Pressed penny collecting really started to take off in the early 2000's. This is page holds images of Tokyo Disneyland Park medals issued in 2004. At this time in the United States, a few people began selling Tokyo Disneyland medals or "pressed Pennies" on eBay. So, many of these little treasures are in the hands of collectors that might not have started collecting these coins if not for the ease of on-line ordering from Japan.

However, a few of these issues were not on-stage long enough for them to be pressed for eBay buyers. Some are variations that have been hard to find, especially now that most if not all of them have been taken off-stage. But, in general, coins of this era are much easier to find than pre-2004 Tokyo Disneyland medals.

Editor's note: We are often reminded that the preferred numismatic term for these Tokyo Disneyland souvenirs is "Medals" or "Medallions". However, many avid collectors are known to use the words pressed pennies, as well as elongated coins, pressed nickels, flattened pennies, crushed pennies, squashed pennies, rolled pennies mashed pennies, smashed pennies, stamped pennies, squished pennies, smushed pennies, stretched pennies, memory pennies keepsake pennies or pressed coins when describing these fun "pressed penny" souvenirs.

This is one of the coins that has a few nick names. Often sought by collectors of Disneyana oddities, this "pressed penny" souvenir is sometimes called "Freeway Mickey". Award Card. This award card could be earned by a perfect shooting score of "10" if not a lucky instant winner. Once won, this card entitled the holder to a free award coin. COOL!
