Cast Membership
has its privileges!

All Disneyland Cast Member and Special Event pressed pennies or elongated coin souvenirs known to date are listed in this reference guide. Most all of these coins, by definition, required paid admission to a special event or Cast Member privileges at the Disneyland Resort to access the machine(s) or to obtain a coin listed here. Advanced collectors may also want to include the extremely hard to find DS Disneyland Arcade Shop coins as a key addition to the Cast Member issues listed in this guide section. There may also be references to Cast Member or Special Event elongated coins in the "Disneyland Resort Elongated Coin Test Rolls Guide ".

The CM Guide is only one section of the Complete Collection of Disneyland Resorts Elongated Coins. Additional elongated coins are listed in the respective guides linked above.

Happy collecting,

CM0001 Ron Dominguez
pressed penny

CM0001 Vertical pressed penny image. RON DOMINGUEZ, Ronald K. Dominguez portrait, DISNEYLAND ® , star border.
Coin commemorates Ron Dominguez’s retirement August 31, 1994 and was the first coin ever made to celebrate the retirement of a Cast Member. For a short time around Mr. Dominguez's retirement, Cast Members could press this coin for free backstage.
No backstamp.

The number of coins pressed can not be determined because the machine was free to Cast Members back stage and not metered. However, a quantity of zinc cents were pressed in advance for distribution at the retirement party. Reports to ParkPennies.com suggest the die was presented to Mr. Dominguez as one of his retirement gifts. A red handkerchief, signifying The Order of the Red Handkerchief was also presented to retirement attendees and is sometimes found accompanying the Cast Member pressed penny.

This machine and one "identical" to it were placed at opposite sides of the main event room at the Grand Californian Hotel on the afternoon / evening of the event. The machines were intermittently out of order, lines formed at the machines during the event. Attendees were told that elongated quarters vended from the two machines were the same. Therefore, many attendees pressed coins from only one machine location. The event organizer advised Robert Hoff of ParkPennies.com that his plans were to auction the event dies soon after the event. Coins were available at the Cast Blast Expo on 3/1/05. Only one coin was issued per each Cast Member’s coupon. A total of 7,500 coins were made to order by Eurolink all believed to be on uncirculated zinc cents. There was no penny press machine at the event. Addition 3/16/05: Some of the remaining coins were distributed after the event at the Disney Team Center.

(The CM0026, CM0027, and CM0029 share the same obverse die. Each has a different backstamp.)
Backstamp: 2008 DISNEYLAND ® RESORT, FACILLITES & OPERATIONS SERVICES, CAST APPRECIATION BAR-B-QUE. Available 5/15/08.

Reports by trusted sources to Robert Hoff, state that 300 unpressed "No Cash Value" arcade tokens were distributed to about 150 attendees with the option to press the tokens in the available machine at the 5/15/08 Cast Member appreciation Bar-B-Que.
The die, cut by Eurolink, misses the fine detail of hand engraved dies which makes identification of the small type face and copyright difficult. Die life planned over more than a single year, to be used with new backstamp each year.
This is the first formal use of a "token press" at the Disneyland Resort. The token provides a heavy, quality souvenir in a world of zinc, possibly soon to be copper-plated steel pennies, a welcome innovation in this collector's opinion. Only one coin was offered by this machine.

Editor's note: We are often reminded that the preferred numismatic term is "Elongated Coins". However, as the rebellious, risk taking, devil may care ParkPennies.com contributors that we are, temptation often gets the better of us. As a result, you may see the more casual, fun terms like: pressed pennies, flattened pennies, crushed pennies, squashed pennies, rolled pennies, mashed pennies, smashed pennies, stamped pennies, squished pennies, smushed pennies, stretched pennies, memory pennies, keepsake pennies, flat pennies, and souvenir medallions to describe these fun penny souvenirs.
