As noted in this guide, a few undated coins were reissued at Tokyo Disneyland in 2003. The same dies were used, however, the machines vended switched planchets with previous "nickel" coins pressed on copper and copper coins pressed on "nickel". It appears to us that these dies were used as temporaries between expired dies and the arrival of the next planned dies. Some of these coins were on-stage for a short time and can prove to be hard to find. Unless of course, they are reissued again in the future.

Editor's note: We are often reminded that the preferred numismatic term for these Tokyo Disneyland souvenirs is "Medals". However, many avid collectors are known to use the words pressed pennies, as well as elongated coins, nickels, flattened, crushed, squashed, rolled, mashed, smashed, stamped, squished, smushed, stretched, memory, keepsake or pressed coins when describing these fun "pressed penny" souvenirs.

(Horizontal souvenir "pressed penny" medal image) TOKYO DISNEYLAND® Mickey Mouse in top hat, head and neck, facing right, ©DISNEY . The first coin was pressed on this die,the the 1996 issued TDLVT01_T2 copper souvenir. When this die, was brought out of retirement and placed on-stage for about two weeks in 2003, this now very scarce nickel souvenir was available. The two souvenirs, the copper and nickel are equally scarce and can be identified only by their copper vs. nickel finishes.
All three of these coins, the TDLVT01 and TDLVT01_T2 / TDL0301, are very similar in design and appearance. To view a detailed comparison of them, click here
Update 2006: The once rare TDL0301 nickel has been repeatedly "reissued" at TDL much to the horror of TDL collectors. "Reissuing" now appears to be a common risk with non-dated TDR medals.
