The Disneyland Haunted Mansion Holiday Brings
Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas... QUARTERS!

The Disneyland Haunted Mansion Holiday Event, HMH, has welcomed Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, NBC, pressed quarters for several Halloween seasons now. These great collectibles are currently vended from the quarter press which will still be used to vend the Haunted Mansion quarters the rest of the year. The heavily themed presser is mounted inside a coffin styled case or would that be a casket? The imposing coffin serves as a seasonal NBC Haunted Mansion Holiday quarter press for about two months each year and a Haunted Mansion themed press for the balance of the year. So, there are plenty of very spooky pressed quarters with which to build one ghastly collection!


The NBC collection even with the Haunted Mansion quarters added isn't large. As you can see by the ParkPennies.com lists and descriptions below, currently, there are only about two or three dozen elongated quarters in a complete "NBC set". However, the number of coins seems to be growing as is the number of people collecting them. Disneyland pressed coin collectors, NBC collectors, Disneyana collectors, and on Bat Day even Disneyland Goth’s call these fun, cross-collectables their own. Matter of fact, for many members of these collecting groups, pressing a set of the special, "Haunted Quarters" has become a yearly tradition.

We hope this page will be of use to collectors in defining the coins you wish to collect, attributing the coins you already have, and in divining when and where the next set of coins might be on-stage.

The Haunted Mansion & Nightmare Before Christmas

These quarters are generally on-stage for only a short time each year. Unlike some Disneyland pressed coins, the very desirable NBC / HMH pressed coins have traditionally had a very short stay on-stage before they are gone forever¹. Usually, NBC sets are available for only two or three months during the HMH event / Halloween season; sometimes for even a shorter period of time. In 2004, the NBC set was first offered exclusively to attendees of the Haunted Mansion Holiday Event held at the Disneyland Hotel for only one day, September 30, 2004! The event coins featured plain reverses or blank back stamps. Later, the dies from the special event were placed on-stage at Disneyland Park, but, with a "Disneyland Park" back stamp. This change made two sets for that year, one of them, the Cast Member set, hard to find. Additionally the 2005 DL0329 was available for only a single day, October 24, before it was replaced by the DL0329A! Collectors were also surprised when in 2005 the back stamps changed and the coins were replaced just one week later. The replacement set offered similar art work, but, with sharper, more detailed images making a set of nine for 2005, not counting variations. So, don't delay. These fun souvenirs can be had for only $1.00 each, while they are on-stage!

In summary, I think many collectors will find that the different coins, images and back stamps offered over the past years have made this group of coins a challenging, fun collection. Some coins are harder to find, some easy, some could be confusing without a reference guide. The brief ParkPennies descriptions below as well as the complete ParkPennies Guides are here to help. Needless to say, history has been a great teacher and encourages many collectors to visit the park often and press the latest set as soon as available. Not a bad thing.
