Pressed Penny Machine History
The Disneyland Resort, Paris pressed penny machine collection guide includes some unexpected elongated coins. DLRP is currently the only Disney resort outside of the United States that has ever offered actual pressed penny coins rather than planchet (slug) based medals as are currently listed for Tokyo Disneyland "pressed penny" guide and Hong Kong Disneyland "pressed penny" guide. Even more unusual was that coins pressed at Disney's Sequoia Lodge Hotel in France were United States cents. Yes, US pennies pressed in France! The only other known Disneyland Resort Paris elongated coin machine location is the Rainforest Cafe in the Disney Village. At the time of this writing, the French RFC still has two very nice four-play "penny" press hand-crank machines that press EURO five-cent coins!
As of this update in 2011, we have still recorded only the four early penny press machines as having been on Disneyland Resort, Paris, property. They were the two three-play machines that were at the Sequoia Lodge and the two four-play five-cent Euro hand-cranks still located at the Rainforest Cafe. We still have no record or report of any machines ever being inside the gates of the Euro Disneyland park. Of the four machines that have been on-property, the two penny press machines at the Sequoia Lodge were removed after a relatively short stay. (Possibly moved to another location in France, we do not know for sure.) That leaves DLRP with just the two machines at the Rainforest Cafe which is located in Disney Village, a shopping area similar to the Downtown Disney centers in the United States. This pressed penny guide for The Disneyland Resort Paris features all known Disneyland Resort Paris elongated coins, pressed pennies or medal souvenirs issued and located on Disneyland Resort Paris owned or controlled properties. As of this date, no coins have been reported inside any gate at Disneyland Resort Paris. However, at one time, there were two penny press machines at the Sequoia Lodge Hotel offering six pressed pennies. (The machines pressed United States of America cents.) Also, as of this writing, there are two elongated coin machines at the Rainforest Cafe Restaurant. Each coin press offers four pressed five cent Euro coin designs. All these coins are listed in this guide.
Please excuse (embrace, enjoy, tolerate) our informality. In a futile attempt to keep some degree of sanity in our guide prefix system, these elongated coins have the prefix of DLRP. Please keep in mind that all these coins are from the "Resort Area", outside the gates of the Disneyland Resort Paris, but, on DLRP property. If in the future, elongated coins are issued from inside a gate, a separate prefix will used as we do for Disneyland, Anaheim with "DR" for Disneyland Resort, "DL" for Disneyland and "CA" for California Adventure.
