Pressed Penny competition, collectors win! As you can see, by the medals pictured here, Tokyo Disneyland Resort takes a good deal of pride in their medals. The engraving, designs and borders are, in the opinions of many collectors, among the best engraving seen in vended pressed souvenirs today. Makes one wonder if the elongated souvenir design changes that took place at Disneyland, Anaheim in May of 2005 and at the Tokyo Disneyland Resort in July of 2005 may have been the result of a little competition?

In April of 2005, Tokyo Disneyland introduced their Coin of the Month series. In May of 2005 The Original Disneyland Resort, USA introduced The 50th Anniversary Magical Milestones pressed penny collection of 51 coins. Both among the most successful collector series of elongated coins ever issued at any Disney park. Later, when elongated coin quality caused some collectors in the United States to take a greater interest in Tokyo Disneyland medals, Disneyland USA stepped up their game. Matter of fact, as of 2010, Disneyland USA guests have noticed penny machines that have been upgraded to nickels and most all now have excellent elongated coin backstamps, an exclusive of Disneyland Resort Anaheim. During the same time, Tokyo Disneyland stepped up their engraving quality and moved the number of coins issued past 200 a year, including three different coin of the month series, many dated event coins and a set of 56... 25th Anniversary pressed pennies in 2008! Like he said "The point is, ladies and gentleman, that competition, for lack of a better word, is good. Competition, is right, competition works."? :-)
