"DR" Disneyland Resort Hotels & Downtown Disney
Pressed Coin Guide
All Accessible Without Paying Admission!
Coin numbers DR0001 ~ DR0025
© 2005 - 2024 ParkPennies

The "DR" Disneyland Resort Pressed Coin Guide includes all and only pressed coins / tokens that were at some time officially offered "On Property" that is, on the Disneyland Resort grounds and accessible without paying an admission to a special event, the Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure.

Most coin press machine locations have been inside Disneyland Resort Hotels and the Downtown Disney Area. Although during the COVID-19 Pandemic machines in the newly extended part of Downtown Disney that included parts of Disney California Adventure's Buena Vista Street and Hollywood Land areas, the coins in those areas retained their initial guide numbers.

The elongated coins in this guide are similar to the elongated coins offered inside the gates of the Disneyland Park or Disney's California Adventure and just as much fun! However, unlike most other coins at the Disneyland Resort, these fun and inexpensive souvenirs can be pressed without paying admission. Matter of fact, they can be pressed without even paying for parking if you know where to park or use a ride share to drop you off. Yes, collecting pressed pennies, even Disney pressed pennies, can be a fun and inexpensive family hobby!

A quick view of the graphical map of the complete Worldwide Disneyland Resorts Pressed Penny Collection illustrates how this "DR" collection relates to the complete Disneyland Resort elongated coin collection, yet is a collection all on its own. When viewing the "DR" guide pages, many of us will see fun, significant, unique, and interesting coins that represent a complete "DR" pressed penny collection, others will see the start of a complete Disneyland Resort collection... :-)

Note: Earlier pressed penny examples e.g. elongated coins that were placed on-stage during Disneyland's first 50 years, 1955-2005, are sometimes called "Vintage Pressed Pennies". Pressed coins, which were placed on-stage after Disneyland's 50th Anniversary in 2004, are sometimes called "post 50th".

Happy Collecting,
Boomer at ParkPennies

DR0010 RETIRED DISNEYLAND HOTEL and Monorail pressed penny image.
DR0010 Retired DISNEYLAND HOTEL and Monorail pressed penny image. DISNEYLAND HOTEL and Monorail, © , dot border. Believed to have been originally placed inside the Disneyland park around 1995 as the DL0017. Probably onstage inside the gates of Disneyland from around 1995 to late 1996 early 1997, then moved outside the gates of Disneyland to the Disneyland Hotel area where it was reported onstage in October of 1997 as the DR0010 and finally retired to make way for the DR0079 by March 4, 2004. This Monorail pressed penny was onstage for a long time and placed in a few different locations. The single die penny press machine that pressed this coin dated back to the early days of Disneyland penny presses. (This Disneyland pressed coin number made with the possibly now canceled #DLP0017.0.0 obverse elongated coin die in its original "0" state / variation, paired with a blank "0" reverse coin die.) Over the years, it was located inside the Disneyland Park, a few different locations outside the Disneyland Park in the Disneyland Hotel complex e.g. the Tinker Bell Toy Shop (Correction pending to Tinker Bell’s Treasures), The Fantasia Gift Shop, the breezeway near the old hotel monorail stop, and in the Neon Cactus Sports Bar. So this vagabond pressed penny is listed as both a Disneyland Park DL0017 coin and a Disneyland Resort DR0010. Larger pressed penny image in frame or window # 1   2   3

DR0011 Retired VACATIONLAND, DISNEY’S CAMPGROUND, ANAHEIM, CA. pressed penny image. VACATIONLAND, DISNEY’S CAMPGROUND, ANAHEIM, CA., "campground" is in an outlined typeface. This location was open from about 1970-1997. Best estimates are that the machine was onstage April 1996 and offstage in 1998. (Previous estimates of onstage dates were narrowed thanks to notes taken by the Wooten family.) This single die machine was on-stage in one of the two Arcades at Disney’s Vacationland, an RV park/camping area at 1343 S. West St. (Later named Disneyland Drive), Anaheim, CA during the 1990s. (This Disneyland pressed coin number made with the possibly now canceled #DRP0010.0.0 obverse elongated coin die in its original "0" state / variation, paired with a blank "0" reverse coin die.) This location is now occupied by the Pinocchio Parking Lot and Mickey & Friends Parking structure. Larger pressed penny image in frame or window # 1   2   3

(This Disneyland pressed coin number made with the possibly now canceled #DRP0011.0.0 obverse elongated coin die in its original "0" state / variation, paired with a blank "0" reverse coin die.) Although the location credits the Team Mickey Shop, the machine was also later located for a time in an indoor archway separating Tinker Bell’s Treasures and the NAMCO game arcade, where this four-play or four design machine, which uses a single ring die for all four designs, was located for at least part of its life onstage. DR0016 Retired Baseball Mickey pressed penny image. Rumored to have been placed onstage in April of 1996. Retired by March 26, 2004 when replaced by the DR0080.
At first this early coin was not attributed to Disneyland as the machine was off the beaten path and the coin artwork wasn't Disneyland specific. (A deficiency that would be revisited a half dozen years later.) Some people still think this is a Walt Disney World coin at first sight. Indeed, there are some WDW pressed pennies that look much like it. (This Disneyland pressed coin number made with the possibly now canceled #DRP0012.0.0 obverse elongated coin die in its original "0" state / variation, paired with a blank "0" reverse coin die.) Replaced the DL0015 as the DL0019 inside the park circa 1995 then in May of 1995 moved outside the park as the DR0019 and retired in November of 1998. (The prefix DL = Pressed Coin Inside the gates of The Disneyland Park, DR= Pressed coin outside park gates, but, on property in the Disneyland Resort, Anaheim. Purely a coincidence that the DL and then DR numbers were the same, 0019. ) Single die machine. Editor's note: We are often reminded that the preferred numismatic term is "Elongated Coins". However, as the rebellious, risk taking, devil may care ParkPennies.com contributors that we are, temptation often gets the better of us. As a result, you may see the more casual, terms like: stamped coins, pressed coins, pressed nickels, pressed dimes, pressed quarters, smashed pennies, flattened pennies, crushed pennies, squashed pennies, rolled pennies, mashed pennies, stamped pennies, smushed pennies, stretched pennies, memory pennies, keepsake pennies, flattened pennies, and souvenir coin medallions to describe these fun pressed coin souvenirs. :-) Here are some pages about the often asked questions of How many pressed coins are at Disney? and How much do pressed coins cost? Just for fun, here is a page with a bit of a different take on Pressed Coins Facts and Fiction with tips on how different coins press, cool pressed coin jewelry, early penny presses...
