Disney's California Adventure pressed quarter. Sorry not free any more. :-(

First The Quarter Press Machine, then the park opening...

The "CA" Disney California Adventure Pressed Coin Guide includes all and only pressed coins / tokens that were at some time officially offered regular admission guests inside the gates of Disney('s) California Adventure plus the three pressed quarters issued by DCA preview centers anticipation of the opening of Disney's California Adventure.

In 1999, the Disney California Adventure Preview Center greeted thousands of Disneyland Fans. The center, located in what had been the parking lot just in front of the Disneyland Park turn styles, was often crowed with anxious visitors eager to sneak a peek at the plans for the future Disney theme park. Once construction of the new park began, guests could even stand atop a platform overlooking the construction. But, visitors that looked closely inside the preview tent, could find a new quarter press machine offering three different pressed quarter designs. At first, there wasn't even a charge for its use! The elongated coins offered were the CA0001, CA0002, and CA0003, the first Disney's California Adventure pressed coins... ever! Of course, three coins, even elongated quarters, made for a small ParkPennies guide. :-) But, the guide grew quickly. Today, all known pressed pennies and elongated coins ever issued "on-stage", inside the gates of Disney's California Adventure or issued in anticipation of the opening of Disney's California Adventure from 1999 on are listed here in the CA Elongated Coin Guide. The California Adventure guide collection offers "Vintage", classic-look coins which were issued through the 50th Anniversary of the Disneyland Resort, Post 50th coins, which often had a border-less, plainer appearance and the high quality elongated coins placed onstage just after the newly re-imagineared Disney California Adventure opening. From this complete DCA collection, stand alone sub-collections can be broken out like the Disney California Adventure 10th Anniversary Pressed Dime Set and starting in 2010, The Holiday Pressed Nickel Set.

For additional pressed penny guides containing DCA coins not vended "on-stage", please refer to the Disneyland Prototype Elongated Coin Guide, The Disneyland Cast Member and Special Events Guide, and for canceled coins, The Disneyland Resort Canceled Coins. Although DCA elongated coins can be collected as a stand alone set, they are also an important part of the Disneyland Resort, USA collection and Disneyland world-wide pressed penny collections.

The Complete Disneyland Resorts Guide to Pressed Pennies and Elongated Coins provides an easy visual of how the Disney's California Adventure elongated coin collection relates to the complete Disneyland Elongated Coin Collection. Disneyland Resort coins available outside the gates of DCA are listed in the other respective guides linked above.

I think collecting these little treasures is a fun, casual hobby. But, it's also a very serious pursuit by many collectors. So, we use the "correct" numismatic terms... sometimes. We often use "Elongated Coins", interchangeably with the more casual terms, pressed pennies and flattened pennies, crushed pennies, squashed pennies, rolled pennies, mashed pennies, smashed pennies, crushed pennies, stamped pennies, squished pennies or stretched pennies (pennys %-) to describe these fun souvenirs. We hope both serious and casual collectors will be tolerant of our indecisive form.

Editor's note: We are often reminded that the preferred numismatic term is "Elongated Coins". However, as the rebellious, risk taking, devil may care ParkPennies.com contributors that we are, temptation often gets the better of us. As a result, you may see the more casual, terms like: stamped coins, pressed coins, pressed nickels, pressed dimes, pressed quarters, smashed pennies, flattened pennies, crushed pennies, squashed pennies, rolled pennies, mashed pennies, stamped pennies, smushed pennies, stretched pennies, memory pennies, keepsake pennies, flattened pennies, and souvenir coin medallions to describe these fun pressed coin souvenirs. :-) Here are some pages about the often asked questions of How many pressed coins are at Disney? and How much do pressed coins cost? Just for fun, here is a page with a bit of a different take on Pressed Coins Facts and Fiction with tips on how different coins press, cool pressed coin jewelry, early penny presses... Happy Collecting! Boomer and the folks at ParkPennies.com :-)
