneyland machine status update. The Haunted Mansion quarter press is still offstage. There is a Pirate event in it's place. We had hoped that the quarter press would be placed back onstage or at least relocated by now. The time for the Seasonal Nightmare Before Christmas quarter set is nearing... maybe the Haunted Mansion quarter press will return with a new NBC quarter set? 09/23/12 Thank you for visiting today! :-) We have a few recent updates that might be of interest. Boomer [Finally!] updated the Complete Excel Pressed Penny Guide spreadsheet. This file has brief descriptions of every Disneyland elongated coin ever onstage with guide numbers, a column for notes, check boxes for have / need... You may download it to your desktop, easily customized and/or converted it to many other formats including Word etc., and make labels, pocket lists, trade lists, reference pages... (For your personal use per the ParkPennies.com Terms of Use.) We also have a web page style version of this brief, but complete listing of all Disneyland elongated coins. Permanent links to these files are located on the Pressed Penny Machine Locations page. Enjoy and please let us what you'd like us to add like features, format... or if you spot any errors(!)
Happy Collecting from Boomer and the folks at ParkPennies.com

09/19/12 If you haven't visited our courtesy Pressed Pennies links / resources web site, why not take a look today? PressedPennies.com doesn't offer anything for sale, but, it does offer links to penny press manufacturers, cool pressed penny web sites, pressed penny supplies... and you can submit additional links that you feel would be of interest to fellow elongated coin collectors, for free. Just click collectors' resources @ www.PressedPennies.com. We are especially hoping to add your recommendations to the list of custom elongated coin die engravers.

09/18/12 Looks like there may be a bit of a lull in the storm of new pressed penny sets while we anticipate the traditional Nightmare Before Christmas pressed quarter sets and Seasonal Nickels sets. They are some of my personal favorites; I can't wait to see what the next few months will bring. Longtime readers [and the ParkPennies staff ] know that sometimes waiting only a week to press a new set of coins is waiting too long. Sad pressed penny face Best to check this page often for updates... Like you really need another reason to visit the "Happiest Place On Earth"? Happy pressed penny face

Condor Flats pressed penny stampback09/12/12 It appears the last of the replacement penny press machines for the New Disney California Adventure arrived today! If you'd like to see all the new machines / elongated coins that have been placed onstage since the rededication of DCA, this link will take you to the New DCA pressed pennies guide page... Now, where was I...? Oh, yes! The new penny press machine is themed for the very popular Soarin' Over California attraction which is just across the pathway from the Fly N Buy Gift Shop, home to this new set of pressed pennies. Boomer thought you might like to see the new coins, he even remembered to take a picture of the machine marquee today! You can see the marquee and the new pressed pennies in the DCA pressed penny guide. But, for now, I just have to show you the really cool reverse that is on each of these new coins! And this is only the back of the coin! See all the pressed penny coins in this set.

09/11/12 Collectors that follow this site or our ParkPennies FaceBook page often, had a brief window of time to press the CA0180, CA0181, and CA0182 Toy Story (Midway Mania) coins before the coin grips were modified. This modification is a small change to most casual collectors. However, advanced collectors will remember the DL0329/DL0329a Nightmare Before Christmas quarter and probably want to snap up a set of the early small grip Toy Story elongated coins while they are still available in the secondary markets. You can read a bit more about the CA0180a, CA0181a, CA0182a set in our DCA pressed penny guide.

Comparison CA0180 and CA0180a
Example of small grip vs. large/thick grip CA0180/a, 181/a, 182/a set.
An easy way to identify old / new gripper bars is that the new gripper bars (bottom)
are often touching the top of the "D" or the dots in the border where the old
gripper bars (top) do not.

09/08/12 Our thanks to both Brittany and Cathy for each reporting a NEW Buzz Lightyear / Toy Story / Midway Mania themed penny press machine at Side Show Shirts... within minutes of each other! This new-est pressed penny set features the extra cool Paradise Pier stampbacks too! You can check them out here: DCA pressed penny guides: Toy Story penny press set.
Is it just my imagination or have there been LOTS of new penny presses placed in DCA lately? :-) Our Disneyland penny press machine locations & checklist has the latest machines and locations. Don't be shy about checking it often as new machines are placed throughout the park. If you spot a pressed penny not yet listed, please report it, anony-mousely if you wish.

09/04/12 Our thanks to a longtime visitor and occasional anony-mouse super spy tipster for this most welcome report.
Yes. There is ANOTHER NEW PENNY PRESS in Disney California Adventure! These new elongated coins feature Duffy and Mickey (picture) . [9/6/12 edit: With really cool Paradise Pier stampbacks! :-)]

Paradise Pier pressed penny back stamp 9/4/12Can you believe it? Finally, Duffy the Disney Bear pressed pennies for the Disneyland Resort! Boomer is trying to keep up with all the new coins... we'll be a bit late. But, we hope to have guides updated with pictures soon. For now, please refer to our Disneyland penny press machine locations & checklist. It already has the locations, a brief description, and guide numbers; all you need to find and press this really nice elongated coin set. We think there are still a few more penny press machines on the way. So, please do check back often for updates. Happy collecting from Boomer and the folks at ParkPennies.com.

09/02/12 The Disneyland Resort is really rolling out the penny press machines! The Disney California Adventure Hollywood Tower Hotel set was placed onstage today. Thought you'd want to know ASAP if you're headed to the park for the latest sets. The ParkPennies.com Disneyland penny press machine locations & checklist includes the Hollywood Tower set, guide numbers, descriptions and location. We'll have the guides updated, including pictures, soon.
09/02/12 Our thanks to Cari W. and Tom V. for spotting a description error.

09/01/12 Our thanks for the reports from Lou S. and Ricky K. about the NEW Cars themed penny press at the Los Feliz Five & Dime, Buena Vista Street, Disney California Adventure. There is also a NEW Space Mountain 35th Anniversary nickel press at the Starcade in Tomorrowland... The free ParkPennies Disneyland penny press machine locations & checklist is also up to date with locations and guide numbers. Do print a copy of the locations & checklist to take along to the park with you or use it online via your internet enabled phone while you are at the park.

09/01/12 Our sincere thanks for your links, Likes, and recommendations of ParkPennies.com! Your very welcome efforts brought more than 1,500,000 hits... yes, more than one million five hundred thousand hits (!) from more than 35,000 visitors to ParkPennies.com in July alone. That is an increase of more than 50% over just the past few years! As you know, ParkPennies is a free, non-commercial web site. But to us, visits by fellow collectors like that are the best pay in the world and just plain priceless! Thank you for visiting and referring your friends to ParkPennies. Happy Collecting from Boomer and the folks at ParkPennies!

08/30/12 Given our 8/29/12 post, we should have guessed that today's post would be... NEW MACHINE IN DCA! Yes, the penny press machine at The Studio Store (previously known as Rizzo's Gift Shop) near the Muppets' attraction in Hollywood Land, Disney California Adventure, is back with a new set of coins. They are Animal, Kermit, and Fozzie. The images are good and the coins have the excellent "Disney California Adventure Hollywood Land" logo. Although the images do not appear to be unique to DCA and do not feature a DCA banner, the borders do have a Disney California Adventure "D". Our thanks to Mike R. for his lighting fast discovery and report!
It may take a day or two for Boomer to get the guide updated with pictures etc. But, we have already updated our Disneyland penny press machine map with the presser locations, coin guide numbers etc. Happy collecting, and thank you for "like-ing" our page on Facebook.

08/29/12 We haven't posted recently because there just hasn't been any new machines onstage this last week. However, we do expect to see more of the missing DCA machines return before too long and the Nightmare Before Christmas pressed quarters and the Seasonal Nickel set machines should be onstage by year end. So stay tuned! :-) While you're here, why not try a picture search? Just follow this pressed penny picture search link and when the picture page opens, click on the picture of your choice to open the related page. -Lots of fun penny related items to explore.

08/16/12 Our thanks again to Ricky K. who just reported two more new machines in DCA! And again, these are very impressive penny press machines offering elongated coins worthy of the new Disney California Adventure. Matter of fact, I think many readers, once they see these elongated coins and the penny press machines that vend them in person, will say DCA has set a new quality standard. The "new era" penny press machine cabinets feature heavy solid woods and veneers styled to match their elaborate surroundings. The coins feature fresh, non-generic three dimensional images, fine detailing, over the top location-specific stampbacks... And still only 51 cents. In my humble opinion, the Disneyland Resort has its penny press magic back.
Our best on the net Disneyland penny press machine map is already updated with the new numbers, locations, and descriptions. We've also updated the Disney California Adventure pressed penny guides with images. But wait, there's more! You can click the FaceBook "like" button above for our FB notifications of new machines too. :-) Happy collecting!

08/09/12 Bet you're here to get the latest Disneyland penny press news? :-) Here it is... Another new penny press machine set was placed onstage at the Off The Page Gift Shop in Disney California Adventure's Hollywood Land! As with other recently placed pressed pennies, these are excellent! You may view pictures of these coins with guide numbers in the ParkPennies Disney California Adventure pressed penny guides.

08/04/12 TWO MORE new machines at Disney California Adventure! Reported by Nancy and John W. and Boomer. See these new coins with locations in the Disney California Adventure pressed penny guide. By the way, the penny press machines are again, top of the line as are these new coins.

7/28/12 TWO NEW PENNY PRESS MACHINES AT DCA! The penny press cabinets are over the top high quality hardwoods themed to the style and period of their locations. The elongated coins are also truly Disney Quality... they could possibly be some of the best designed pressed pennies Disney has ever offered. The coins feature park and location specific designs, 3-D engraving, classic dot borders and park banners on the obverse of most coins. PLUS all coins feature excellent, location specific stampbacks "Disney's California Adventure, Buena Vista Street"! We're told the artwork was done by Maria Clapsis of Disney Vinylmation fame. 7/18/12 We know many visitors have been waiting for news of new penny presses at DCA. We are waiting too! sad penny Keep checking back, we'll post locations and coin descriptions as soon as we have a confirmed "sighting".

7/17/12 It's official. The Ray Dillard collection of elongated coins will be auctioned by Stacks & Bowers Galleries. As many advanced collectors will tell you, this is The Collection of Elongated Coins. TEC NEWS made the news public in the July-September Issue. The latest word is that the collection will be auctioned at the Baltimore Whitman Show in November of 2012. Ray tells us that coins will be auctioned in lots and there may be an illustrated catalog. The auction items will also be available for viewing at Ray's "Dillard Enterprises" booth at the ANA World's Fair of Money in Philadelphia, August 8-9-10, 2012. We'll post updates here and provide a link to the auction as soon as available. Both Ray and his collection of 1893-1978 pre-vended era elongated coins are legendary in the world of elongated coin collecting. This will be an excellent opportunity to own a bit of elongated coin history.

7/10/12 The Fly N Buy penny press is definitely off-stage from DCA, reportedly removed 7/9/12. The Mad T Party penny press, the only press currently in DCA, was moved from Off The Page to Gone Hollywood probably on the same day. Other than the Mad T Party, the expected, anticipated, new DCA penny presses have not arrived. Still, Boomer found the new DCA attractions really neat!
When at the park, the ParkPennies penny press locations list is the one to check for the most resent updates.

7/09/12 With welcome help from Aaron G. the ParkPennies.com Excel Disneyland pressed penny guide has been updated. This light-weight single handy file offers very brief descriptions of the Disneyland elongated coins from all ParkPennies guides. The file can be modified by the user, notes about coins can be added, sections highlighted, new coins manually added and saved in other file formats all for private use. A web page version has also been uploaded. Please refer to the generous ParkPennies Terms of Use for other permitted uses of these files. Permanent links to the file can be found on the Disneyland penny files and locations page.

7/08/12 Boomer reports that when the Haunted Mansion Quarter Press recently returned to stage after a short absence, the ghost stampbacks mysteriously switched coins! Details and images just added to the Disneyland elongated coin guide.

6/30/12 Ronald W. and Jennifer separately reported a new Mad T Party pressed penny machine to ParkPennies.com today! Ronald's report was submitted on 6/30/12 at about 10:00 AM, probably within an hour or two of when the machine was placed onstage, and way before Boomer even got back from the park to the ParkPennies.com news desk for the day's update! The new machine is located at Off The Page Gift Shop in Hollywood Land, Disney California Adventure. Thank you Ronald and Jennifer for your reports!
Based on this new elongated coin set, it looks like The Disneyland Resort is well on their way to getting their 1900s pressed penny magic back. The new DCA pressed penny machine set has what many people have been asking for! UNIQUE WELL THEMED ART in this case, based on the Mad T Party which is definitely a DCA theme found only on DCA pressed pennies. GOOD IMAGES AND LAYOUT, these well placed images do lack the legendary Disneyland 3-D hand engraving of the 1990s, but, are nicely detailed and include dot borders featuring a DCA style "D" at the top of each coin. GREAT BACKSTAMPS on this set of coins proclaim the origin of this elongated coin set, "Hollywood Land, Disney California Adventure"! If future coins from DCA are like these, we feel they are going to make for happy guests, busy penny presses, and some really nice framed pressed penny collections.
Yes, Boomer forgot his camera... again today! As you can see, his phone pics of the Machine, Marquee, and Coins aren't that good, not that any of Boomer's pictures are very good. But, we should have the DCA pressed penny guides updated with "better" pictures by around Sunday afternoon, if Boomer remembers his camera this time. :-)

6/25/12 I just spotted the Ron Dominguez two zinc coins and Disneyland Line eBay auction. It's about to close, I hope a reader will grab it if their in the market. [This item was sold by the well known Disney eBay auctioneer, Dizfunfair. ]

6/22/12 Boomer asked "Are the new DCA pressed pennies there yet?" -No. "So, are they there yet?" -NO. "Now?" -NO! "Ahhh..." -NO! At least that's what most all the poor soles who have fallen victim to Boomer's phone calls have said. Matter of fact, a few DCA Cast Members unable or too polite to run and hide from Boomer have said the same thing. Our most resent covert searches of DCA and reports to ParkPennies by fellow collectors are also in agreement. There are reports of lots of new fun attractions, over a billion dollars of plused up really cool stuff... but, alas, no new penny presses... so far.
Off-Topic Tip: If you are an Annual Passholder, don't forget to check out the AP Early Morning Events for both DCA and DL. Here is a link to the special sign up page. Or, if you have a friend that is an Annual Passholder, and you share this information with them, maybe they'll have some extra time at the park to press some pennies for you? :-) Happy collecting, Boomer and the folks at ParkPennies.com

6/19/12 There are no new DCA pressed pennies onstage, yet. But, we do have over 300 eBay auctions of Disney pressed pennies which were linked here by fellow ParkPennies visitors. Lots of Tokyo Disneyland coin auctions, and a few really hard to find Disneyland coins too... Okay, I know it's not news of a new DCA penny press. But, maybe you'll find that needed coin for your collection, while we're all waiting for news of a new DCA penny press! :-)

6/19/12 If you've visited the new Disney California Adventure looking for new Disney California Adventure elongated coins and were disappointed, you're not alone. More than a few ParkPennies visitors, personal friends, and Disneyland Resort guests have shared with us their recent adventures of looking for penny presses in DCA. Bottom line, as of today, there aren't any penny presses in DCA at all. Even the old penny presses have gone missing! As you may have noticed, there are no current penny press machines shown on the ParkPennies penny press locations list, (A PDF file you can download onto your smartphone and use in the park). Now to be fair, we've heard that the Fly N Buy machine in Condor Flats is still onstage, and we've also heard that it is gone, so maybe there is *one* penny press in DCA as of this post, but, even it is not a new penny press.
On the positive side, multiple emails and text messages have assured us that new DCA penny press machines are really, really, really, on the way. So, hang in there! Needless to say, Boomer is going to be lurking around the park just in case a machine does appear and we hope you'll report any new penny press machines you find too. Do be sure to check this page often for updates. ;-)

6/17/12 Douglas O. just sent us a message and shared what a DCA Chamber of Commerce (City Hall) Cast Member told him about DCA pressed penny machines. According to the Cast Member, the penny machines are running late. However, the Cast Member believes the first machine is scheduled to be placed on stage next week with one additional machine placed each following week until all the penny presses are back onstage. Our thanks to Douglas for sharing this excellent update.

6/14/12 Mass communication: "No new DCA penny press machines have been reported... yet." But, you know we'll post the news here as soon as we have a confirmed "sighting". Boomer says "Even if you do not find a new penny press at Cars Land, I hear there are some neat consolation attractions". :-)
As always, if you find a penny press machine not listed on the ParkPennies penny press locations map, claim credit for your find when your name is posted here as the first person to report a new penny press machine at Cars Land .

6/11/12 Our thanks to Jeremy, Lesley, Ella, Wyatt, & Sophie who sent a most welcome message that the new Cars Land attractions are great. But, no new penny press machines to be found as of Monday, June 11th, 2012.

6/10/12 Based on rumors, reports, and yes, Boomer's irrational physic visions, we believe upcoming Disney California Adventure penny press offerings will match the park's impressive expansion. As you'd expect, excitement over the potential of several new DCA penny press machines has generated a lot of very welcome inquiries and reports to ParkPennies. The most recent reports state that probable penny press locations inside shops on Buena Vista Street are nearing the time they will be ready for the placement of penny press machines. And, there are reasons to expect several new elongated coin sets. The recent name change from Disney's California Adventure to Disney California Adventure, changes in the park theme, shop names, and lands all suggest new elongated coins. Plus, several machines have been taken offstage. As you've read here and noticed on the penny press locations map, all machines located in what will be Buena Vista Street, two machines from the Hollywood Back Lot area, and the quarter press at Rushin' River have gone missing... often a sign of upcoming new coins! So, we think there will be ample reason for penny collectors to visit DCA often this month as the penny presses roll out. :-)
Please bookmark and visit this page for updates as they are posted. As always, if you find a penny press machine not listed on the ParkPennies penny press locations map, claim credit for your find when your name is posted here as the first person to report a new penny press machine.

05/20/12 As you may have read, today Disneyland admission prices "edged up" to $125.00 for a one day park hopper pass for guests 10 and older. Premium annual passports, including parking, are now $649.00 and parking is currently $15.00 per day for a standard passenger car. Only time will tell if Disneyland elongated coin prices and availability on eBay etc. will change due to these price increases. Boomer is thinking Disneyland admission prices are now about the same all the other amusement parks in Southern California... combined! So, why are there so many people at the park nearly every day? It's the penny presses! :-)

05/14/12 [updated, expanded and revised 5/16/12] Missing Arcade Penny Presses: Warning: Boomer's rants follow. In reply to the many very welcome ParkPennies.com visitor comments and inquires about the fate of the penny presses that were located at the Disneyland USA Main Street Penny-Less Arcade...
As readers will recall, about 17 three-play penny press machines were located in the Main Street Penny Arcade area before it was closed for remodeling. Around that time, three of those machines were moved to the Main Street Opera (Lincoln) exit near two existing penny press machines, leaving 14 machines still missing. On about 5/2/12 the Main Street Penny Arcade reopened without a single penny press machine present. Most recently, the Tron penny press, a former Main Street Penny Arcade machine, was found at the Starcade in Tomorrowland, leaving 13 machines still missing as of 5/10/12. For future updates, please check this page. For a list of penny press machine as they return and those that are still missing, please see ParkPennies.com machine locations map (PDF) and the penny press locations web page.

Many readers have shared with us their concerns over arcade "downsizing". Personally, as an old kid, who has aged with the park and enjoyed countless fun visits since 1956, I must agree. Most changes have been very positive. However, I too lament the disappearance of Disneyland arcades and penny presses. Some readers may remember when the Main Street Penny Arcade was an... arcade... with a shooting gallery. Some of us may even remember the Disney themed pin ball machines and the piece of eight coin stamper... at the Pirates ARCADE Museum (Now the Pieces of Eight Shop). I fondly remember many fun hours spent with my daughter at the Starcade when it had two wondrous floors of assorted coin operated machines, two cashiers just to make change...
For many Disneyland guests, arcades with coin-operated games enhance the nostalgia, the feel, and fun of Disneyland. Many people enjoy the the coin-operated electro-mechanical entertainment and fun souvenirs arcade machines like penny presses offer. Such diversions from rides, food, and merchandise can be a part of what makes Disneyland, Disneyland and a big part of what Walt called the "show". I'm sad to see them slowly disappearing... especially the penny presses. (There are still many Disneyland penny presses, but, the trend at the park and at the mint worries me.)
When upset over changes at Disneyland, I try to keep in mind that many of us enjoyed The Pike, Pacific Ocean Park, Marineland, Bush Gardens, and other amusement parks that had to close over the years while Disneyland has endured. I think it is because Disney has provided a premium experience that guests are willing to pay a premium to enjoy. Often Disney makes changes guests want. With that in mind, I hope the spirit that brought about the positive changes to DCA ( Flynn's Arcade, the upcoming Mad [Tea Party] Arcade and I hear some other attractions too. :-) will also bring back the premium Disneyland Park arcade experience... with penny presses! :-)
These are my opinions. However, because they are also representative of many comments received by ParkPennies.com, I felt it important that they be voiced here. As always, your thoughts, corrections, and additions are welcome just contact ParkPennies.com.

05/11/12 [EDITED 5/12/12] The Tron penny press, previously located at the Main Street Penny Arcade, has returned to stage at the Starcade in Tomorrowland! So far, this is the only penny press of the original 14 to return after the extensive Main Street Penny Arcade remodel. (Three of the 14 were relocated across the street at the Main Street Opera exit and are still there. The Nemo machine was converted to hand crank, placed in the Starcade for a short time and then taken back offstage.) Our thanks to the ParkPennies.com visitor that offered this anony-mouse report. The ParkPennies.com machine locations map (PDF file will open in a new window) has also been updated.

05/07/12 Our thanks to Shawn P. who beat us to a report on the... New Disneyland pressed pennies! These are neat! "Adventureland, Disneyland Park" stampbacks and highly detailed images of Mickey, Minnie, and a Jungle Cruise boat obverse images. Plus they have classic dot borders, and Disneyland Park banners! Before I get to 1,000 words, here is a link to the pressed penny guide numbers and pictures. :-)
Many readers of this page own penny press machines and know how difficult it is to keep privately and especially heavily used public penny press machines running at their best. We have often heard from ParkPennies.com visitors how much better the Disneyland pennies press nowadays. -Our hats are off to the Disneyland Arcade Techs.
The ParkPennies.com machine locations map (PDF file will open in a new window) has also been updated. Now, about all those penny press machines that were missing when the newly remodeled Main Street Penny-less Arcade, I mean Main Street Penny Arcade reopened... They are still missing. We have not listed them as retired... yet. But, right now, it's looking like they may be gone for good. Maybe they will return with new coins? Stay tuned for updates.

05/05/12 Where did the Main Street Penny Arcade penny press machines go? Our thanks to Shawn, Chuck, Lou, and even Boomer for their reports of the reopening of the Main Street Penny Arcade at Disneyland USA. As avid collectors might expect, the reports have centered on several penny press machines that seemingly disappeared during the remodel. ParkPennies.com "grayed out" the machines that were not relocated when the Penny Arcade closed and baring official word we are waiting to see if the missing machines return, return with new dies, or... So, please check back for updates and please contact ParkPennies.com to share your machine discoveries with fellow collectors.

04/24/12 "2012 Disneyland, Anaheim" pressed penny has been reported at the Tropicana Hotel across from Disneyland! This non-Disney elongated coin is guide number DW0037. Also, the updated Brother Bear quarter set numbers CA0138-140 offers a new reverse. The 10th Anniversary stampbacks are now all retired. Be sure to stay tuned for more updates... By the way, we have noticed some new links to www.ParkPennies.com on both blogs and a web site! We appreciate them very much, thank you. :-)

04/23/12 Our special thanks to the avid Disney elongated coin collectors in the Jeremy H. family for helping us correctly attribute a Disney quote in our 4/05/12 post.

04/20/12 Okay, so do you manufacture, own, or use penny presses? I thought so! :-) Well, if you haven't already, you might want to view Congressman Ron Paul's April 2012 hearing on the subject of the future of the penny (Video will open in new window.) or review the recent House of Representatives bills (PDF files will open in a new window): HR3693 US Cent & HR3694 US Nickel. These and other penny / nickel information tidbits are now linked from our ever growing Types of Pennies page. This is serious stuff this time around, "change" is a changing!

04/19/12 Here's a neat preview of Disney California Adventure's new attractions. Boomer has been studying it... looking for new penny press locations. :-) It's a fun watch on YouTube. Just click this link to view the DCA and Cars Land preview in a new window.

04/17/12 A longtime contributor to ParkPennies.com, advanced collector Ron K., reported that the Muppets machine is still offstage and as of Monday, the Rushin' River quarter press is gone as well. We're thinking that the quarter press will be updated with at least new stampbacks. You know Boomer will be checking for the machines' return whenever he can and we hope you'll let us know when you see any penny press changes... Happy collecting from the folks at ParkPennies.com.

04/14/12 Our thanks to the avid Disney elongated coin collector, Ricky K., who emailed us this afternoon to report the Rushin' River quarter machine is onstage, still with 10th Anniversary stampbacks... if you don't have this set, right now would be a good time to press some. :-)

04/12/12 The Tron dime press machine has returned. Still the same images, still dimes, but, new stampbacks. Please see our penny press locations page (PDF Format) and DCA guides for more information and pictures. Also, we received a report from our good buddy Mike R. that the Rushin' River Gift shop quarter machine has been taken off-stage. Could be that the last of the 10th Anniversary stampbacks are now retired. We're all looking forward to the opening of Buena Vista Street, the entrance to DCA... we're thinking the missing penny presses will return with new coins to replace the 10th Anniversary versions that were inside the machines when the expansion started. Please bookmark this page for updates and / or "like" ParkPennies on FaceBook for automatic postings of major news / new machines.

04/12/12 Of interest to owners of penny press machines and those of us that use them... On 4/07/12 we posted that Canada was discontinuing their "penny", as have several other countries and as has been proposed by the United States (PDF). Now, Canada has gone one step further and began talking about "MintChip" digital money! Yep, no coins at all, just binary bits! And to think just last week, I was complaining about zinc cents! sad penny Well, the penny press machines at Tokyo Disneyland make nice looking souvenirs, maybe it's not all that bad.

04/07/12 As longtime readers are well aware, ParkPennies.com has often talked about the shaky future of the good old US Cent. Most recently in the 3/10/12 post on this page. Yes, the poor penny that we often turn into a thing of beauty, could turn into a thing of history, past history. As you may have read, The US Mint and more than a few members of Congress have thought it best to do away with the cent and the nickel as well. (Please see the facts and future of the US penny and recent discussions by the current administration regarding the future of the US Cent (PDF). Late last month, Canada joined in the current trend by putting an end to the Canadian cent. Could it be the US pressed penny will become a nostalgic bit of history? Will tokens and planchets soon be the standard in all Disney parks? Well, Eurolink Design Inc. is ready. They have long manufactured internal planchet dispensing machines as used in the Hong Kong and Japan Disney parks as have some other manufactures. In the US, Disneyland has used tokens to create Cast Member pressed token souvenirs for some years now. Fellow collectors, the future nears. Are you prepared?
List of countries that have already discontinued "cents".
-Note: Much like the current US cent, Canadian pennies were made mostly of zinc (98.4 percent zinc and 1.6 percent copper plate) from 1997-1999. Since 2000, they have been made of 94 percent steel and 4.5 percent copper plate, with a trace of nickel.
-Note: Private rollers report that copper cents are currently selling on eBay for ~$150.00 - $250.00 per $50.00 bag of 5,000 (!)

04/05/12 YEP! Your eyes do not deceive! ParkPennies.com has catapulted into the future! We've added a newfangled (circa 1990, but new to us. sad penny) thing-a-ma-Bob that says "Quick Links to All Guides and News" up there in the top left corner. Now, you can "Jump" from one page to another all over the web site and probably even find another thing-a-ma-Bob on the landing page too! And all for the same low price... FREE! are you kidding me?   But, wait, there's more! Several pages have been revised or updated and links from one page to another make... well... okay, they still don't make much sense. But, they are better. penny smile   As R2-D2 once said "I'm still getting used to my programming". So, if you spot a page or entry that needs attention, please let us know. Happy collecting from the ParkPennies.com folks.

03/28/12 A longtime, well known collector is parting with is Fran Brazzell hand crank penny press! It isn't often that we see one for sale. Here is a link to pictures, price... the eBay penny press auction. (The eBay auction will open in a new window.)

03/27/12 Our thanks to Mike R. for spotting a picture error. Recent additions to the DCA Pressed Penny Guide, the CA0120 and CA0122 images, were swapped. Descriptions, numbers etc. were correct. Thanks to the help of visitors, (with better eyes and memories than Boomer. :-), the typo was caught and corrected soon after posting. If you spot a typo, please contact ParkPennies.com.

03/26/12 The Disney California Adventure 10th Anniversary dimes have been changing back to pressed pennies with new "Disney California Adventure™ stampbacks. To keep up with the changes, do visit our DCA pressed penny guides or even better, especially if you are at the park and just "want the facts", visit our Disneyland penny press machine locations page. We often update the locations page even before we have pictures of the coins to add to the guides. Currently, there only the Tron dime set and the Rushin' River quarter sets are still onstage with the special 10th Anniversary stampbacks. If you want these coins and have procrastinated, now is a good time to visit the park. ;-) Thank you for "like-ing" us on FaceBook and happy collecting.

03/10/12 There is much talk about steel nickels and steel pennies in the upcoming Federal budget lately. For more information, click the link to the COIN MODERNIZATION, OVERSIGHT, AND CONTINUITY ACT OF 2010, at the bottom of our Types and Weight of Pennies page. We're thinking steel cents, especially the type they are talking about in the coin magazines may not make for good elongated coins. Since this talk of ending production of the cent or changing the material used to make them started some years back, people have suggested maybe nickel presses would be the answer. Now the US Mint is considering steel nickels too? Maybe we'll see more token machines like those used in Tokyo Disneyland and Hong Kong Disneyland? Nostalgia=A copper pressed penny? We'll post updates to this proposal for you here. Let us know what you hear.

03/10/12 Our thanks to Brian and Chuck N. on 3/11 for reporting that the Off The Page and Muppets 10th Anniversary dime machines returned as pressed pennies, as they were before the 10th Anniversary. However, they have the new Disney California Adventurestampbacks. We've updated the DCA Pressed Penny guides and the Penny Press Locations page. Happy collecting!

02/27/12 The Disney California Adventure Lilo and Stitch machine is back... It is pressing cents again, but, with new Disney California Adventure stampbacks.

02/27/12 The Sam Boyd retirement elongated coin has qualified for listing in the DS guide. This very scarce coin was brought to the attention of ParkPennies.com last week and and placed in the Cast Member guide. Today we received confirmation that both the obverse and reverse dies used to make this coin were made by the Disneyland Arcade Shop qualifying the coin for listing in the exclusive DS, Disneyland Shop elongated coin guide.

02/26/12 We are constantly making refinements, updates, and additions to our guides. (Fixing typos too! :-) As longtime visitors have noticed, usually, only new onstage coins are mentioned on this news page. So, if you have a special collection, checking the respective guide now and then is worth while; sometimes a coin's information is expanded or an image added.
Visitors new to ParkPennies.com will find helpful direct links to the main Disney elongated coin guides are listed to at the top left of this page. You may also click on the related elongated coins and banners at the top of this page for specific park guide links and of course, the Disney pressed penny collection page, for an overview of the thousands of coins listed in our various guides. Happy Collecting from the folks at ParkPennies.com.

02/21/12 The Sam Boyd retirement elongated coin was just added to the CM guide! We know very little about this coin and look forward to additions from fellow ParkPennies.com readers when they contact ParkPennies.com with news. :-)

02/20/12 The Disney California Adventure 10th Anniversary officially ended on February 8, 2012. The celebration brought some new pressed coin designs, lots of pressed penny machines were changed from pressed pennies to pressed dimes, and even more elongated coins were given special 10th Anniversary stampbacks. We're looking forward to penny press machine updates as these machines are given their post-10th makeovers. Maybe reverse changes? Maybe a coin change from dimes back to cents... nickels? If you're like the folks here at ParkPennies, I'll bet you are also looking forward to new DCA elongated coins when Buena Vista Street and the new DCA attractions opening this summer? Looks like lots of new pressed pennies may be on the way, so stay tuned! And when you have additional information to share, please contact ParkPennies.
Got some extra time to see some cool coins? Looking for a fun, small, set of coins to collect? There is a fun set that started in 1995 and has added three new coins each year since... Today, it is one of our favorite "sets" from the original Disneyland Park, The Seasonal Pressed Nickel Set. Looking for an even smaller set? The Seasonal Nickels from DCA started offering three pressed nickels annually in 2010. Today, you need only 6 coins to have a complete set of DCA Seasonal nickels! Over the years, the Seasonal Nickels have become not only a fun collection, but, a fun tradition for many Disney fans and families. If you haven't already started collecting them, now is a great time. :-)

02/13/12 We have received samples of the latest VoluntEARS pressed penny set. Given the new reverse / coin combination, elongated coins from these dies were given Cast Member / Special Events coin numbers CM0042, CM0043 and CM0044. This elongated coin set is very similar to the CM0032-34 with the obvious change of native coin from nickel to cent and very slight changes in the reverse image. Here is a guide link to the 2012 VoluntEARS pressed penny set. The machine is not accessible, at least at this time, by park guests. If we hear that the machine has been moved from backstage, we will post the news here. If you have additional information, please contact ParkPennies.

02/09/12 A longtime friend of the elongated coin hobby and author of the Americana Covers that many of us collect, mentioned that he has one Snow White/7 Dwarf elongated 1c coin (DW0005) and is offering it for sale to help fund textbooks for his College Sunday School class. Price is $25.00, first come first served. He may be reached at: The coin has been purchased. Please check the news page and linked visitor auctions often for hard to find coins.

02/08/12 Our thanks for the Anony-mouse report that the Disney Voluntears coin press has returned to the Harbor point Team Center (a backstage location accessible only by Disneyland Cast Members), possibly on Monday, January 6th. At this time, we believe that the machine is pressing cents and that the previous, traditional elongated coin obverses have been retained. The reverse stampback(s) may have changed. We hope to obtain some samples for scanning and attribution. If you have additional information, please contact ParkPennies.

02/07/12 Disneyland's first hand crank penny machine is onstage! Yes, it's "green" uses no electricity and after our thorough workout, (the machine also got a workout) we found that every coin pressed perfectly! longtime "Advanced Collectors" will also be delighted to find this machine will "stack" cents to save time and energy when pressing multiple sets of coins. Although the machine does not offer a new set of coins, it is interesting to note that this three die penny press appears to be using the same size / type die as the Eurolink electric machines. Matter of fact, it is currently pressing DL0477-479 Finding Nemo pennies exactly as the electric machine was not long ago. See and try this first Disneyland hand crank penny press for yourself at the Starcade in Tomorrowland. Happy collecting, Boomer.

Disneyland's first handcrank penny press

This new machine holds the unchanged Finding Nemo
pressed penny die set, the DL0477, DL0478 and DL0479.

02/05/12 Well known Disney elongated coin collector, Chuck N., reported the arrival of a new pressed penny book at the Disneyland Resort. The pressed penny book price has increased to $7.95. But, it is very colorful and offers temporary storage for 48 elongated cents and 6 elongated nickels / quarters. Here is a link to a picture of the new pressed penny book. For WDW collectors, Chuck N. reports that a very similar book, inscribed "Walt Disney World", is available at WDW for our friends on the East Coast.

02/04/12 The Disneyland 2012 coin of the year is onstage! Very cool design, an homage to the very first Disney pressed coin design, as seen with the DN0001, DL0001... Now the original, very popular design is back onstage waiting for you... and still at the original 1987 price of 50 cents plus the penny to be pressed. Happy collecting! Boomer.

Dated, Disneyland banner, 3-D Mickey Mouse, Disneyland
and a backstamp!

01/25/12 The Haunted Mansion set has arrived and it's a home run! There are highly detailed three dimensional images on both front and back of each coin! The elongated coins are also some of the largest I've ever seen at the park. As you'll see by the guide pictures, these coins feature images that make use of all the space available on quarters that have been pressed to maximum size. Before you take off for the park... please keep in mind that this machine will lighten your pockets at the rate of $1.25 per. The closest change machine is in Frontierland and most cashiers will tell you "I can only give you one dollar in change", which isn't even enough to press a single quarter!! So, be sure to bring some change with you or stop at one of the machines near the Frontierland Shooting Gallery to pick up some quarters. That said, even at $1.25, I think you'll find this set of Haunted Mansion Quarters extra nice and a great addition to your Haunted Mansion / Nightmare Before Christmas Disneyland pressed quarter set! Happy collecting, Boomer.

01/10/12 Our Disneyland Penny Press Machine Locations page has been updated to reflect the retirement of the Nightmare Before Christmas and Disneyland Seasonal Nickel sets. The guides will also be updated today. Happy collecting, Boomer and the gang at ParkPennies.com.

01/05/12 Well known elongated coin collector, Jamie B., contacted ParkPennies.com 1/4/12 to share news of the eminent closing of the Main Street Penny Arcade at Disneyland. Indeed, today Lisa D. reported the arcade was closed and some machines moved. When we visited the park around noon today, we too found the arcade locked up for extensive remodeling as was the entire "400 Block" of Main Street. Only four of the many penny presses previously kept at the Penny Arcade were located; The Seasonal Nickel machine, and the three penny presses that offer the lands set of pressed pennies were placed at the exit to the Main Street Opera House (Lincoln Exhibit) for a total of five machines currently at that location. (The penny press that offered the 2011 pressed penny was taken off-stage possibly for placement of a 2012 pressed penny?) Please refer to the current Disneyland Penny Press Machine Locations page for these changes and a listing of the Penny Arcade machines that are still unaccounted for.

12/20/11 The Seasonal Pressed Nickel Sets have arrived! We've already updated the Disneyland Penny Press Locations Guide (map) with the new machine locations. And the Disneyland and Disney California Adventure guides have also been updated with pictures, guide numbers and locations. Happy collecting!

12/19/11 Boomer has been monitoring communications, ParkPennies operatives are surveilling possible seasonal nickel press locations... Stay tuned.

12/17/11 Nothing new to report as of Saturday December 17, 2011. Stay tuned. If you are on Facebook, you can "Friend" ParkPennies for automatic updates via Facebook, it's free! :-) We hope to post news of the anticipated, traditional, Disneyland Seasonal Nickels soon.

12/13/11 Our thanks to the many readers who have shared their penny machine searches and reports here, especially over the past month or so. As of today, the anticipated Seasonal nickel machine(s) have not yet been reported. There is extensive construction taking place in Disneyland at the Penny Arcade as well as Disney California Adventure that may have delayed arrival of the machines. Surely the construction will affect the placement of the machines. As always, here is the link to share your reports of new Disneyland penny press machines. We hope to have news soon.

11/22/11 The Seasonal Pressed Nickel Set has not arrived at the park... yet. We are optimistic that there will be six coins, three at Disneyland and three at Disney California Adventure again this year. We are receiving reports daily and will post updates here as they arrive. If you spot them at the park first, please email Boomer at ParkPennies.com.

11/8/11 We've added a link to the good folks at The International Arcade Museum. Lots of pictures of antique to modern coin operated machines, arcade, video games, pin ball machines, forums... do check it out if you're into that sort of thing?! Happy pressed penny smile
11/8/11 Currently there are over 250 auctions of Disney elongated coins by fellow collectors and visitors linked to ParkPennies. Check them out via our link to Disney elongated coin auctions or add your auctions to this list for free. Happy collecting, Boomer.

11/1/11 We have news of Mr. Bob Johnson's retirement! On October 26, 2011, a party was held for him in honor of his 40 years as a Disneyland Cast Member and diver. Cool! :-) Of special interest to ParkPennies.com readers, his retirement party offerings included a three die penny press. All three pressed pennies were different and all featured a SCUBA diver reverse. This is the first time a retiring Cast Member has had three different coins pressed in his honor.
Although Mr. Johnson's retirement party was not open to the public and was held very early Wednesday morning, it didn't miss our attention. Well, maybe we did have a bit of help from some very kind ParkPennies.com readers. :-) And of course, if you have pictures of the machine, the retirement party, or past articles written about Mr. Bob Johnson and his very interesting, unusual profession, please contact ParkPennies. We hope to add a page for Mr. Johnson as we have for other Disneyland Cast Members who were honored by elongated coins at their Disneyland retirement party. Here are some pictures of the coins:

10/26/11 Due to popular requests, we have changed the sort for eBay auctions that are linked to ParkPennies.com. The most recent listings are now at the top of the list. Currently there are over 200 auctions of Disney elongated coins by fellow collectors and visitors linked to ParkPennies. Check them out via our link to Disney elongated coin auctions or add your auctions to this list for free.

10/20/11 We have added the NEW Tokyo Disneyland Cast Member Exclusive "pressed pennies" to our guide. This is the first time Tokyo Disneyland Resort has offered a Cast Member only, "back stage" coin. Also, we added six more "a" variations of coins. Just as the DCA Tron dimes were changed by a widening of wire or line borders around the coins, so have the Tron pressed pennies and Fantasy Faire pressed pennies at Disneyland. The six coins have been added to the Disneyland Guides as "a" variations, to acknowledge the small change to an existing pressed penny die.

10/16/11 Well known collectors, Nancy W., John W., Don B., and Chuck N. all reported the New NBC pressed quarter machine to ParkPennies while visiting at the park today. They earned credit for this find as our 10/15 news page, due to a bumble by Boomer, wasn't uploaded until after the park open today.

10/15/11 THE 2011 NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS QUARTERS are onstage! Also, the Tron dime press has returned to DCA, with a very slight change. And... Hong Kong Disneyland has three new coins that will be listed soon, thanks to Mike P's and Hui M's help. For locations and guide numbers of the new Disneyland coins, please see the Disneyland Penny Press Locations Guide. Happy Collecting and thank you for your visits and links to ParkPennies.com.

09/17/11 The Tokyo Disneyland Pressed Penny Books & Calendar guide has been updated along with the Duffy The Disney Bear souvenir guide.

09/15/11 Fellow collector Jamie B. reported that five machines inside DCA are currently / still off-stage. "The entire front of the park is closed due to construction. This includes the shops, Greeting from California and Engine-Ear Toys." (4 machines) " The fifth machine missing was the TRON dime press at Gone Hollywood Gifts . ". ParkPennies.com had hoped that these machines would be relocated during construction. However, Jamie's recent search of the park did not uncover the missing machines. Given that these machine may be unavailable for the duration of the construction and could even return with different dies, we have added a gray background to their listings in our iPhone, smartphone, and printer :-) friendly Disneyland Resort penny machine locations pages. The new gray background will also be used for future penny press machines that have been or are expected to be off stage for an extended period of time. Newly placed machines will continue to feature the red background. Our thanks to Jamie and others for sharing reports with fellow ParkPennies.com readers.

09/13/11 The Tokyo Disneyland Pressed Penny Guides now include all coins from the first 1996 to the latest September 2011 issues. The Tokyo Disneyland Coins of the Month Guide has also been updated to include coins issued in September, 2011.

09/07/11 The Disneyland Lands set guide has been updated. It is still a frightful mess, but, better. :-)

09/01/11 NEW Splash Mountain pressed penny! All three coins in this set also feature a new reverse. Pictures and details in the Disneyland Park Pressed Penny Guide, Section DL0500+.

08/26/11 This machine has been offstage for a long time with many rumors as to its fate... As of late Wednesday night (we believe) the Paradise Pier Hotel has returned with three new pressed pennies! The machine features two new images with the third coin offering a new version of the previous Paradise Hotel logo. All three coins have "Disney's Paradise Hotel" stampbacks. The machine is pressing very flat, pressed pennies with high quality engraving and nicely done stampbacks... why not press a set? No admission required to this hotel location! Images and details to follow in our Disneyland Resort Hotels and DownTown Disney pressed penny guide.

08/10/11 Three new pressed pennies have arrived at the Main Street Penny Arcade today! Our thanks to the many people that check the park and email us with new discoveries. (Even if they forget to tell us their name!) See these new, nicely engraved pressed pennies in the Disneyland Park pressed penny guide. If you think you've spotted a new machine, please email us with a picture or description. Happy collecting, from the folks at ParkPennies.com.

06/29/11 Our thanks to Ricky K. for being the first collector to report the new Tropicana Inn 2011 dated ec to ParkPennies.com! This coin is now listed in our DW Disneyland Tributes pressed penny guide as DW0036.

06/29/11 We have received several emails from collectors asking if the Paradise Pier Hotel penny press has return, possibly with a DCA 10th Anniversary reverse. This rumor may have started by an erroneous posting at another web site a couple of weeks ago. As of today, the Paradise Pier penny press has not returned. We hope to have an update soon.

06/23/11 The DCA Cars dime press machine is back! The good news is that the Lighting McQueen penny die, now features a Cars Logo! The addition of this logo seems to have balanced the metal draw some and improved the roll quality. Also this change retired the CA0089 guide listing and added CA0113 to the guides. As many collectors will remember, the Cars coin press, unlike most machines at DCA, has machine / computer cut dies that take a good amount of metal to fill their engraved devices, metal that dimes can not offer. Luckily, most of the other Disney California Adventure 10th Anniversary dimes benefit from dies hand engraved by Eurolink's Jimmy Vargas and press nicely, even on dimes. In this collector's opinion, the Arcade Shop has made an extra effort to do the best that could be expected with this challenging set of pressed dimes.

06/08/11 Disney California Adventure's Brother Bear pressed quarter set now has 10th Anniversary stampbacks and a new price, $1.25 each including the quarter to be pressed. (Same as most quarters at Walt Disney World.)

06/08/11 Chuck N. reported today that the ESPN pressed pennies at Downtown Disney, which were raised to $1.00 plus the cent to be pressed about a year ago, have returned to the original price of only 50 cents plus the penny to be pressed. If you have delayed pressing these coins due to price, now may be a good time to get while the gettin' is good. As many readers have commented, some pressed penny machine have increased from 50 cents to $.75 or $1.00 this last year .

06/02/11 New penny at the Lincoln exit on Main Street USA. The penny has very small, fine 3D engraving detail of Pluto, Goofy, Donald, Minnie and Mickey on the number 2011. See the coin, Disneyland pressed penny guide number DL0505.

05/27/11 New Frontierland Set!!!! Nice images and great stampbacks! Do check them out in our Disneyland Pressed Penny Guide. (#'s DL0502-504)

05/26/11 The Treasures Gift Shop, Paradise Pier, Disney California Adventure pressed penny machine set now features Disney California Adventure 10th Anniversary stampbacks! This set is the last pressed penny machine in DCA and the only penny set to date that features the 10th Anniversary reverses. (Same reverse as the 10th Anniversary pressed dimes.) Although many collectors thought that this machine might become yet another dime press, Disneyland Resort decision makers have continued the penny press tradition. DCA guests still have the choice to watch a nostalgic Disneyland penny souvenir being made before their eyes, now with a commemorative 10th Anniversary reverse, and still for only 51 cents!

05/20/11 New Tron machine at the Penny Arcade! Our thanks to Josh F. for being the first to report this new machine and even included a marquee picture via his Android Friday around 5:30pm. While at the park, Boomer did manage to jam the machine. Luckily, Cast Member Glen was in the Arcade and had the machine working again within a couple of minutes. The machine is pressing copper cents right on perfect in this collector's opinion. So, do stop in and press some for your collection or for a friend's collection.
Both The Disneyland Pressed Penny Guide and our single page penny press location guide (a good link to bookmark) have the new Tron pressed pennies added. Happy collecting, from Boomer and the folks at ParkPennies.com.

05/16/11 Busy day today! New Lands Set in Disneyland and what may be the last DCA 10th Anniversary pressed dime set, #11!

05/12/11 As readers may know, Disney VoluntEARS has placed a special penny press back stage for Cast Members to help Red Cross fund relief efforts via the sale of Japan Earthquake & Pacific Tsunami Relief Fund pressed pennies. Rumors suggest that this machine might be made available for contributions by Disneyland guests or possibly the public. However, details are not certain yet. Please visit this page for future updates about the machine. And please contact us to share additional information / updates about this or any other pressed penny news.

05/11/11 Fellow ParkPennies.com visitors currently have around 200 auctions of Disney pressed pennies linked to ParkPenneis.com just from eBay and more are linked from ExonumiaAuctions.com. Some coins from Hong Kong Disneyland, Tokyo Disneyland... and several harder to find elongated coins from Disneyland USA. Do check them out, never know when you'll spot that coin or deal you've been looking for. If you have coins for sale, here is how you can link your auctions of Disney elongated coins for free.
longtime readers know that ParkPennies.com and our sister site, PressedPennies.com, are web sites by hobbyists and for hobbyists with no charges for services, nothing for sale, and no commercial offerings. (Talk about a low budget! :-) But, we do have a sorta free* pressed penny! And we welcome your mention of our humble web site to your friends. :-) Happy collecting, Boomer.

05/10/11 We have added the DL0495 Buzz Lightyear pressed penny to the Disneyland guide, the DL0437 elongated coin with an updated Type III reverse. This latest reverse change brings matching stampbacks to all three coins currently in this set. To hopefully avoid a total collector meltdown, we have a full page detailing the many Astro Blasters Toy Story penny press changes.

05/09/11 Our thanks to Nancy W. for first reporting a Tron machine was in the works to ParkPennies back on 4/22/11! It is onstage today as The DCA 10th Anniversary pressed dime set #10! This pressed coin set was originally located at the Gone Hollywood Gift Shop, Hollywood, Disney California Adventure. All guides and our single page penny press machine map have already been updated. Happy collecting!

05/04/11 The DCA 10th Anniversary pressed dime set #9 has arrived. This pressed coin set was originally located at the Hollywood Tower Hotel Gift Shop, Hollywood, Disney California Adventure. All guides and our single page penny press machine map already have been updated. Happy collecting!

05/03/11 We have updated the guides with the newest Cast Member elongated coin issues, the Japan Earthquake & Pacific Tsunami Relief Fund pressed pennies! I must say, that reverse is a real stretch for a penny! :-) But, as you can see in this picture, Disney did it. Currently, this set of coins is listed only in the Cast Member guide, as these coins are NOT currently accessible by regular Disneyland guests. However, as were the Haiti pressed nickels, these coins *might be* available to non-Cast Members in the future. If so, they may also earn listing in a Disneyland Resort guide other than the Disneyland Cast Member elongated coin guide.

05/02/11 No scans yet, so this report currently has rumor status. However, two trusted sources, Lou S. and Nancy W. have both heard tell of a Cast Member only issue, Japan Tsunami Relief set of Disneyland coins. Like the Haiti pressed nickel set some months ago, ParkPennies.com believes these coins may be pressed by the same machine, probably with a Japan specific reverse and maybe on cents. If correct, these coins would currently be backstage and not be accessible by Disneyland guests at this time. Hopefully, the machine may be moved to a public location in the future as was the Haiti nickel press. Stay tuned for updates.

05/01/11 Kuniaki reports today from Tokyo Japan that the May 2011 coins of the month have arrived. For more information, please visit our Tokyo Disneyland pressed penny news page or Kuniaki's excellent, newly updated English Language TDR Medals web site.

04/28/11 The DCA 10th Anniversary pressed dime set #8 has arrived. This pressed coin set was originally located at the Fly N Buy Gift Shop, Condor Flats, Disney California Adventure. All guides and our single page penny press machine map already have been updated. Happy collecting!

04/22/11 LOTS of updates, new pressed coins at both Disneyland and at Disney California Adventure recently! Our thanks for recent reports by Ronald W. , Kristina, Nancy W., and more than one unknown anony-mouse contributor. All guides are updated, but, for an overview of all the new elongated coins, here is a link to our Disneyland pressed penny machine maps or the single page penny press map in PDF format. Visit the Disneyland pressed penny guides for pictures of the new princess set, and the Disney California Adventure pressed penny guide for pictures of the latest DCA 10th Anniversary pressed dimes. Nancy W. reported today that there is a rumor of a planned Tron set for DCA! Looks like a busy month for Disney pressed penny collectors! Stay tuned for updates and happy collecting.

04/15/11 Yep! Set #6 of DCA 10th Anniversary dimes were placed onstage today at the Greetings From California Gift Shop! Several collectors had been circling the machine's vacant space waiting for its return.

04/15/11 The Disneyland Pressed Penny Machine Location and Checklist page (PDF) and (Excel) and (HTML) have been updated and upgraded. One page with all machines in The Disneyland Resort area including "Disney Themed" machines near the park. This easy to print list has brief descriptions, locations, and guide numbers. Newer machines are highlighted e.g. the latest DCA dime locations. And you can download it for free before you go to the park.... FREE! :-) Please don't be shy about sharing a link to ParkPennies.com and (y)our penny press machine locations and checklists. Enjoy and Happy collecting.

04/12/11 Deep in the dank and dusty basement of a Cayucos California antique shop, warmed only by the auras of keepsakes once held by collectors long passed, the eerie silence is broken by the chime of an arriving text message. An anony-mouse collector's cryptic comment claims: "NEW SET @ penny arcade!". Boomer carefully closes the cabinet doors preserving a precious cache of Disneyana collectibles in the seldom searched corner of the barely explored cellar and makes a beeline for DISNEYLAND!
Thanks to lite traffic, high traction tires, and paddle shifters, Boomer arrived at the park before closing in time to press, scan, and catalog this new set of lands pressed pennies for ParkPennies.com fellow collectors. Enjoy and happy collecting!

04/07/11 Set FIVE Disney California Adventure 10th Anniversary pressed dimes is now on stage! Donald, Pluto and Daisy pressed dimes are waiting at the Greetings From California Gift Shop! And... ParkPennies.com machine location guides include all these new machines!

04/06/11 Several new auctions have been linked to ParkPennies.com. If you'd like to view them, click the "Visitor Auctions" icon at the top of this page. You can click to both eBay and exonumiaauctions.com from there. Happy collecting, Boomer

04/05/11 There are now four sets of Disney California Adventure 10th Anniversary pressed dimes waiting to be pressed at the park! Also... a 5th machine has been reported missing by many ParkPennies.com readers. Could be it will return with #5 set later this week at Greetings From California? Well, at least that's what we're hoping... Do bookmark this page for updates. Happy collecting, Boomer.

04/01/11 Don B. via Nancy W. , two very active fellow members of TEC, reported a new 10th Anniversary dime machine at DCA! Our thanks to Don and Nancy. Scans should be up shortly at our DCA 10th Anniversary pressed dimes set page. This is set #4... maybe we'll see yet another set next week?

03/28/11 Our penny press location pages have been updated to include the latest DCA dime sets. There is a one page and a four page version currently and they are a great help in locating the machines / pressed pennies you want while you're at the park. I must admit that ParkPennies.com machine location guides are not nearly as pretty as the maps available at City Hall. But, we are a bit smaller operation here and can update the maps much faster. :-)
Do you collect Hong Kong Disneyland pressed pennies...or would you like to see them? We've just added the first 2011 entries to our The Hong Kong Disneyland pressed penny guides or view all HKDL "magical coins" since the park opened in 2005.

03/27/11
C. Neal and Cathy reported to ParkPennies.com today that the CA0028-30 (Oldest machine) at the Greetings From California Gift Shop is missing. Speculation is that this machine may return with stampbacks or maybe the next set of 10th Anniversary pressed dimes? Our thanks to Cathy and C. Neal for sharing their reports.

03/24/11 Disney California Adventure 10th Anniversary dime set number 3 was just placed onstage!

03/21/11 Our thanks to Ricky who just emailed / texted us to report that the penny machine was missing from the Off The Page Gift Shop in DCA. Could be a third set of 10th Anniversary Dimes are on the way?

03/18/11 Disney California Adventure 10th Anniversary dime set number 2 was just placed onstage!

03/07/11 NEW stampbacks for Disney's California Adventure 10th Anniversary! See this new dime variation set and the new reverse in the DCA 10th Anniversary Pressed Dimes Guide.

02/17/11 The Engine-Ears Toys Shop pressed penny set has returned... with stampbacks! Check them out in the DCA pressed penny guide #CA0071-73.

02/11/11 Don B. Just shared breaking news of an upcoming Disney Soda Fountain & Studio Store penny book... with a limited edition elongated cent in the cover! Release of this Penny Collector Penny Book is currently anticipated in about 90 days, pricing and other details to follow. However, to hold us over until the real thing is available, Don has offered these images:

Artist rendering of the Upcoming

other elongated coins from the Disney Soda Fountain, Hollywood. Also, the complete pressed penny book will

01/25/11 We mentioned on 12/21/10 that a 2010 FOS Cast Member elongated token was pressed for the Facilities Operations & Services Christmas party held on 12/16/2010 at DCA. This elongated token and elongated token key ring have been listed in the Cast Member elongated coin guide as CM0035. We're still short some information / background about this coin, so please don't be shy about sharing anything you have to add by contacting us. :-)

01/16/11 Sunday brought a report that the DCA seasonal nickel machine had also been taken off stage, possibly over night. On Monday the 16th, we received a confirmation that the machine was off stage. Although we are not positive, it *appears* that the DCA machine has been retired for the season. We will post here if the machine returns. Guides will be updated soon.

01/13/11 Boomer was at the park today. I know, not a surprise. But, while there, Disney elongated coin collector, Lou contacted him to say that the Disneyland Seasonal nickel machine had been taken off stage. Then when Boomer returned to his desk, he found fellow Disney elongated coin collector, Don, was the first to email ParkPennies with the added news that the Nightmare Before Christmas pressed quarter machine was also taken off stage today! (The DCA nickel press is still onstage.) Great reports! Our thanks to Don, Lou, and all the other ParkPennies.com visitors that have contacted us with updates.
Probably most regular readers of this news page, and fans of ParkPennies on FaceBook, had a chance to press or have these coins pressed. However, if you missed them... Now would probably be a good time to find a fellow collector that still has some for trade or auction.
Hmmm... You know, with great visitor reports like these, Boomer could have stayed home today... But with 78 degree weather, new nickel presses... You know he couldn't. :-) Happy collecting and we hope to see you at the park.

01/09/11 Lots of great reports lately. Alieli, Ricky, Jeffy, Ron, Jeanne, and Phillip just to name a few readers that have been watching the Seasonal nickel machines at the park and sending emails / phone text updates to share with fellow collectors. Needless to say, when Alieli first reported the Seasonal nickel presses had been taken off stage, we knew it was either really good news or really bad. So, my daughter and I headed for the park and kept an eye open with the hope that the machines would return with a few more coins added... I know it's a hard job, but someone has to do it. :-) Well, we had a great time. But, the machines did not return, at least not until long after DCA closed that night. Then Ricky was the first to report that the machines had returned, with three new coins, for a total of six Seasonal nickels! We'll have scans and guide updates soon. We usually post to Face Book after we have pictures and have updated the Disney California Adventure and Disneyland Park pressed penny guides. (Best to bookmark this page for all the news as soon as it's posted.) Happy collecting! Boomer.
Update: We've added these coins to the guide.
Please don't be shy about telling Disneyland Resort and the Arcade Cast Members how much you appreciate their efforts to bring these coins out each year. I can tell it wasn't easy this year. But, they made it happen and "plused up" the set with three DCA coins... All with nice 3-D engraving, dot borders, dated, stampbacks, excellent artwork, and... Well, if you have a chance, do let them know how much you appreciate the Seasonal Nickel set. :-)

01/06/11 Not much news lately, thought you might like to see the Disneyland Seasonal Nickels? One of my favorite collections, as you may have guessed. Below are all the pressed nickels from 1995 through 2010. If you'd like, you can see larger images of individual coins by clicking on them, or see larger images of them all by visiting the ParkPennies.com Seasonal elongated coin guide. Happy collecting, Boomer.
